The UFO Presidents Corner
By Terry Tippett
Hey everybody!
At our next meeting, Wednesday Mar 2nd, we will do a
mailing to our vendors that
have not renewed their spaces for this fall. At the spring
swap meet we will open registration for any spaces not paid
for on the open floor plan.
Have you sent in your registration to Kevin for
the UFO club awards banquet Saturday, March
12th at the Berwick Party House? We will have
food, door prizes and awards. Kevin will handle
the reservations, Pat has set the menu with help
from everyone at the last meeting. Jay, Frank,
Terry and Morgan are in charge of the door prizes. As in the past Kevin will MC the AWARDS,
the club will have some but the rest and best are
the ones the members give to each other as a
roast or a thank you for a job well done or not.
Please help our awards program by letting Kevin
know of any special awards you would like to
give.
Autocross director Zack Miller updated us on this
years race dates and what's happening at Columbus Motor Speedway as this may be the last
year they will be open as they may sell to Obets.
Drag race director John Rankin has confirmed
that Pacemaker Raceway Park will be open this
year and is setting up a race event that will include Mid Ohio like last year.
The Spring Swap will be Saturday and Sunday,
April 2nd & 3rd with set up on Friday the 1st. We
will set up our club booth and look forward to
seeing you when you

Points & Plugs
Twas The Trip To The Drive-In Theatre
Submitted by UFO Member Chris Browning
Submitted by UFO Member Rob L Lutz
Winter time does allow me do catch up on my reading. I subscribe to a few car magazines, which
sometimes pile up in the summer as I’ve got other
priorities to deal with. When the cold weather arrives, relaxing in the recliner and reading about
cars sounds like a good idea.
With warm weather Christmas Day and a chance
to see the new Star Wars Movie, and along with
my affection of Drive In Theatres, I checked out
three Drive-In movie theatres that operate during
the winter, albeit only on weekends [though check
websites for specific holiday scheduling]: The
Holiday Auto Theatre in Hamilton OH, Ford
Drive-In at Dearborn MI [with five screens] and
the Dependable Drive-In in Coraopolis, PA directly across from Pittsburgh Intl. Airport. Since
y'all know how "fair weather" I am, I checked the
forecast and consulted the road map to see which
way to go since The Dependable has become my
favorite out of state Drive-In. I opted for a little mix
of both freeway and backroads, so got in the '05
Ford "Frankenwagon" and started northbound
on I-71 to I-480 east till it ended in Streetsboro
where it became Rt 14 then looped around Ravenna, picking up I-76 east to Rt. 11 south and
getting off at the Rt. 46 exit where I stopped for
my usual go-go juice at Columbiana while picking
up Rt.14 east again, taking that straight into Pennsylvania where it becomes PA 51.
Normally, I would then take I-376 south for 20
winding miles up and down the mountainside
[challenging any cars transmission], but decided
to take PA 51 all the way into the valley next to
the Ohio River until I reached a point to cut back
west to pick up BUSINESS-376 Loop to The Dependable's Exit. I like this particular drive-in because it has 4 screens [each with their own concession / projection stand], Screens 1 & 2 on the
"Upper Level" and screens 3 & 4 on the "Lower
Level" and to get down, you literally have a nice
decline which has an awesome roller coaster feel
to it [for those who do not have "rock-climbers"
vehicles] If your movie isn't on those two, don't
worry, the theatre's exit that funnels out all traffic
has the same decline as well! Three hours of
cruising later, I arrived early enough and got my
usual Screen 1 parking spot right in front of the
projection booth [each theatre rows are differently
spaced, and I always like to get there early and
get a place where folks are not blocked by my
"Roof Ornaments "[at the Aut-O-Rama Drive-In in
North Ridgeville, it is right smack up alongside the
Turnpike, and when talking to truckers, they still
are trying to find the Big Rig amongst all the cars!]
A couple of days ago my dad stopped by and gave
me a box of old car magazines he dug out of his
basement. The majority are Car Life issues from
the late 50’s thru the late 60’s. Some Hot Rod issues from the 60’s and 70’s are also there (some of
them may have been mine to begin with), along
with Motor Trend and Cars & Parts issues scattered in. The July 1962 issue of Hot Rod has the
headline “How-Do To-It Buick aluminum V8 in a
Comet” which immediately grabbed my attention.
The July 1956 edition of Car Life headline reads
“Detroit’s Worst Auto Lemon” which is revealed to
be the Kaiser brand. A couple of other Car Life
issues also caught my eye. My favorites are the
July 1968 issue which has the ’68 Mercury Cyclone
428 CJ and Cougar XR-7 GTE 427 on the cover
with full tests on both (they liked the Cyclone much
more than the Cougar). The February 1970 issue
has test results on the Monte Carlo 454 SS, the Torino GT (351 Cleveland) and the 340 ‘Cuda. I
owned a ’70 Torino GT years ago, so that one’s a
keeper.
I am going to try to sell most of the collection at the
Lancaster swap meet in March, but I’m going to
keep a few. If any club members would like to
determine if I have any issues with articles on their
vehicles, give me a call (614-367-0908) and I’ll
check to see if I do. You can call any evening between 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. If you make it to the
Lancaster swap meet, you’re invited to stop by and
visit!

Twas The Trip To The Drive-In Theatre
As for the movie, well, I could get into some
Tribble vs. Wooke, Enterprise vs. Millennial Falcon, Light Saber vs. Phaser, Leia vs. Uhura, Lucas vs. Roddenberry, Alliance vs Federation,
Data vs Jar-Jar, Riker vs Solo, Vader vs Borg,
etc. arguments that will continue to rage on, but
spent most of my time looking at the Pennsylvania map to navigate the way back "Home." After
a long movie, decided to haul tail and open up
the throttle on I-376 and back across PA 51.
Once I got back into Ohio, I let out a sigh as the
Pennsylvania Border left my sight: "Thank
God I didn't get pulled over, because those PA
State Troopers would have been writing up my
car all Night!" and since the roads were still
nice, shot across OH 415 and meandered my
way to I-680 to pick up 80 / 76 westbound. Still
early enough and was hungry so when I finally
got to I-71 interchange I went south to the all
night Wendy's at the Exit 204 Pilot before returning North back home. Total Miles: 317.
Time: 8 1/2 Hours. Ford Fun Factor: 15 Blue
Ovals out of 10!
