Nicola l i v e d i n t h e town and was a b u t c h e r .
Angela l i v e d on a farm. She l e a r n e d t h e
t h i n g s s h e would need t o know t o b e a good
f a r m e r ' s w i f e , t h i n g s l i k e doing t h e family
wash i n t h e nearby s t r e a m . They were
m a r r i e d on October 21, 1898 b u t i t w a s n ' t
e a s y t o a r r a n g e ! A n g e l a ' s p a r e n t s were
making arrangements f o r a m a r r i a g e between
t h e i r d a u g h t e r and a n o l d e r man, a r i c h
f a r m e r . Angela d i d n ' t c a r e f o r t h a t i d e a
b e c a u s e s h e loved N i c o l a . Then t h e r e was
t h e m a t t e r o f ~ i c o l a ' sr e q u i r e d y e a r i n
t h e Army, t h e y had t o w a i t f o r t h a t t o b e
completed. They s o l v e d a l l t h e problems,
t h e y e l o p e d . ~ i c o l 'as f a m i l y welcomed
Angela i n t o t h e i r home b e c a u s e t h e y loved
her dearly.
E v e n t u a l l y , Nicola and Angela d e c i d e d
t o s e e k a b e t t e r l i f e i n America.
Nicola
went ahead f i r s t t o make a r r a n g e m ~ n t sf o r
h i s f a m i l y t o f o l l o w a s soon a s p o s s i b l e .
When Angela f i n a l l y boarded a s h i p t o j o i n
him, s h e had w i t h h e r , E l i z a b e t h aged f o u r
and Joseph u n d e r one y e a r . H e r mother
i n s i s t e d s h e l z a v e Dolores behind i n I t a l y .
H e r t h i n k i n g w a s t h a t Angela w o u l d n ' t s t a y
i n America a s l o n g a s one o f h e r c h i l d r e n
w a s s t i l l i n I t a l y . That d i d n ' t work,
because i n a couple of y e a r s , Angela's
b r o t h e r Rocco, l e f t I t a l y and brought
Dolores w i t h him. ~ n g e l a ' socean voyage was
n o t t h e most p l e a s a n t one f o r h e r and t h e
two c h i l d r e n . The whole t r i p t o o k twenty

Nicola and Angela e s t a b l i s h e d t h e i r
family i n Wilmington, Delaware.
In the
b e g i n n i n g , Nicola worked on a horsedrawn
wagon f o r a b e e r d i s t r i b u t o r . The c h i l d r e n l i k e d t h a t , because he would t a k e them
f o r a r i d e i n t h e wagon on Sundays. A t
one time he had a small g r o c e r y s t o r e .
E v e n t u a l l y he went t o work i n t h e Round
House of t h e Pennsylvania R a i l r o a d Co. He
worked t h e r e many y e a r s . He would l o v e t o
t a k e a t r a i n r i d e t o New York o r Washingt o n j u s t f o r t h e day. Many times t h e two
of them would g e t a Pass and t a k e a t r i p .
A f t e r r e t i r i n g from t h e R a i l r a o d , Nicola
worked f o r a couple of y e a r s a t Salesianum
8 t h and West a s a maintenance worker. He
h a t e d t o s e e t h e boys waste food l e a v e
t h e i r clothes a~ound.
They had a long happy l i f e t o g e t h e r .

i n Wilmington, except f o r a s h o r t time i n
Baltimore. Perhaps you c a l l E l i z a b e t h ,
Aunt Bebe, h e r baptismal name i s Concetta.
She i s an a r t i s t a s a s e a m s t r e s s , however,
a s a young woman s h e l e a r n e d t o be a
m i l l i n e r ? She made h a t s from s c r a t c h i n
t h e days when o s t r i c h f e a t h e r s were used
f o r t r i m i n g . Crochetind and embroidery

R i t a A . C i c c h i n i born May 4 , 1921 i n
Wilmington married Anthony F. Rango on
February 1 9 , 1966 i n Wilmington. Tony was
born incBrooklyn, N.Y. on March 11, 1926.
They moved t o Norristown, P a . t h e y e a r they
were married. R i t a worked f o r t h e B e l l
Telephone Co. f o r 24 y e a r s , 4 months and
22 days. She has been a homemaker s i n c e .

John J. DiIenno born on December 19,
1906 in Wilmington married Lucy Cuocolo
on January 30, 1932 in Wilmington. Lucy
was born on May 22, 1909 in Sicklerville,
N.J. Johnny is a bricklayer and had a
Construction company for years. He's
retired now and enjoys things like making
mushroom salad. Lucy worked for the DuPont
Co. as a Nylon Operator. She is retired
and enjoys cooking for her grandchildren
and great grandson. Johnny and Lucy celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Their childxen gave them a big surprise
p arty. At this timethey are the only
Di Ienno children to reach fifty years of
marriage. Their children are Angela and
the twins John and James.

Angela P. Di Ienno born on December
11, 1932 was married to Anthony G. Pedicone
onSeptember 10, 1952 in Wilmington. Nin
was born on July 26, 1927 in Wilmington.
Angela is a homemaker and Nin works for the
DuPont Co. as a Lab technician. Angela
is on the Junior Board of St. Francis
Hospital in her spare time. Their children James (who was born November 9, 1953
and died November 12, 1953), John, David
and Nicole.
John A Pedicone was born on March 7,
1955 in Wilmington, Johnny is a trumpet
player for the Anheuser band. He feels
that music is his vocation and avocation.

1963 in Wilmington. At present Carolyn is
a freshman at the University of Delaware.

Amy N. Di Ienno was born on May 21,
1965 in Wilmington. Amy is a junior in
Mc Kean High School. Her favorite things
in life are roller skating and clothes.
James J. Di Ienno Jr. was born on
February 14, 1971 in Wilmington. Jimrnie

Rev. Nicholas Clement Di Ienno O.S.F.S.
was born on July 12, 1912 in Wilmington.
As a very young man he was a carpenter and
liked to perform in local minstrelshows.
He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1943
at St. ~nthony'sChurch. He celebrated
his first Mass the following day in Sacred
Heart Church. Fr. Nick has been a very
busy man. He taught in Salesianum, when
it was at 8th and West and also in Northeast Catholic ~ i g hSchool in Philadelphia.
You should have seen the Operettas he
directed at ~ortheast! He was stationed
at St. Anthony's and at time built
Fournier Hall. Then for many years he
was occupied with the construction of the
the Allentown College of St. Francis de
Salesand the Oblate Seminary in Coopersburg. Fr. Nick is in semi-retirement now,
but if you think he's sitting around
twiddling his thumbs, you don't know him!

All the generations have had varying degrees of education. Nicola did
have some schooling but Angela didn't.
She might not have studied Math but you
couldn't cheat her when counting money!
In the first generation it goes from
Elizabeth who finished fourth to Fr.
Nick who graduated Catholic University.
In the succeeding generations all the
high schools in Wilmington are represented, even the one that no longer
sxists, Brown Vocational. There is a
smattering of un-finished college in
the second generation. Bunny finished
two years in Santa Ana Junior College.
Bob Perry is the winner, he has a
couple of degrees. The young people
in our third generation are doing
well. They have completed or are now
attending schools of higher learning
at the present time. The University of
Delaware is well represented and Bob
Willard has his Law degree from
Dickinson.
There hasn't been any mention of
the brothers and sisters of Nicola and
Angela, however, you might be interested in knowing that one of ~icola's
brothers settled in Suenos Aires,
Argentina. l t q svery possible that one
of our relatives is fighting in the
Falklands War.
