We are thrilled to have you and your family at Callaway Gardens. As our guest, you are our priority throughout your stay. This handbook is designed to help you feel at home, learn more about the SFA program, and get the most out of the many amenities and activities within Callaway Gardens. To make sure you start the week on the right foot, here are a few things we recommend: •Review the 2016 SFA Schedule and this Handbook to make sure you know where to be and what to do. •Sign up for our text program for by-the-minute details on schedule and event changes, SFA reminders, major weather alerts and special deals. Text SFA to 81680* •Check out the What’s Happening to know what events are happening and the Map and Guide will guide you around the Gardens. •Secure wristbands on each family member and wear them for the entire week! ($175 fee to replace each lost wristband. Free if broken wristband is returned.) •Make reservations for meals and after-camp activities early to ensure you get desired dates and times. (Learn your room number to easily make charges to your room throughout the week, and don’t forget to sign receipts!) •Get ready for an unforgettable Summer Family Adventure! Throughout the week, our camp counselors will be looking for campers and families who stand out in various activities. Reservations for Activities Many recreational activities are included in your Summer Family Adventure package – check the SFA Schedule for days and times. For additional recreation (not included in SFA program) – TreeTop Adventure, golf, tennis, fishing and water sports – please make reservations by dialing 6000 from any room phone Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., and Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. ACCOMMODATIONS Keycards Please keep your keycard with you at all times. Keycards should not be stored near cell phones or other magnetic devices or your card will become deactivated. In the event that your card does become deactivated, please visit the Front Desk at either the Lodge and Spa or the Mountain Creek® Inn, or call 706.663.2281 for a new keycard. Keycards open armed gates and your lodging. Gate Hours The main Callaway Gardens gates are open from 8 a.m. to dusk each day. Before or after hours, please use your keycard to enter the Southern Pine® Cottage complex at the armed gate off of GA Highway 354. Wi-Fi Wireless Internet is available in all Villa and Cottage accommodations. When logging in to the network in your room, select Callaway Guest in the SSID box and type callaway as the password. If you experience any difficulties in your room, please unplug the cable modem power supply, then plug it back in and try again. If you are still unable to access the Internet, please call CID by dialing 1234 from your room phone or 706.663.2281 from a cell phone.* *In the event that lodging is at full occupancy, you may experience slow or no connectivity for short periods of time. 5 Charging to Room For your convenience, you are able to charge all recreation and dining purchases throughout the property to your room. These charges will be billed to the credit card provided for incidentals during check-in. Please be sure to sign and include your room number on all receipts for charges made to your room. TreeTop Adventure, Water Sports and Trapeze Adventure require reservations/ pre-payment which cannot be charged to your room. Retail purchases cannot be charged to your room. In-Room Channels Your in-room channel guide provides information on in-house groups, restaurants, events and more. You can also view “The Story of Callaway Gardens” on the television in your room. Kitchenware Looking for a kitchen appliance or gadget? Housekeeping has a limited number of additional supplies such as blenders, hand-mixers, toasters, etc. available to guests. To request an item, please call CID at 1234 from your room phone. HOUSEKEEPING Housekeeping Service Your room accommodations have been cleaned and inspected prior to your arrival. Should you need additional assistance upon arrival, please call CID at 1234 from your room phone. Housekeeping service, including the changing of bed linens, is provided on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The Callaway Gardens Housekeeping Team will provide the following services: •Sanitize bathrooms and kitchen areas •Remove trash • Towels left on the towel rack or on the shower rod will indicate that you wish to re-use them. Towels left on the floor will be changed. Additional towels and linens may be requested by dialing 1234 from your room phone. Cottage housekeeping also has a limited supply of Pack ’n Plays® available by request. For additional service, please call 1234 from your room phone. Additional charges may apply. Please Note: In the event that anything beyond standard cleaning is required in your Cottage or Villa to prepare it for the next guest, you will be assessed a minimum cleaning fee of $80. Prevent Unwanted Guests! 