HARDSHIP-REGISTRATION FACT SHEET
“Without papers it’s just another horse”
Do you own a gelding or spayed mare with Appaloosa characteristics and an unknown or unapproved
pedigree? If so, ApHC Hardship-Registration is for you!
Hardship-registration will introduce you to a multitude of ApHC programs and services, increase the value of
your horse by certifying ownership and create showing, trail riding, and award-earning opportunities for you,
your horse, or a future owner. For horses with unknown parentage, the process is EASY and INEXPENSIVE
and there are no required Stallion Breeding Reports, Breeder’s Certificates, Inspections or DNA typing!
Eligibility Requirements:
 Horse must be gelded or spayed;
 Horse must display Appaloosa characteristics so as to be eligible for Regular (#) registration classification;



Appaloosa Coat Pattern;
Mottled skin and striped hooves in the absence of white leg markings;
Mottled skin and white sclera encircling the iris of the eye;
 Horse must have unknown or unapproved pedigree;
Application Process:
 Go to the Appaloosa Horse Club Website (www.appaloosa.com) and navigate to Registration;
 Click on Downloadable Forms;
 Print the Hardship Registration Application;
 You may click on Tips For Registering Your Appaloosa for additional information;
 Complete the Hardship-Registration Application to the best of your ability;

The ApHC understands that with a Hardship applicant horse, you may not know the exact foaling or
gelding date, so it is perfectly fine to submit your best estimates.
 If the pedigree is unknown note Unknown under sire and dam information.
 Take photographs of your horse including all face and leg markings;






Rear view;
Right side view;
Left side view;
Additional close-up photographs of brands, scars, and small markings such as a snip on the lower lip
or a heel mark may also be taken;
Required Fees:
 $125 Hardship-Registration (ApHC Members);
 $185 Hardship-Registration and Individual ApHC Membership;
 Please note there are additional fees and requirements for Hardship-registration
applicants when one or both parents are registered with the ApHC or an ApHC
Approved Breed Registry (AQHA, AHA, or JC).

C. HORSE IDENTIFICATION: Required photographs include four current colored photographs, including both sides, a direct face and a rear view, clearly showing all
face and leg markings, as well as close-up photographs of any brands and/or scars. Photographs must be on photo quality paper and not larger than 4x6 inches (10.2 cm x 15.2 cm). The
ApHC reserves the right, at its discretion, to require additional photographs of better quality. Pictures become the property of the Appaloosa Horse Club.
