Mens A/W16: Knitwear Mens A/W16 offered up a plethora of knitwear options for the season; from classic, mass market shapes and designs appropriate for all customers, to niche and fashion-forward embellishments, colour techniques and intarsia designs. From the key knitwear themes moving throughout the season, it was clear how each can be adapted to specific key themes, brands and customers. Cable Knitwear Etro Moschino Astrid Andersen Topman Design Burberry Chunky Cable Knit patterns in knitwear could been seen throughout the A/W16 season. Burberry took the traditional route, with smaller scale cables; while Astrid Andersen and Etro presented single cable spirals in chunky and misshapen designs. Ribbed Knitwear Opening Ceremony Christian Dada Jil Sander Ovadia & Sons Lou Dalton Ribbed Knitwear was seen throughout the A/W season, with designers offering a straight-forward knit basic. Weights varied, with designer Christian Dada presenting light weight skivvy options – Jump to the other end of the spectrum, Jil Sander and Opening Ceremony provide heavier alternatives as key layering pieces. Waffle Knit Cadet Jil Sander Hermes N. Hoolywood Lou Dalton Waffle knits offered a knitwear option for the Utilitarian Sportswear and Weekend in Kensington theme, with classic knitwear options that with suit a conventional customer. Hermes added an intarsia argyle design to their waffle knit, with contrast yarns. Destroyed Treatments Raf Simons Topman Design Miharayasuhiro Etudes Maison Margiela Knitwear with raw edges, loose threads, large holes and destroyed treatments through took ‘worn-in’ motifs to the next level. These types of knitwear embellishments with be key within the Streetwear Nomad key theme. Chunky Knits Christopher Raeburn N. Hoolywood Issey Miyake Ann Demuelemeester Berluti Chunky knitwear in oversized shapes, long lines, thick yarns and are gauges provided knitwear pieces that fit in with oversized key shape trends. Expect to see chunky knitwear styles within the Streetwear Nomad key theme. Melange Knitwear No21 Pal Zileri John Elliott Charles Jeffrey Pringle of Scotland Mixed yarns and space dyes made up a huge amount of the knitwear presented for A/W16, with macro trends moving away from clean, classic knitwear and towards worn-in and individualised looks. Gradients Antonio Marras Richard James Berluti Todd Snyder Plac Colour gradients, typically in open cardigan shapes, created dip dye effects in knitwear for A/W16. Most colourways explored the grey spectrum, while Richard James presented a bold red and blue gradient option. Intarsia Perry Ellis Diesel Black Gold Salvatore Ferragamo Ermanno Scervino Vivienne Westwood Knitwear intarsia returned this season in multiple designs and concepts. Ermanno Scervino presenting placement skull intarsia, while Vivienne Westwood, Perry Ellis and Diesel Black gold introduced all-over designs in multiple yarn colours. Colour Blocking Casely-Hayford Kolor Agi & Sam Nautica Dior Colouring blocking in knitwear pieces was a bold and clean addition to the season. Nautica and Kolor applied colour blocking to mixed cable and ribbed knitwear, while Dior and Casely-Hayford presented stripes and checks within colour blocking.