6 Your living quarters have recently been treated for insects that live in the South. Following are a few tips that will help ensure those unwanted visitors don’t intrude on your Summer Family Adventure: •Keep doors closed. •Keep all food items in sealed containers. •Empty your kitchen trash often to avoid smells that attract bugs. Trash and recycling containers are conveniently located throughout the Cottage area. Trash containers also are located beside or in front of each Villa. •Low-wattage bug lights have been placed outside of your Cottage to prevent bugs from gathering around light fixtures at night. For safety and bug prevention, please do not take the bulbs out. Should you encounter pest or insect problems in your Cottage or Villa, please call CID immediately at 1234 for assistance. Laundry Facilities Washers and dryers are standard in every Villa, and a small coin-operated laundromat is located in the Soap Opera House, within the Southern Pine Cottage complex. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. For change, please visit the Mountain Creek® Inn Front Desk. Check-Out Policy All SFA guests are required to check-out of accommodations by 9 a.m. on day of departure. Parties who check-out after 9 a.m. will be assessed a late checkout fee of $150. Pet Policy Pets are not allowed in The Southern Pine® Cottages or Mountain Creek® Villas. Anyone with pets occupying a Cottage or Villa will be subject to a pet cleaning fee of $300 and will be responsible for any additional cleaning cost in excess of the pet cleaning fee. Lost & Found Make sure you don’t leave anything behind! If you have lost an item, please contact the Lost & Found desk. Guests should call 5070 from your room phone or 706.663.5070 from a cell phone. CHILDREN’S SFA PROGRAM INFORMATION 7 Toddler Program (ages 2 and younger) Toddler Center, located inside the Children’s Center Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. $7 per hour per child or $30 per day per child. Includes lunch. Check-in and pickup (by an authorized adult) is at the Children’s Center. Sign up Monday morning at the Toddler Center. Children’s Program (ages 3-6) Children’s Center Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. All children must be potty trained. Special activities, led by qualified camp counselors, are planned daily for age groups 3-6. Lunch is available for a small fee (see Children’s Lunch Wristbands below). Children without lunch wristbands may either bring a packed lunch or be picked up at Noon by an authorized adult and returned by 1 p.m. Children’s Lunch Wristbands $35 per week for ages 3-6; $40 per week for ages 7-17 Lunch wristbands may be purchased on Saturday or Sunday at registration or in front of the Circus Tent between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Monday. No lunch wristbands will be sold after 9:30 a.m. on Monday. Children ages 3-12 will be under the supervision of camp counselors during lunch, while ages 13-17 will be released to eat on their own and can return to accommodations if they choose. Wristbands should be worn for the entire week. Secure wristbands on each family member and wear them for the entire week! ($175 fee to replace each lost wristband. Free if broken wristband is returned.) * See page 18 for food allergies. ATTIRE Camp Attire Children will be comfortable in loose-fitting clothes or bathing suits during their camp program. Boys should wear shirts during camp activities and girls should wear comfortable clothing or cover-ups over their bathing suits during camp activities. Secure, closed-toe shoes are required for TreeTop Adventure (no sandals, Crocs® or similar footwear) and recommended for tennis lessons. A cinch sports bag is recommended. Sunscreen is recommended. Dining Attire Casual, cool attire – including golf and tennis wear – is appropriate for breakfast and lunch. Suggested attire for dinner ranges from resort wear to business casual. 