GUEST EDITOR Jennifer Hawkins A week in my world Jen gets cosy with one of the locals on Vomo, where she’s been modelling her new swimwear. spends a few days in paradise with the supermodel and learns how cleverly she blends business and fun I t is almost 10pm and a mini-cyclone has blown up in Fiji. Waves batter the beach, rain buckets down and palm trees dance like a bunch of teenagers at a rave party. It could almost be romantic, except that Aussie supermodel Jennifer Hawkins is stuck in the middle of the storm, in a small boat, in the pitch black of an angry Pacific Ocean. With no words of reassurance from the skipper, even the unflappable Fijians charged with welcoming the former Miss Universe start to look decidedly nervous. Then, just as everyone starts to fear the worst, Jen arrives, laughing off the near disaster and looking a million dollars, despite rain flattening her famous blonde mane. “What fun!” she says. Jen, 25, is on Fiji’s Vomo Island for a three-day shoot to promote her second collection of signature swimwear, Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins, and not even a mini-cyclone will stop her. Her boyfriend, builder Jake Wall, is with her, taking 18 I womansday.ninemsn.com.au advantage of her time on this tiny island paradise to spend a few days together after the shoot. The couple have just one day to enjoy the balmy Fijian weather before Jen starts work on the shoot at the unforgiving time of 4am – to catch the best light of the day. When honeymooners and other holidaymakers wake up to breakfast, they are met with the vision of a supermodel in her bikini on the beach. “It’s a beautiful location,” really excited about.” Jen’s life has changed dramatically since she won Miss Universe five years ago, but her work ethic has, if anything, become stronger – particularly since she launched Cozi by Jennifer Hawkins last year. “I wanted to do something I could do creatively,” she explains. “This is obviously a business opportunity, but it’s also great fun and a way I was able to put my lifestyle into something I love – and the swimwear has got even better since last season.” Cozi is Jen’s baby – the only one on her mind for now – and she’s determined to make it the best swimwear brand in the world. “This season, I wanted something for everyone, and I took a much bigger role in the design process,” she says. The bikinis she models 12 hours a day for the next two days on Vomo come in many colours and patterns, and in a range of cuts designed to suit women of all shapes and sizes. Jen promises you don’t have to look like a model to look good in Cozi – exclusively distributed through Myer. “It depends on how you wear it,” explains Jen, who ‘With Cozi, I was able to put my lifestyle into something I love’ she says. “And I’m very lucky I have a team of people I work with all the time and they are all here to help me put the shoot together, which I’m even braves a few small reef sharks to model the swimwear in the ocean on day two. Cozi is the latest in a growing business empire that PICTURES: DAVID HAHN. PHILLIP KOCH IT’S NOT ALL WOR K includes multi million-dollar deals with Myer, Covergirl and Lovable, on top of a lucrative contract with the Seven Network which has seen her appear on The Great Outdoors and star in last year’s Make Me A Supermodel. These days, she is just as comfortable talking about high finance as she is high fashion. Jen owns shares in Myer and Lovable’s parent company, Gazal Corporation. She has also bought five properties, including a $3 million home in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. “I love having a lot of different things happening,” she says. “I want to stay in television, and I love my ambassadorial work with different companies. I have always wanted to build a brand for myself, and I’m building Cozi for the long term.” While she is clearly in love with Jake, there are no plans for the long-term couple to tie the knot in the near future. As for kids, she is more than happy for now to play aunty to Sienna, Holly and Cameron. “I’m busy, and it’s fun and I’m working hard,” she says. n’s e J beauty secrets The Aussie beauty queen shares her tips for a fresh, natural look $10.25, and I’m done. At night, I love to pump up my eyes a little by smudging some CoverGirl Perfect Blend Pencil in Brown/ Black, $12.95, on the eye and use CoverGirl LashBlast Mascara, $17.95, for my lashes.” WEAR SUNSCREEN “I’m very conscious of the sun, as I spend a lot of time outdoors. I always wear CoverGirl Smoothers SPF Tinted Moisturiser, $17.25, on my face and 30+ sun creams on my body.” PAMPER YOUR SKIN EAT WELL “I exfoliate my face and body and use masks as often as I can. For my body, I use Redwin moisturiser, as it contains both vitamin E and evening primrose oil and is inexpensive.” “I find when I’m eating healthy food, I’m level headed all day and my skin glows. I also drink at least 2 litres of water a day – it really makes a difference. There’s nothing wrong with a few vices. Mine are dark chocolate and coffee!” KEEP IT SIMPLE “When I’m not working, I keep my make-up pretty simple. I use CoverGirl’s TruBlend Microminerals, which comes in a foundation, blush and bronzer. I love the bronzer – it’s light and doesn’t clog your pores. I add a slick of CoverGirl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lipgloss in Strawbrry Splash, 1 BEAUTY FIND A SCENT YOU LOVE “I have a collection of perfumes. It’s something I got from my mum; she loves perfume. My favourite always changes. At the moment, it’s KENZO Amour Eau de Parfum in Orange, $165.” LOOK AFTER YOUR LOCKS “I have hair treatments regularly. I get the best result if I leave Terax Original Crema, $14.95, in my hair for 15 minutes, as it acts as a treatment. I love Klorane Oat Milk Dry Shampoo, $16.30, and to get ‘beach hair’, Wella Ocean Sprizz, $23, is brilliant! 2 MY E CHOIC 5 3 6 4 womansday.ninemsn.com.au I 76
