This biblically accurate performance takes the audience on a spiritual journey to Palestine in 30 A.D., where they travel with the living Christ, meet His Apostles and follow His ministry from the Sermon on the Mount to His resurrection and ascension. The play features beautiful scenery, pipe organ music and live animals. 4 The Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA) is the centerpiece of the city’s Cultural District, which also includes a festival park and a forthcoming creativity center for arts education. A recently renovated historic building with state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, the BCPA features a 1,200 seat auditorium, multipurpose ballroom, and plays host to an annual season of nationally acclaimed touring artists and area performing arts ensembles. Led by a group of specially trained docents, the fascinating history of the BCPA comes to life in the Behind the Curtain Tours. Tour participants are able to see the beautiful neo-Classical interior design of the BCPA and learn about the updates achieved in the building’s significant renovation. The Museum traces its roots back to 1892, the year the McLean County Historical Society was founded. Today, the McLean County Museum of History features several exhibit galleries, over 18,000 objects in its collections, a library of nearly 10,000 volumes and over 1,500 linear feet of archives. The museum also offers many hands-on activities for children, educational programs and annual events including the Evergreen Cemetery Discovery Walk and Christmas at the Courthouse. Davis, friend and mentor to Abraham Lincoln, served as a United States Supreme Court Justice and was a key contributor during Lincoln’s bid for the 1860 Presidential nomination. His Bloomington home, which remained in the Davis family for three succeeding generations, provided a focal point for the social, cultural and political life of the community. The Channel-Norman style Manor, built in 1929, serves as an event venue and hosts meetings, retreats and private events. The Manor is open for walk-in guided tours every Monday from 4:00PM to 6:00PM May through October excluding holidays. Scheduled group tours may be arranged for a fee. Open year-round, Sugar Grove Nature Center includes interpretive exhibits, live animals, and a wildlife viewing room. Over seven miles of well-maintained trails take visitors through prairie and woodland habitats. A nature play area, picnic shelter, astronomy observatory, working blacksmith forge, and numerous other site features make it a unique and beautiful place to enjoy nature. The Constitution Trail is a joint venture between the City of Bloomington and the Town of Normal, and is one of Central Illinois’ most unique attractions. Approximately 37 miles of trail exist within both communities for walking, hiking, jogging, biking and cross country skiing. Trash receptacles, picnic tables, water fountains, shelters, portable toilets and benches are available at various locations along the trail. The trail is open daily from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset, and all forms of motorized vehicles are prohibited. The White House Millennium Council has designated the Constitution Trail as a Millennium Trail.
