Wondering what traffic is going to be like when transporting the kids to their summer activities? Check out the Village’s road construction webpage found on the village website, www.vil.woodridge.il.us. The page includes information on local and regional road projects that may impact your travel times. If you’re planning a trip of longer distance, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) offers a website that provides construction information and other helpful information relating to Illinois roads and highways. Motorists can access this information at www.gettingaroundillinois.com. Fourth of July Firework Show at Zigfield Troy Golf Course, 9:30 p.m. Village residents are encouraged to plan their celebration of the Fourth of July in Woodridge! The firework show will take place at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4th, at the Zigfield Troy golf course (1535 75th Street). The best views of the fireworks will be from the parking lots along 75th Street. Those planning on attending the firework show are encouraged to consider the construction on 75th Street and the impacts that it will have on traffic. Plan to arrive early and for a longer amount of time to depart. Officers will be present to direct traffic, however, slower movement of traffic is inevitable due to the construction. Attendees are encouraged to carpool. Recreation & Fitness Business Guide Now Available! The Village invites you to check out our guide for recreation and fitness related businesses in Woodridge! A Reminder on Yardwaste and Illegal Dumping Now that warm weather and yard work has returned, the Public Works Department would like to remind residents that it is not only a problem but also illegal to dump brush, yardwaste or any other debris into public easements, creeks or retention areas. Dumping creates potential hazards for crews that need to access those areas and can cause flooding and back-up issues by preventing storm water from draining properly. Discarded yardwaste also holds moisture creating an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes. The Village asks that you do your part to keep easement areas free of yardwaste and debris and that you report any illegal dumping to the Community Development Department at (630) 719-4750. 2 Nominate Someone for the Community Recognition Do you know someone or some organization that has provided positive contributions to the community? If so, the Village of Woodridge wants to hear from you! You or your group may nominate an individual to be identified by the Village in the Annual Community Recognition Program. The program recognizes individuals for the categories of citizen, business, association, employee, and youth (under 21). Nominations are reviewed by the Woodridge Intergovernmental Council who then recommends candidates to the Village Board for consideration. Nominations must be received by July 26th. Prevent Emerald Ash Borer – Don’t Move Firewood The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a small (1/2 inch long, 1/8 inch wide) metallic green beetle that has killed millions of ash trees across the Midwest. One of the best ways residents can assist in preventing the spread of EAB is to not transport firewood. The EAB can be hidden inside ash logs and moving those logs provides an easy way to transport the borer to new locations. Make sure to purchase your firewood locally from a known source and be sure to use all of the firewood so that no hidden EAB larvae or adults can survive on logs left through the spring. Additionally, if you are hiring a tree professional to do any maintenance work on your property, check to see that the contractor has an Emerald Ash Borer Compliance Agreement with the Illinois Department of Agriculture. Stay informed about EAB by visiting the Village of Woodridge’s website, www.vil. woodridge.il.us. A plaque of recognition will be awarded to the winner of each category. Please contact Leslie Davies at (630) 719-4706, if you have any questions. A nomination form can be found on the Village website, www.vil. woodridge.il.us. Reminder – As the weather gets better we all start using the sidewalks to get around town. One of the complaints the police department receives is vehicles parked blocking the sidewalks, which causes residents to walk around the parked cars and can cause a dangerous situation. Our Village Ordinance states, “No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer or traffic-control device on a sidewalk or parkway.” If any part of your vehicle is parked on a sidewalk, you are in violation of the ordinance and could face a fine of $30.
