The higher the current rating of the installation the more cost effective busbar trunking becomes. Typically, for an equivalent current rating, cable will weigh more than busbar trunking and occupy considerably more space. Busbar trunking is far quicker to install than cable, especially when using the one bolt joint system offered by Gersan. If we take into account the cost of the cable, the support structure needed to support it due to its greater weight, the cable pulling required to get it in place, the cost of cable tray / ladder, cleats and terminations, the savings from using busbar can be substantial. Add to this the further cost saving afforded by the use of busbar with the aluminium conductors, an option offered by the Gersan range, then the arguments in favour of using busbar systems instead of cable become overwhelming. Busbar is also an environmentally better solution. The Gersan Super Compact range is R0HS compliant, manufactured from halogen free materials, including all plastic parts and is fully recyclable. Gersan busbar trunking is totally prefabricated in our ISO 9001:2008 factories meaning, no fabrication is required on site. The ordered components simply need to be bolted together and tap-off boxes fitted. This design gives the housing high mechanical strength making it particularly suitable for industrial applications. In addition, due to its high quality finish, the GNL range is particularly suitable for installation in areas where aesthetics are important, such as retail. The conductors are electrolytic copper 99.9% pure, tin plated and insulated along their full length (except at the tap-off points). 3 or 5 conductor versions are standard. Each 3 m standard straight length is provided with 3 tap-off points at 100 cm distance on one side of the trunking. End Feed and Centre Feed elements are available. The feed elements are IP55 as standard, and will accept supply cables up to ø16mm. The contacts at the joints of the busbar and the contacts of all tap-off units are silver coated. The silver coating minimises the contact impedances, thus preventing over-heating of the contacts in the event of overload. Tighten the screw in the slot. It is not possible to bring the two lengths together unless the screw and slot are correctly aligned. This ensures the conductors are connected correctly. Fit and secure the cover plates to the joint. This provides mechanical strength to the joint and rates the joint at IP55. 1500 -2000 mm Suggested distance between hangers The finished installation must be fully electrically tested.
