Skycasters Capabilities Statement
Skycasters Capabilities Statement
Skycasters is the leader in broadband satellite Internet solutions for agencies
and organizations that need more than traditional terrestrial landlines.
Our entire infrastructure—from teleports and hubs to the Network Operations Center (NOC)—is
business-grade and company-owned. Even the equipment at your location is business-grade. It’s
specifically designed to meet the unique challenges of first responders, homeland security, public
safety officials and the like—no matter how demanding the conditions. The end result is maximum
reliability from a system that performs the way you need it to. It’s good to know we also offer 24/7
tech support, and that all of your questions are handled in-house by experts who can resolve any
issue that may arise.
Performance: CIR, Latency, Jitter
Performance may be the single most important factor to consider when comparing satellite Internet
solutions. Instead of “up to” speeds, Skycasters guarantees a Committed Information Rate (CIR)
with low-latency, low-jitter transmission. Because our connection is direct to the U.S. Internet
backbone, there are fewer points of potential failure or congestion.
Coverage
Our extensive satellite footprint covers all of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.
We can provide this coverage because we own bandwidth on three sought-after geostationary
satellites: G-28, T11N, and AMC-1/SES-3.
Our Company
Formed in early 2001, Skycasters provides satellite Internet, data, and VPN services powered by
the award-winning iDirect VSAT platform developed by VSAT Systems. We have thousands of
government, non-profit, educational, and commercial customers throughout North and Central
America, but only one mission: To continue as America’s premier, full-service, business-grade,
satellite ISP— and to offer the most highly engineered and supported satellite Internet and data
services available.

Facilities and Equipment
• 44,000 sq. ft. headquarters and teleport/Network Operations Center (NOC) located in Akron, OH
• World-class data center for VPN and DMZ data co-location: a clean, secure, temperature controlled environment with biometric security
• 10,000 sq. ft. warehouse for rapid fulfilment of orders
• Advanced satellite Internet modem (indoor unit): a single-box broadband satellite Internet modem with onboard TCP optimization and QoS (Quality of Service) capabilities, router, and DNS
• Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) is managed remotely from the
NOC for configuration changes, real-time monitoring, and historical reporting
• Dynamic Tx Power Control: increases transmit power when weather or atmospheric conditions
dictate for fewer weather-related outages and faster recovery times
• Enforced Quality of Service (QoS)
– Optional network-based QoS prioritization can also provide class-based
queuing, which assigns a percentage of bandwidth to each class
–
QoS can be customized on a per-client or per-remote basis
