Who we are
Solid State Lighting Quality Scheme
Lumitex is an Australian company founded in 1996 and based
in Perth.
Where applicable, our products bear the Solid State Lighting (SSL)
Quality Scheme label. The SSL Quality Scheme was introduced by
Lighting Council Australia to address the problem of LED products
in the marketplace which failed to match the performance claims
of their suppliers. The SSL labels on our products mean that you
can buy with confidence, knowing that our claims have been
verified by an independent authority.
Initially manufacturing “low power” LED products for a global
consumer market, we applied our LED expertise to general
illumination products when “lighting class” LEDs became
commercially viable around 2009.
Today, we design, manufacture and supply a range of LED lighting
solutions for the residential, commercial and industrial markets,
using the latest manufacturing techniques. Some of our LED
designs are unique in the market and have been awarded patents
for their innovative features.
The Lumitex range of products is distributed through
hundreds of electrical wholesalers and specialist lighting
stores across Australia.

Residential applications
Open areas
Bathrooms
Flush-mounted recessed downlights add style and elegance
to any room.
Mytilux® provides excellent dispersed light in bathrooms that,
with the correct layout, will minimize shadows. Barricade2®
can also be used to great effect, especially above vanity basins.
The Circular light and even the Commercial Series lights
are alternatives worth considering.
The Mytilux® downlight is perfect for open areas and will impress
with its bright, uniform wide-beam light output.
Barricade2® provides bright, controlled-beam light which can be
gimballed to highlight furniture, artwork or architectural features.
The high-output controlled beam of Barricade2® makes it the
recommended light for ceiling heights above 3m. Being a
gimballed downlight, it is also ideal for raked ceilings.
Kitchen
Our flagship product, Barricade2®, is the ultimate recessed
downlight for installation above kitchen benchtops.
The controlled beam directs the light onto your work surface, right
where you need it, with little light spillage into adjacent areas.
MytiSafe® and Mytilux® are other suitable options for your kitchen,
bearing in mind that Mytilux® produces a wide beam light that will
illuminate not only the benchtop, but the surrounding area as well.
Recessed lights should be installed about 1.5m apart in kitchen
areas. This is closer than usual, bringing the light from controlledbeam downlights together or, in the case of the wide-beam
Mytilux®, providing more light overlap.
Strip light can also be used inside or under overhead cupboards
to provide either a decorative effect or additional task lighting.
Theatre room
In the theatre room you'll want lights that can be dimmed
to low levels when watching shows and then turned up to
bright when it is time to clean. The MytiSafe® is the ideal light
for this room, but you can also use Mytilux® for uniform lighting
or Barricade2® gimballed towards the walls for stunning feature
lighting. Coffered ceilings look spectacular with the discreet
glow of strip light.
Bedrooms
The dimmable Circular light is a perfect central light for
bedrooms. Mytilux® is a good alternative where a ceiling fan
occupies the centre of the ceiling. Barricade2® or MytiSafe®
can also be used, bearing in mind that the controlled-beam
characteristics of these lights will deliver less light on the walls
than the wide beam of a Mytilux®.

Garages, workshops and sheds
When it comes to garages, the recessed Commercial Series
lights will provide excellent wide beam light output, while the
polycarbonate fittings are perfect for internal shed lighting.
Being weatherproof, you can hose them down when they get
dusty. That ‘extra special’ shed or garage may benefit from the
flat LED panel lights - seamless and uncluttered, with low
glare characteristics.
Outside
You can use the Trim Series Floodlights to great effect in outdoor
areas. We recommend using the warm white option to match
the warm white interior lights in your home, where applicable.
Trim Series floodlights can be bolted to your shed or used to light
up your driveway. Under eaves, the recessed Mytilux®, Barricade2®
or MytiSafe® are all great options.
Other areas
The Mytilux® is outstanding in laundries, hallways and other
general use areas but the other lights can be considered as well,
depending on the particular requirements.
It is not necessary to use the same light throughout your house.
Selecting one type of recessed downlight to go throughout can
simplify the installation, but choosing the appropriate light for
each circumstance can really put the light to work for you.
Be sure to check dimmer compatibility if you intend to dim
certain rooms or areas.
Cool white or warm white?
This is always an interesting question. The 3000K colour
temperature is warm, inviting and invokes a feeling of relaxation.
This is perfect for the home environment and will bring out the
richness and warmth of timber flooring.
The 4000K colour temperature produces a clean, sharper light
that complements a modern style, pure white bathrooms and
cooler design palettes.
If you are not clear on what colour temperature would suit
you, you may be interested in doing some research into the
psychology of colour and how it affects our emotions.

