The Summer Arts and Music Festival is Northern California’s premier summer festival, celebrating music,
the arts, friendship, family and the return of summer here in beautiful Northern California. Set against a
backdrop of old growth redwoods and the meandering Eel River at Benbow Lake State Recreation Area,

Tools for Change
For several years the Mateel has donated 2.5% of
net festival proceeds to local worthy causes. This
year we’ve added two new charitable efforts. With the
Tools For Change project, new or used, donated tools
will be collected through the Mateel to be distributed
to rural villages in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Reggae Ambassador Program
Our new Reggae Ambassador program directs 10%
of its proceeds to support global charities related
to reggae culture. See the upcoming Reggae on
the River Program Guide to learn more about these
worthwhile projects.”

Come September, the Mateel will be opening up the hall and the ‘back 40’ for a heaping helping of bluegrass, country, and American roots music with the 11th Annual Humboldt Hills Hoedown. With musical
acts playing on two stages from high noon until midnight, a mechanical bull, country games and dance,
Hoedown is steadily gaining a devoted following. David Grisman, Lacy J. Dalton, Devil Makes Three,
Sam Bush, and Peter Rowan are some of great talent who have graced Hoedown stages.

Humboldt Hemp Fest
November 13-15, 2015

Attracting attendees from all over California and neighboring states, Humboldt Hemp Fest will celebrate its 25th
anniversary this November 13-15, 2015 at the Mateel Community Center. It starts with a Friday evening of comedy and
then, on Saturday, morphs into full festival mode or an all-day celebration with live music, dance, speakers, vendor/ info
booths and more. Things culminate on Sunday with the Hemp Fest Forum, which features a panel of experts discussing
current hemp and cannabis-related issues. With legalization of the recreational use of marijuana looking more likely in
our state within the next year, Californians are interested in how this will affect us. Hemp Fest brings these provocative
issues out of the shadows for a clear and honest look at both the questions and possibilities that legalization presents.
All told, Hemp Fest makes for a lively, fun and informative weekend for all!
