We are a not-for-profit organization. The Hospital’s employees and medical staff are involved in a wide variety of activities that benefit our neighbors. Following are some of the programs we participated in during Fiscal Year 2014. Community Events Sturdy hosted or participated in many community, familyoriented events in our service area in fiscal 2014. In addition, sports sponsorships were secured in nine towns. Giving people a forum to discuss concerns, and helping them cope and better manage their health issues, is important to their overall well-being. Estimated value – $150,000 • American Cancer Society Relays for Life • American Heart Association Go Red for Women Day • Attleboro High School-Based Health Center – the Health Center’s mission is to promote good health for better learning by facilitating increased access to health care for adolescents.This service is funded by the Hospital at a cost of $14,000 per year. • Blood Drives • Colorectal Cancer Screening Public Education • Emergency Preparedness Awareness/ Community and Regional Education – Sturdy not only educates every member of its staff, but extends that education to the public via area civic organizations. • Financial Assistance Counseling • Global Safety Day • Hand Washing Public Education • Health Care News Interviews & Columns • MADD Project Red Ribbon • Palliative Care & End of Life Planning Public Education • Pan-Mass Challenge • Physician Referral Line • Reach Out & Read (ROAR) • Sharps Disposal Program w/ Area Fire Departments • Senior Meals Dinner Program • Speaker’s Bureau – we make our experts available to local groups such as the senior centers, church groups, and parent groups, so that they may bring timely health care topics and education to their respective memberships. Sturdy clinicians are also commonly sought after and contribute to health care news at the local, state, and, sometimes, national level. • Stroke Public Education • Free Valet Parking – patients and visitors appreciate this convenience, which costs the Hospital $50,000 each year. • Walk for Hunger An Ounce Of Prevention We venture to keep the members of our communities informed, healthy, and safe via programming that focuses on prevention and wellness. Estimated value – $130,000 •Advanced & Basic Cardiac Life Support Training •Cancer Professional Education Program •EMS Education & Medical Oversight – Sturdy emergency physicians provide medical control/supervision for eight communities – Attleboro, North Attleboro, Norton, Mansfield, Plainville, Foxboro, Seekonk, and Rehoboth – at no charge to those communities. Our annual estimated expenditure for this in-kind service is approximately $125,000. •Health Agent Educational Meetings •Nursing Education Programming Mentoring The Youth Of Our Communities We serve medical and nursing students as well as student interns from more than 50 schools and colleges. Employees, volunteers, and our medical staff donated food to those less fortunate, supported efforts to ensure key social services are available in the community through the United Way of Greater Attleboro/Taunton annual campaign, and made the holidays special for several area families, among other things.
