Through the Arts, I have gained confidence and a better understanding of myself. I have also learned how to successfully work with others in groups, and how to properly utilize people’s strengths. I have made many friends through SJSH’s Drama program, and the memories I have received from it are invaluable.” Elijah Kazlauskas – Grade 12 student Arts Share Your Gifts Winners of the most Sears Drama Festival awards in the district State of the art facilities Qualified teachers with a passion for the Arts Our marching band participated in the 2010 Toronto Santa Claus Parade For further information, please contact the Student Services Office at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School 705-494-8600 ext.3234 or www.npsc.ca The A An Invitation to Imagine New SJSH dance studio Opens September 2011 Express Yourself Through The Arts From dance to visual arts, from drama to music, we celebrate life through the arts. Inspire Create Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) In The Arts Dance Program Dance introduces students to the notion that movement is a medium of expression and the human body is an instrument. Dance transforms images, ideas, and feelings into movement sequences. Learning in dance requires a balance of knowledge, skills and attitudes, and embraces movement, creation and performance. Appreciation of dance expands students’ awareness of the richness of various cultures around the world. The study and practice of composition provide students with the essential building blocks that support lifelong interest in, appreciation of, and curiosity about dance. Join us in a new state of the art dance studio opening in September 2011. Visual Arts Program Visual arts include studio work and art appreciation. Within the visual arts courses, visual literacy expands into a broader perception – turning seeing into vision, translating reality into symbols and connections, and enhancing all other learning experiences. Learning in, about, and through visual arts helps students use their imagination and make creative choices to communicate their ideas, observations, feelings and values. Drama Program Drama study provides students with an opportunity to take on roles and to create and enter into imagined worlds. They learn in a unique way about themselves, the art of drama, and the world around them. Students engage in social interaction and collaboration as they create, perform, and analyze drama. The Bear’s Drama club produces musicals and full-length plays providing students with opportunities to act or work behind the stage. These productions are staged in our auditorium featuring digital LED lighting and sound. Music Program Music study is intended to develop students’ understanding and appreciation of music through a focus on practical skills and creative work. Students will find in music a source of enjoyment and personal satisfaction and will gain creative problem-solving skills, individual and cooperative connections to their communities and future careers. We offer a variety of programs including marching band, instrumental music, guitar and vocals. St. Joseph-Scollard Hall offers a Specialist High Skills Major (enhanced program) in the Arts.
