7. Software upgrades
Upgrades can be performed using preconfigured https upgrade server or OTA (Over
the Air programming – upgrade package is delivered in DVB stream). OTA can work in
two modes: standard and forced.
7.1 Standard OTA
CubiTV checks DVB stream for existence of SSU (System Software Update). When it’s
available and upgrade to is needed, software will display a pop-up:
Picture 7 Upgrade popup - standard OTA
It gives a user choice if to upgrade software now, or later.
13
7.2 Forced OTA
It works similarly to standard OTA. The difference is no choice for user to delay
upgrade:
Picture 8 Upgrade popup - forced OTA
Upgrade can be started with confirmation by user, or it will be automatically started
when defined time for user’s decision expires.
7.3 HTTPS upgrade
From time to time (randomly, up to 1h) STB searches for upgrades on HTTP server.
Address of the server is stored in STB’s configuration file and can be changed during
life cycle. STB tries to download manifest file from the server. If there are specific
values in manifest which equal the ones that are adequate for the currently installed
software STB starts upgrading application.
In all: standard OTA, forced OTA and HTTPS upgrades box will restart upon choosing to
perform upgrade. Upgrade screen will appear:
14
Picture 9 Downloading software page
STB will restart again after finish of upgrade procedure.

Picture 11 EPG grid
This is a standard grid view of EPG events. In top of screen details of chosen
channel and event are visible. Also channel’s preview is available. In center of a
screen time bar is located. Below there’s a grid of available channels and

10.1 General description
Personal Video Recorder – feature allowing to record TV shows on a compatible disk
connected to the box. Recordings can be started during watching a show with
pressing a “record” button on a remote controller, or can be scheduled to be
recorder in advance.
When “rec” button is pressed during a show, recording will last for at least 2 hours.
If remaining of a show being recorded is more than 2 hours, it will last until the end
of a show. That guarantees that whole show will be recorded: from a moment of
pressing rec button until show’s over.
Of course, recording can be stopped manually at any moment. It is possible by
pressing “stop” button and choosing an ongoing recording that needs to be
stopped.
When there are ongoing recordings, information about it will be shown in EPG grid
with an icon appearing on every show being recorded.
10.2 Recordings prioritization
For each recording CubiTV assigns points to determine how many concurrent
recordings can be handled. Values are:
HD recordings – 11 points
SD recording – 10 points
Maximum sum of points of ongoing recordings is 33 (it is configurable). That means
that maximum of 3 HD recordings can take place at the same time, or 2 HD and 1 SD
recording; or any other combination with sum of points not exceeding 33.
20
For conflict resolving purpose, PVR process has the highest priority in access to tuner.
Also keyword based recordings and scheduled manually have lower priority than the
ones set for a specific event.
When all tuners are occupied with PVR recordings, zapping is only possible to
channels that are on the same MUXes as being currently recorded.
Conflict Resolvers display appropriate messages when there are conflicts, or no free
tuners.
