In May, Steve Brody, Executive Director of the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, spoke to us. He continues to cheer on Galesburg and all the progress that we have made. He encourages us to do the same. They have had an increase in membership with 50 new members this year. This is the first time for an increase since 2007. He intends to have increased communication with members through surveys like the Gas Tax Survey and the Development Survey. Steve is a member of a coalition called the “Circle” which consists of 18 chambers of Commerce to help support each other and bring up issues to political leaders to defend business like Workman’s compensation and the Minimum Wage raise. There has also been an increase in the programs that they have provided for members like HR Customer Service and Fraud Notifications from the Galesburg Police Department. We have lots of progress to aid Galesburg in becoming more business friendly and a lot nicer for residents with the new bridges, the entrance to Galesburg on I74, the Downtown Square, Building Codes, Landscaping Ordinances redeveloped, and Economic Partnerships. We have lots of new businesses in town; 4 new clothing stores, 2 new hair salons, 3 new restaurants, manufacturing, a food delivery service, a new gas station w/convenience store, and a storage facility. Galesburg is a great place to live. Educate friends, colleagues, and neighbors about all the good that is going on in Galesburg! Let’s celebrate what we have while making it better! The Membership Meeting in September will be our first this fall. I hope we have a good attendance to hear our speaker who is Mark Blackburn. The Golf Outing was great! Even the weather was pleasant this year. We need your thoughts and ideas for speakers during this year. What do you want a speaker to talk about? This last month, the Western Illinois Builders Association had the chance to help a World War II Veteran by building a wheelchair ramp for him. Thanks to Kaylee Johnson for her time and effort of putting this project in place. Also a big thank you to all the men that helped in building the ramp! Take time to attend the WIBA Membership Meeting and share your thoughts, concerns and the good things that are going on in the area. Sincerely, Wayne Allen President of the Board Happy Fall! 70 Members The Goal Setting Committee has begun making public service announcements to help protect consumers. The Playhouse is being built by Roger Williams, General Contractor. The Playhouse recipients are Knox Community Prairie Kitchen. The Annual Golf Outing had 14 teams & 11 extra for dinner; and many prizes were given away. It was beautiful that day! The M.