Commercial applications
Lumitex LED products are designed for longevity
and therefore suited to continuous use in
commercial environments. When contemplating
the lighting of a commercial area, a variety of
product lines may be combined to create the
optimum lighting solution.
Offices
Our LED panel lights offer an elegant lighting solution for office
environments, where low glare and uniform illumination is
essential. We also supply LED tubes to retrofit existing troffers.
The Commercial Series downlights are economical and ideal
for non-dimmable installations. They were designed to be PLC
replacements but are versatile lights that can be used throughout
general commercial areas.
The Barricade2® recessed downlights are purpose-built task lights,
producing a controlled-beam output that is perfect for use above
desks and work benches. They can also be used to great effect in
high ceiling commercial foyers.
Retail stores
The Retail Series downlights provide an exceptional amount of
light, suitable for bright illumination in retail environments.
These efficient lights can be dimmed using building management
systems for even greater energy savings.
The LED Shopfitter was designed as a replacement for hot, high
wattage, power hungry HID (high intensity discharge) lights,
commonly used throughout shopping centres, pharmacies, food
courts and retail stores.
Our flagship Barricade2® gimballed downlight, with its
exceptional colour rendering, is equally at home illuminating a
dazzling display of diamonds in a jewellery store or a counter top
in a bank.
LED panels are an elegant choice for retail stores, in a selection of
colour temperatures. They can be flush-fitted to the ceiling for a
sleek, minimalist look or suspended using the optional steel wire
hanging kits to create a statement.

Hotels
For hotel environments, where glare control and warm, inviting
light is a critical requirement, we recommend the MytiSafe®
recessed downlight in the warm option. The Mytilux® recessed
downlight is perfect for general utility lighting.
Car yards
The powerful 400W floodlights are economical to operate for the
extended hours required by car yards, with the added benefit of
rapid payback.
Warehouse and workshop
High bays provide high-output, low-consumption lighting for large
areas such as warehouses and open space workshops.
For machine operating areas, the robust polycarbonate fittings
and linear fittings are the products of choice, designed to
withstand the accidental knock or spray.
For picking aisles in warehouses, the polycarbonate fittings can be
installed on chains or wall mounted, providing a uniform spread
of light.
Mine sites
The Industrial Floodlight Series has been specifically designed
with the mining sector in mind. These lights are ideally suited
to harsh environments, incorporating features such as rugged
construction, vibration and corrosion resistance and wide
voltage input.
Security and hardstands
The first choice for general outdoor security lighting is the Trim
Series floodlight. The Industrial Series floodlight will suit larger
open areas like hardstands.
Commercial lighting design
Lumitex offers a complementary lighting design service for
commercial applications. This service will ensure that the chosen
lighting layout will meet your expectations as well as comply
with Australian Standards (AS 1680).

Solid State Lighting
Australia’s peak lighting industry body is the Lighting
Council Australia.
Being a Member of Lighting Council Australia (LCA) we take
our role seriously and stand ready to provide a professional
response to your LED lighting needs. We maintain compliance to
the highest level and stay up-to-date with the latest regulatory
issues affecting lighting.
The Lighting Council operates a Solid State Lighting (SSL) LED
performance scheme that results in a label being issued to LCA
Members for eligible products after independent verification of
laboratory testing.
An SSL label allows anyone to directly compare LED system
performance between different suppliers using this system.

LUMITEX LED LIGHTING
Glossary
Barrier, or heat shield – Every recessed light must be installed with a barrier to comply with the current
regulations, unless the manufacturer’s installation instructions state otherwise. The barrier is a safety cover
that segregates the light from combustible materials normally found in the roof space.
Beam angle – The width of the light emitted by the fitting, measured in degrees. A wide beam is not
necessarily “better” than a controlled beam. There are applications for both.
Ceiling cut-out – The diameter of the hole required for a light to be comfortably installed in a ceiling. Existing
residential installations may have cut-outs of 70mm to 110mm or more. Measurement is essential to
determine whether adaptor plates are required.
Colour temperature – The colour of the emitted light from a light source, measured in Kelvin (K). 5000K
is “daylight” white, while 3000K is “warmer” and appears yellowish compared to 5000K. The choice is
subjective. 4000K is middle of the road, but still appears white next to 3000K.
CRI – Colour Rendering Index. A method to describe colour accuracy, i.e. the colour appearance of objects
under different light sources when compared to a reference source of light.
Diffuser – The opaque white plastic sitting in front of LED chips where the primary purpose is to reduce
the glare of the point light source normally associated with LEDs. The diffuser also serves to improve the
uniformity of the light emission.
Driver – Equivalent to the old transformers that operate halogen lighting but more complex, since the
electronics in a driver are also required to limit the current flowing to the LED.
Gimbal – A mechanism designed to allow directional positioning, or swivelling, of a light source to allow for
raked ceilings or to illuminate features on walls.
IP rating – The testing standard that determines the suitability of devices to be installed in areas where
moisture or dust may affect the operation of the device. IP is an abbreviation of Intrusion Protection and
common values include IP54 for lights that can be installed in water closets, or IP65 for lights designed for
outdoor use.
LED – Light Emitting Diode i.e. the light source.
Lumens – The total amount of light produced by the fitting.
Lux – How much of the total light is arriving onto a particular point on a surface.
Nano coating – A special coating of nano structures created by a consistent molecular layer used on devices
that can make electronic components hydrophobic and enhance reflectivity of surfaces.
SSL Label – Solid State Lighting Performance Scheme Label. A scheme operated by the Lighting Council
Australia, where a label is issued to Lighting Council Members after supporting test reports and other
documentation verify the credibility of stated specifications of LED products.
TEMPO – A rigorous laboratory assessment undertaken by the chip manufacturer, Cree Inc, at its Durham
USA lab. The Cree TEMPO test is supplemental to the Australian compliance testing already undertaken.
