“TREASURES”
MATTHEW 6: 19-21 “……For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also
Many times at rod runs around the country, I have spoken about my love for street
rodding and my particular love for a certain chopped 1938 Chevrolet. I could say that the
’38 is special because of its unique lines (but it looks a lot like a ’37) or its special stance.
It has a good rake (too much say some folks!). I could tell you about the thrill of
receiving a “thumbs up” from fellow motorists as we travel to rod runs and the number of
great times we have had traveling.
The real reason I love that old car is the joy it has brought and continues to bring into my
life. The memories of three kids going with Linda and me to rod runs is one reason.
They’re grown now, but still come home occasionally and accompany Mom and Dad to
one of their favorite runs.
The friendships formed and bonded over twenty years of activity is another reason. The
ministry and Christian friends that God has given us as a direct result of our involvement
with that “38 Chevrolet are cherished above all the awards and accolades that have been
received.
I also know, as sure as I’m writing this article, that some day that ’38 Chevrolet will
belong to someone else. Some day the title will be in someone else’s name.
The kids have ongoing conversations about who will get the old car when Mom and Dad
are gone. I don’t know who will end up with it or if the kids will still want it after Linda
and I get through wearing it out! My prayer is that it doesn’t cause any harsh words or
divisions when the time comes. After all, it is just a car.
No matter how many memories are attached to it, it is not and should not be where your
heart is. Your heart should be with the eternal things of God. Your heart should be with
your family. Your heart should be with your friends. Our thoughts should be on the
blessings that God has sent our way over the years. (Family and friends are God’s
blessings, too!)
The true treasures are those that are unseen. They are those that are built in Heaven.
They are those that are built in loved ones’ hearts. They are the good things you do for
others when you think no one else is watching. God sees when no one else does! They
are those things you do that help direct others to the Heavenly Father.
As Christians these are the things that we should dwell on. God wants us to share the
good news!
Where are your treasures? Where is your heart? God knows that they are in the same
place! Do you?

President’s Message:
Our car show for July fell short of our expectations due to the heat and clouds. We had
118 paid cars. The beverage sales were good, t-shirt sales were just okay and the
popcorn give a ways were down. Kudos to JB for selling the toys that were given to us.
We will bring out the toys next month and see how many more we can sell. We made
$500.00 on toy sales and $40.00 was donated from a club member for the generator.
Let’s hope that the weather cooperates with us for the August show which is the TEXAS
HOT AUGUST NIGHTS. This show is going to have Praise Inc. singing for about one hour
and half.
Congratulations to Bill Crow for getting a car. I think the only reason he bought the car
was because he found that Linda likes the mufflers on it.

