Summer Food Service Program for Kids
Our vans have been out, busy providing breakfast or lunch to children in lowincome neighborhoods since the day after school released for summer. We are
conducting things a little differently this summer by holding five congregate sites
where the children eat in a community room or school and another four sites
where children are provided meals just by coming to the van to receive their meal.
You’ll remember from previous articles that only the congregate sites qualify for
reimbursement from the State of Indiana. We have been fundraising for the other
sites and appreciate all of you who have supported this transition financially. It’s
been a financially difficult spring and we appreciate all of the support we continue
to receive.
There are still several ways to support this program.
1. Make a financial contribution using the enclosed envelope or via paypal on our
website: http://www.monroecommunitykitchen.com/donate.html
2. Make a donation of food items needed for this program: granola bars, scone
mixins: chocolate chips, craisins, dried cherries, shredded cheddar cheese,
100% juice boxes, lunchmeat, peanut butter
3. Sign up for our ACH program. Your chosen amount is
automatically donated from your checking account
each month to Community Kitchen. $20/month is
enough to provide food assistance to a child for an
entire year through our Backpack Buddies and
Summer Food Service Programs. Scan this QR code
or visit this website (http://
www.monroecommunitykitchen.com/docs/
ACH_form_2013.pdf) to download and complete an
ACH form now.

Chefs’ Challenge 2015
Sunday, October 4th
Buskirk-Chumley - Competition begins at 7:00pm
Community Kitchen will hold the ninth annual
Bloomington’s Chefs’ Challenge on Sunday,
October 4th. Based on television’s popular Iron Chef,
this culinary event will feature three local chefs
who will have one hour to prepare a winning dish
from a pantry of ingredients. A “mystery ingredient” will be revealed right before the competition
begins. BCAT film crews will show close-ups of the
fast-paced action on the theater's big screen.
Emcees will update the audience as the competition heats up and the celebrity judges will pick the top dish. Judging is
based on the use of time, use of product, including secret ingredient, presentation and taste. Three chefs will be chosen
through email voting to compete in this year’s competition.
Watch the Herald-Times and our next (August) newsletter for upcoming information on voting, Bistro seat auction,
tickets, etc.

Attention all NAP donors. If you typically donate to Community Kitchen for NAP tax credits, please
make sure we have your email address and that you’re checking that email daily. This year we will
notify donors of the availability of NAP tax credits via email, as soon as we hear. We’ve had
difficulty with USPS mail delivery sometimes being delayed so this year we will notify via email,
rather than the USPS. If you have not yet spoken with Debbie to confirm your email address for
this purpose, please call her asap to check in. You can reach us at 812-332-0999.
