Denturists - Yukon IEHP
Information for
Internationally Educated
Health Professionals
on
Denturists
FOLLOWING THE STEPS
Before you can work as a Denturist in Yukon, you need to
get a licence from the Government of Yukon.
In order to apply for licensure in Yukon, you must first be
licensed to practise as a denturist in another Canadian
jurisdiction (except Nunavut).
In Canada, there are differences between a denturist and a
dental technologist / technician: a denturist works directly
with the public whereas a dental technologist / technician
has no patient contact. Dental technologists / technicians
fabricate dental appliances for dentists and denturists.
It is a common mistake to think that a Dentist can register
as a Denturist. The two professions are different and have
separate education and qualification requirements. There is
not reciprocity between the two professions. Internationally
educated Dentists need to follow the licensure process
established for Dentists.
The following steps explain the path to licensure for
Denturists. For more information about working and living in
Yukon, funding supports and other helpful resources, please
visit the Yukon web portal for Internationally Educated
Health Professionals (IEHP) at www.yukoniehp.ca.
STEP 1:
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
English is the official language of Yukon and it is important
that health professionals know it well.
Please contact one of the provincial denturist regulatory
authorities in Canada to find out how you can prove
language proficiency. A contact list of all regulators is
available on the website of the Denturist Association of
Canada at www.denturist.org.
STEP 2:
QUALIFICATION RECOGNITION

STEP 3:
BRIDGING PROGRAMS
A bridging program is a program that introduces you to the
practice of denturism in Canada and helps you prepare for
the entry-to-practice exam and for the work as a Denturist
in Canada.
If your educational credentials are being assessed as
not being equivalent to Canadian standards, you may be
referred to an accredited upgrading program. There are four
accredited Denturist programs in Canada:
• Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in
Edmonton;
STEP 6:
RELATED CAREERS
If Canadian licensure is not an option, you may want to
advance your education at one of the denturist schools
in Canada listed under “Bridging Programs”.
Alternatively, you could pursue a career as a
dental technologist or dental technician. These are
unregulated professions in Yukon and job offerings
may be advertised in the local newspapers or on
www.yuwin.ca.
For other career options please contact one of the
career counsellors in Whitehorse. A contact list is
available at www.yukoniehp.ca.
• George Brown College in Toronto;
• Vancouver Community College in Vancouver; and
• College Edouard-Montpetit in Quebec.
For more information on any of these programs, please visit
their websites.
STEP 4:
NATIONAL

Each provincial regulatory authority administers its own
entry-to-practice exam. Please contact one of the provincial