8 Golf Attire Proper attire for golf is a shirt with a collar and slacks or Bermuda-length dress shorts for men. Proper attire for ladies is a shirt with a collar and slacks, dress shorts or golf skirts. Golf shoes required. No swimsuits or jeans allowed. TRANSPORTATION RENTAL Bicycle Rentals Bicycles are a great way to get around Callaway Gardens. Our 10-mile Discovery Bicycle Trail leads to all major attractions, and Cottage and Villa accommodations are easily accessible by bicycle as well. You may use your own bicycles or rent them from Callaway Gardens. Daily rentals are available 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Callaway Discovery Center. Overnight rentals are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Weekly Rates* •$125* for Trek FX with optional burley (two-child capacity) •$90* for 3-Speed Automatic or Manual Shift •$70* for 20” or 24” Kids •$50* for 6-Speed with optional child carrier or Trail-A-Bike Daily Rates* (Full/Half Day) •$50*/$30* for Trek FX with optional burley (two-child capacity) •$35*/$20* for 3-Speed Automatic or Manual Shift •$25*/$15* for 20” or 24” Kids •$25*/$15* for 6-Speed with optional child carrier or Trail-A-Bike Guests are responsible for any bicycle damage and/or theft. Golf Cart Rentals* Callaway Cruisers, our four or six passenger carts, are another great mode of transportation for families staying at Callaway Gardens. Callaway Cruisers may be reserved by dialing 5325 from a room phone or calling the Mountain View Golf Clubhouse directly at 706.663.6799. Four-hour rentals are $45*/$60*; daily rentals are $75*/$100*, with checkout anytime after 8:30 a.m. at the Mountain View Clubhouse, and return by 6 p.m. Returns after 6 p.m. are subject to a $45 late fee. Overnight golf cart rental rates are as follows for 4 seater/6 seater •$120*/$150* one night •$210*/$240* four nights •$155*/$185* two nights •$235*/$265* five nights •$185*/$215* three nights •$260*/$290* six nights 9 Guests must be at least 21 years of age to rent a Callaway Cruiser and have a valid driver’s license. Guests ages 16-18 must be accompanied by an adult. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. The Sand Bucket has sunscreen, beach towels, sunglasses, hats, swimwear and more. Hours are subject to change based on weather. Beach Chair, Umbrella and Cabana Rentals Beach Square 1 Activity Center Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Two beach chairs and one umbrella: $30 per day. Private cabana with ceiling fan and two lounge chairs: $45 per day. Tax not included. Games & Activities Robin Lake Beach Sunday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Spend your spare time after camp enjoying Miniature Golf, Table Tennis, Shuffleboard, Giant Chess Sets, and the Children’s Playground around. Aqua Island Robin Lake, Beach Square 1 Activity Center Sunday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. (last ticket will be sold at last time noted) Cool off on Aqua Island, a floating playground featuring a slippery mix of obstacles that can take you from king of the hill to all wet with one false step. $12 per person (plus tax) per session (approximately 45 minutes) – purchase tickets at Square 1 Activity Center at Robin Lake Beach. Activity Passes can be purchased prior to arrival, during check-in, at the Mountain View Golf Clubhouse (Sunday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) or at the Mountain Creek® Inn Front Desk (24 hours a day). 13 Pools Daily, Sunrise to 10 p.m. Guests only have access to use the pool dedicated to their lodging complex. Cottage and Villa guests will need a room key to enter the pool area at their respective pools. All guests who have visited the beach should shower off prior to using the pools. (The Lodge and Spa pool is not available to any Cottage or Villa guests.) All guests swim at their own risk. Golf Mountain View Golf Clubhouse Daily, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. The Mountain View Course hosted the PGA Tour’s Buick Challenge for more than a decade. The Lake View Course is Callaway Gardens’ original course. Both feature rolling, tree-lined fairways and great views of the Gardens’ woodland environment. The Twin Oaks Practice Facility encompasses more than 20+ acres, including almost 1.5 acres of manicured tee space, plus multiple target greens and a large putting green. Individual lessons are available by appointment. Appropriate golf attire is required, including collared shirts and no blue jeans. Occasionally it is necessary to close our golf course for aerification so we can maintain premium course conditions. To help you plan your golf tee times, please note the following aerification dates: Lake View Golf Course: June 6-10, 2016 Mountain View Golf Course: June 20-24, 2016 Please note: Aerification will slightly affect course conditions and playability on the days immediately following this scheduled maintenance work. We recommend making your tee times in advance, as our courses tend to book up quickly. For tee times, call 6000 from your room phone; or if using a cell phone, please call 706.663.6799. For the best golf value, purchase an SFA Activity Pass! Tennis Mountain Creek Tennis Center Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The Mountain Creek Tennis Center features 10 lighted courts (two hard surface, eight clay surface) tennis lessons by a certified USPTA professional, plus a pro shop featuring the latest in tennis equipment and apparel. Hard court fees are $8 per person per hour for singles; $6 per person per hour for doubles; Clay court fees are $9 per person per hour for singles and $7 per person for doubles. Tax not included. Closed-toe shoes recommended. 