WELCOME In this current month of November we have started to close a further year of growth and progress for the Argentine rugby. This year we have realized our second participation in the Personal Rugby Championship and we are moving forward to our improvement, not only as regards our sport but also as an institution. The international window will be another opportunity to keep on supporting and strengthening the growth of our Pumas and, with them, all rugby across the country. We are now visiting our friends in England and Wales and we cannot miss the opportunity to go back to Italy, where we will meet the Pope Francisco I, a source of pride for any Argentine team. Feeling great sorrow but very much thankful for his devotion in his role as Head Coach, we say goodbye to Santiago Phelan, who left his position after six years. This new tour is a coming opportunity to renew energies and keep on supporting our system which has thrown good yields. That is the reason why we welcome Daniel Hourcade, who will be leading the team along this future which is starting right now. 3 UAR BOARD UNIÓN ARGENTINA DE RUGBY Founded in April 10th 1899 Dardo Rocha 2950, Martinez, Buenos Aires, B1640FTR ARGENTINA +54 (11) 4898-8500 Facebook: Facebook.com/unionargentina Twitter: @unionargentina Youtube: youtube.com/uarprensa Flickr: flickr.com/prensauar President Luis Francisco Castillo (Unión de Rugby de Tucumán) Vice president 1º Guillermo Quevedo (Unión Sanjuanina de Rugby) Vice president 2º Carlos Araujo (Unión de Rugby de Rosario) Secretary Marcelo Ambroggio (Unión Cordobesa de Rugby) Treasurer Carlos Barbieri (Unión de Rugby del Noreste) Board Members Manuel Galindo (Unión de Rugby de Tucumán) Néstor Galán (U.R.B.A.) Agustín Pichot (U.R.B.A) José Cilley (U.R.B.A.) Fernando Rizzi (Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires) Julio Clement (Unión Santafesina de Rugby) Tomás Petersen (Unión de Rugby de Lagos del Sur) Fernando Curet (Unión Santiagueña de Rugby) Santiago Galassi (Unión de Rugby del Noreste) Carlos Righi (Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires) Alejandro Cubelli (Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires) Marcelo Rodríguez (Unión Sanjuanina de Rugby) Jaime Barba (Unión Entrerriana de Rugby) 4 THE SQUAD 1 HORACIO AGULLA BATH R.F.U 2 PATRICIO ALBACETE STADE TOULOUSIAN F.F.R 3 GABRIEL ASCÁRATE GLASGOW WARRIORS S.R.U 4 MARCOS IVÁN AYERZA LEICESTER TIGERS R.F.U 5 MARCELO BOSCH SARACENS R.F.U 6 MAXIMILIANO BUSTOS MONTPELLIER HÉRAULT F.F.R 7 MANUEL CARIZZA WESTERN PROVINCE S.A.R.U 8 SANTIAGO CORDERO REGATAS DE BELLA VISTA URBA 9 AGUSTÍN CREEVY WORCESTER WARRIORS R.F.U 10 TOMÁS CUBELLI BELGRANO AHTLETIC URBA 11 MATÍAS DÍAZ OTAGO HIGHLANDERS N.Z.R.U 12 JULIO ALFREDO FARÍAS CABELLO TUCUMAN R. He developed at the Club Universitario, where he trained several junior teams and reached the Premier League, level in which he stayed for eight years. Then he moved to Huirapuca, another local team with which he managed to get two victories. While he was coaching these two clubs of his native city, Hourcade developed an extensive career as trainer of the U19 and U21 junior provincial teams of Tucuman, with whom he got the productive result of eight national tournaments. In addition, he also participated in the senior team of his province until 2004, leaving it at the top level. In 2001, as a result of his good performance with the junior teams of his province, Daniel took over the Argentine U21 team, with which he reached the third position in the Southern Hemisphere Tournament held in Australia. From 2001 and 2004, he coached the Argentine Sevens team for ten tournaments. On closing up this stage, Hourcade travelled to Portugal where he would leave deep marks in their rugby. In the Iberian country, he worked for the GD Direito and achieved eight victories during four years. His good performance as coach called the attention of the Rugby Federation of Portugal board members and he was incorporated to the coach staff for the Senior and Sevens NationalTeams. Together with Tomaz Morais, he took the Portuguese National team to a World Cup for the first time and only in France, 2007. Once his productive era ended in Portugal, he moved shortly to the Rouen, a team that belongs to the French First Federal League and then returned to Argentina in 2010. There he was appointed as coach of the Jaguars, the second Argentine team, next to Mauricio Reggiardo, with the aim of increasing the player base for the Pumas. With the Jaguars, Hourcade won the three Americas Rugby Championships in which he participated (2010, 2012 and 2013). In his second year as coach of this team, he won the Vodacom Cup (team under the name of Pampas XV), developing many of the players that would later on jump forward to be part of the Pumas squad that played the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand. Throughout his relationship with the UAR, Hourcade worked close to Santiago Phelan and all his staff in the preparation of the Senior squad and, during last June, just before the match against Georgia in San Juan, he worked directly with the senior team. 12 PROFILES AGULLA, HORACIO Age: 28 Tests: 48 Points: 20 Full Name: Horacio Agulla Weight & Height: 92 Kg 1.81 m. At the beginning of the 2007/08 season, Horacio left his beloved club, Hindu, and turned to gaining playing experience in the French rugby. That gave him the possibility to be taken into account for the major teams and continue his rugby career in France. This former Belgrano Athletic player can take the fly half or centre position. His variety of options opened the doors of the Biarritz Olympique, team which enjoys his great feet skills and excellent handling. Marcelo made his debut with the Pumas in 2007, when Italy was touring around Argentina. Unfortunately, some injuries did not allow him to be considered by the national coaches, but eventually he was fully recovered and played the 2011 RWC in New Zealand, where he was one of the key players. Manuel was part of the special training sessions for the 2007 Rugby World Cup, but unfortunately he was not shortlisted for the final 30-men squad. In 2011, he played against the French Barbarians and again showed his great skills, which led him directly to the World Cup in New Zealand. During the first participation in the Personal Rugby Championship, Manuel was part of the starting XV in the six tournament matches and he got hold of the second row position which he kept through the end-of-year tour of Europe. He played in the June window as well as in two test matches of the European tour at the end of 2012 against Wales and France. Joaquín counts with the versatility to play in any position in the backs’ line. Thanks to his experience and performance with the Pumas 7s and Pampas XV, with whom he won the Vodacom Cup in 2011, the player from the city of La Plata perfected his daring and broad playing style which led him to sign contract with the mighty Sale Sharks from England and later with the French Grenoble.