July 4th Parade – Arlington
Arlington July 4th parade preparations began soon after the parade theme was
announced by the Arlington 4th committee. Bobby Stout is our representative at these
meetings every year and is just one more thing he does behind the scenes that nobody
knows about. Thanks again Bobby. The theme this year was "The Many Faces of
America's Freedom".
After surfing the internet for different ways to go, we came up with the theme of FDR's
1941 State of the Union Speech which outlined what in his opinion at the time (this was
11 months before Pearl Harbor) were the "four basic freedoms". Freedom of
Worship, Freedom of Speech, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. This speech
inspired Norman Rockwell after Pearl Harbor to draw four posters depicting these four
freedoms. They were used to help sell war bonds to support the war effort in America.
America geared up for war and as automobile and aircraft factories churned out more
airplanes, tanks, jeeps, weapons, and soldiers than the world had ever seen before.
These posters depicting ordinary people in America supporting America were indeed the
"Many Faces of America's Freedom."
So now the float building begins. As usual, Stubby (Wayne's truck) was the base for the
float. Stubby had several alternator and radiator issues to be resolved before parade
time, but with lots of help and plenty of free advice, Stubby was once again parade
worthy. Several flags decorated fence panels from years past provided a backdrop for
the posters.
The guys painted and put the fence panels on and the girls installed the
posters. The guys are more straight-line types and wanted the posters lined up in a
straight line, but the girls are more curvy-types and suggested the posters be installed in
a wavy configuration. You can see from the pictures who won. Looked good too. With
that much decoration already in place, the finishing touches would be applied at the
parade staging area right before judging was to begin at 7am.
For several float building gatherings, The Dixie House Cafe has been the closest and most
logical place to eat lunch. Wide variety of menu choices, lots of tables, plenty of parking
and the world famous ketchup warming waitress. Bobby got meat loaf and requested
extra meat loaf sauce. "It's just ketchup" the waitress exclaimed. "But I want it warmed
up" Bobby replied. At which point the waitress grabbed the ketchup bottle and stuck it
down the front of her dress. "I'm heating it up for you" she said, looking directly at
Bobby. I think Bobby turned about the same color as the ketchup bottle. I don't think he
will ever eat ketchup again. We all laughed.
The day of the parade arrived and the weather was great. Hot as usual, but not too bad
for July 4th Wayne's truck would lead our group and we filed in behind him along with
Bobby's girls carrying the club banner. (they are the only ones capable of walking the
whole parade without dying). Bobby also walked the whole route, telling the announcer
at each PA location who and what we were. He would have to get there ahead of us,
describe the vehicles all the way to the end of our group, and then run to get to the next
announcer's stand before the first car did. Try that five times without killing over.
There were some improvements this year to the patented Cort Rea Parade Cooling
System. Canvas shopping bags with long straps to hook over the carb neck were
acquired at a tremendous expense ($1.00 ea) to replace the standard model 10 lb plastic
ice bags. A huge improvement. No Joe Bob saying what's that smell? Something's on
fire. That along with some new electric cooling fans kept Baby (55 Chevy) at a
comfortable 185'.
We were directed along the parade route by our very own Bill Andrieu and former club
member Roy Mitchell. There are clowns, bands, Elvis’s and horses ahead and behind us.
We had a good low parade staging number this year so we didn't have to sit too long
before we got started. Takes about an hour to actually do the parade route and I think
everyone made it just fine this year, including me. We all regrouped in the parade
staging area and dismantled the float and headed out for lunch. I left at that point.

I had to drink all this yucky stuff for 24 hours before a test the next day so I don't know
what happened after that. But I do know we won first place in Classic Car Clubs, second
place in Float Division and Al won third place in Classic Cars. A fine club outing.

Thanks to Nina Bianco for a great time at Bunco. She was the host for the
month of July. Mary Michaels and Nancy Hunter joined us this month. We
enjoyed seeing and talking with them.
The winners were: Most wins was Anita Hale.
Most losses went to Reyna
Kinnan and Courtney Johnson. They got to share this honor.

Bunco’s won by Nancy Hunter. Linda Crow and Marilyn Conner had the Most
Bunco’s. Marilyn can win when all the competition is gone!! (A.K.A. Linda

meeting.

Bits and Pieces:
A "Big Thanks" to Toby Wilburn and Stan Friesen for taking pictures of our club
cars. There were thirty four members that had their picture taken. Appreciate
Advantage Autoworks in North Richland Hills for letting us use their picture
perfect antique service station as the background. Pictures will be put on the
CCC website.

Several members from the Stephenville Christian Classic Car Club came and
participated in our July show. They liked the new judging format and are
considering using in the future.
Louisville, KY Trip - Update
Eight brave souls blazed a trail to Louisville on 30 th of July. Along the way we
picked up a 9th passenger. A gremlin! Don't know if it was the same one as
last year however it chose to ride with the same car. A 55 Chevy pie wagon.
Maybe it just likes pie! At a gas stop it would not start. So a screwdriver across
the starter got us on the road. At the motel for the mid way stop the gremlin
got back in. This time our cruise electrician checked things out but the champion
was Chris Sowell. He discovered a jumper cable that the end was not crimped
correctly and a Southern engineering fix was on the way.
So this reporter is signing off for the day. Stay tuned for further news of this
trip.
