Thank you all for attending the Beluga Ball and supporting the Parent Council. Each year, the Parent Council
supports the CSA District through our many volunteers and fundraising efforts. Your time and your donations are
visible in our schools on a daily basis.
As a charter school, our funding inequality currently totals over $1,700.00 per student in comparison to our
neighboring public schools. That puts us at a $1.8 million disadvantage. Proceeds from the Beluga Ball make
a difference for our students by supporting the libraries and leveled libraries in both campuses, supplying
consumables for the science labs and supporting the beautification of both campuses, including maintenance
of the playground. Technology is ever changing, and we are able to help fund those changes and updates on
a yearly basis. The proceeds from the Beluga Ball also go toward our music programs, listening centers, math
manipulatives, activities and (materials used in) assemblies, and so much more.
In partnership with CSA, we help to serve the whole child and to provide a safe and enriching place for all of our
students to grow and learn.

Greetings CSA District Families,
Thank you for joining us at the 18th Annual Beluga Ball!
Thinking about Michigan brings to mind snow days, ice storms, sub zero weather, messy roads and
cars struggling to make their way along slippery streets. But if we think about Michigan a little more
we will also remember the beauty of fresh snow on Saturday while we drink our coffee in front of
a warm fireplace… or fishing for salmon on the great lakes, attending a game at Comerica Park,
remembering the cars and our history at Greenfield Village, raking leaves and collecting chestnuts,
skiing in a quiet woods, or mountain biking in a state park. Thinking about Michigan brings many
lovely visual images of our state during each season of the year.
Chuck lived in a city on the east coast for five years but came back home because he missed the
changing seasons that define the Michigan experience. We enjoy our visits to Mexico to escape
the cold winters, but there the seasons are hot, hotter and rainy.
It’s the variety of the seasons in Michigan that make the challenges of the winter weather fun. It’s
knowing that sometime toward the end of February spring will soon arrive and bring with it lovely
flowers and warm breezes. And for those of us in the CSA community, the first sign of that
transition to spring is the announcement and invitation to this year’s Beluga Ball.
CSA parents start working early in the school year to create this wonderful event. Working on the
Beluga Ball brings parents to the school where they interact with other parents and school staff
and students. Parent leaders work hard to involve as many stakeholders as possible to prepare
for this grand event, and before you know it the week of the Beluga Ball is here. Everything goes
into overdrive, culminating in a beautiful event. We like to refer to “the Beluga Ball season” as the
beginning of spring in Michigan!
So here we are this evening, and there is only one thing left to do – BUY, BUY, BUY! Put your
money behind your children and your school. Enjoy this grand evening and help raise money for the
extras that make school so special in so many ways for our students.

Flexible Socratic
Platforms
As CSPA continues to grow, our need is for
a large group instructional space for our
students, teachers, musical groups, musical,
Shakespeare practices, NHS, in school
assemblies, athletics and robotics is greater
than ever. We would like to have the
ability to group and regroup students in a
variety of ways so we can better utilize the
space in the High Bay for both instruction
during the day, and in the evening to host
concerts, induction ceremonies, and the
occasional athletic events.
Our goal is to have Sixteen Flexible Socratic
Platforms at CSPA so we can group and
regroup students, and have the ability to
make maximum use of the high bay in a
variety of applications.

these platforms that will help transform
this space into the large group instructional
space we need to meet every students

preview the CLASSROOM PROJECTS and other live auction items.
2. Please have your BID NUMBER CARD with you to place your bid.
3. The Auctioneer will announce the item for bid, (show it to you, if possible) then state the approximate
retail value and starting bid.
4. Please raise your BID NUMBER CARD high to place your bid.
5. The winner is determined by the highest bid.
6. All auction items must be taken home TONIGHT. If any items are not taken home the night of the Ball,
there will be a $35 charge to transport them back to the school and arrange for pick up. Thank you for your
cooperation and understanding in this matter.

announce when check-out is available.
2. Once the D.J. announces that check out is available, please bring your BID NUMBER CARD to the check
out tables to pick up your receipt of item(s) won. Please review your receipt. WE ASK THAT ALL GUESTS
GO THROUGH CHECK OUT TO REVIEW ANY CHARGES.
3. All purchases must be paid for tonight, in full, using either CASH, CHECK (made payable to “CSAPC”),
VISA, or MASTERCARD.*
4. Enter the appropriate line, for CASH, CHECK and CHARGE, to pay your receipt.

Together-Stays Together
A large, refurbished octagon table and chairs
accompanied with four games for the family. The
Orca students made a chess set out of nuts and bolts,
checkers and tic-tac-toe games from clay shapes that
they painted, and handmade boards. For the adults
there is a complete poker set.
Valid for the 2015/16 school year beginning in September through
June. Located on the end of the student parking on the High

18. Irrawaddy - Stain Glass Window
The Irrawaddy class created a stain glass window from
an old fashioned window. Each square was beautifully
designed by a different Irrawaddy student. This will look
wonderful hanging inside or out.

and running through June. Located on the north end of
the parking lot. This 24 hour spot will have a sign posted

A re-purposed antique, leaded glass pane. Retouched
in an antique white- distressed finish and mirrored by
the Middle School Students.

This is a wooden whale we cut, sanded and stained
out of two different pieces of ply wood. It’s roughly 5ft
long and has two different stained layers. It has hanging
string already attached. It would look beautiful in the
halls of CSA or in any under the sea themed area.
Wooden bar cart with casters, outfitted with the
necessities to make you ready to host the next
neighborhood cocktail party. The top features a
herringbone pattern made from wine corks. This cart