14 TreeTop Adventure Callaway Discovery Center Daily, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Enjoy the great outdoors from a bird’s-eye perspective on this thrilling course of 34 aerial challenges – including 10 zip lines – that traverses nearly 3,000 feet through a natural forest. $35 per person for the Discovery Course; add the Lake Course for an additional $15 per person; group rates available. Guests must be at least 54” tall and weigh less than 260 pounds, with a maximum waist size of 48”. Guest 36” to 60” tall can experience the Sapling Course. Canoe and Kayak Rentals Boathouse Daily, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Explore 175-acre Mountain Creek Lake and fish for large mouth bass, crappie, bream and catfish. No fishing license is required. Canoes and kayaks rent for $20 for first hour, $10 each additional hour; jonboats range from $35 to $85. Tax not included. Tackle and equipment also are available for rent. Fishing Excursions and Instruction Kingfisher Outfitters Tuesday-Wednesday, 10 a.m.-11 a.m. or 5 p.m.-8:30 p.m. Our expert staff offers guided fly-fishing and conventional-tackle trips on our professionally managed lakes filled with large mouth bass, crappie, bream and catfish. No fishing license is required. A minimum of three days advance notice is required – dial 5142 from your room phone or call 706.663.5142 from a cell phone. Fishing gear is available for rent or purchase. Register at check-in. Walking and Bicycling Callaway Gardens is full of opportunities for an invigorating walk, run or bicycle ride. Robin Lake Circle stretches more than two miles around the Robin Lake Beach area. The sidewalk that skirts Robin Lake’s shore measures approximately one mile and is perfect for a brisk and scenic walk. Callaway Gardens seven miles of walking trails and 10-mile Discovery Bicycle Trail are great options for a morning or early evening jaunt. (See Page 8 for information on bicycle rentals.) Fitness Center 15 The Callaway Gardens Fitness Center offers a variety of aerobic and weightresistant exercise equipment with full restroom and shower facilities. Guest room keycards will open the door. The Fitness Center is available 24 hours and is located on the second floor of the Mountain Creek Inn, with entrances adjacent to rooms 125 and 225. Spa Prunifolia Treat yourself to some extra relaxation at Spa Prunifolia. Their menu of offerings includings nature-inspired treatments, facials, massage, body treaments, manicures, and pedicures, take away increase your well-being. SFA guests receive 15% off weekday services. For appointments, call 1234. GARDENS ATTRACTIONS Callaway Discovery Center Daily, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center is a great starting point for a tour of Callaway Gardens. This expansive facility overlooking Mountain Creek Lake features a staffed information desk for assistance, an informative orientation film, art and nature exhibits, a gift shop and much more. Day Butterfly Center Daily, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center features a 7,000-square-foot glass conservatory, one of the largest in North America, displaying more than 1,000 tropical butterflies from around the world. Birds of Prey Shows Daily, 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.* Our fascinating and educational daily shows feature owls, hawks and other species swooping overhead and visiting guests “on the glove.” Located just outside of the Callaway Discovery Center, the Discovery Amphitheater hosts our outdoor, free-flight Birds of Prey shows. *Outdoor shows are subject to move indoors in the event of inclement or extreme weather conditions. Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl Daily, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. This 40-acre hillside garden is home to more than 3,000 hybrid azaleas and offers a zigzagging network of walking paths through its serene surroundings. Overlook Azalea Garden Daily, 9 a.m.-8 p.m. At the top of the garden, the Overlook Pavilion is ideal for hosting picnics and other events throughout the year and offers sweeping views of Mountain Creek Lake.
