Summer Is Here!
The teachers at Ayako School of Ballet are very much looking forward to practicing with so many of you this
summer. After a brief Summer Recess, classes will begin again on Tuesday, July 5th. In the first 2 weeks of
August, you will have the opportunity to join us for our August Intensive - more information about the August
Intensive is below.
In this summer newsletter, we would like to highlight some of the competitions that ASB takes part in. A
healthy part of dance is the art of competition, and we enthusiastically encourage all who are interested to
join us on stage at some of the many dance competitions that come to the Bay Area and beyond.
Thank you for another wonderful year, I have enjoyed it so much. We look forward to seeing everyone
around the studio this summer!

Competition
Competition is an extremely fun and rewarding aspect of dance with benefits that stretch far beyond what
some may think.
~ Practice Makes Perfect ~
We all know that you will become better at something if you practice. A considerable amount of time is involved preparing for, practicing, and dancing in a competition. The time spent refining dance skills is extremely valuable to any dancer of any level.
Dancing in front of an audience can sometimes be intimidating, but the more times a dancer performs on
stage, the more comfortable he or she becomes. Dancers can take this confidence outside of the dance
studio to their family, school, and social life.
Confidence ~ Happiness ~ Energy
The social aspect of competition is by far the most fun! We dance as locally as San Mateo, and plan on attending a competition this summer in beautiful Lake Tahoe. The relationships our dancers build while supporting each other, and the quality times spent with friends during competitions, are priceless.
~ The Joy of Dancing ~
Each January the parents at ASB get together and, based on location and general interest, decide which
local competitions we will participate in. Please keep this in mind, as we will announce the start of competition season next year and would love to hear your input and see new faces join us!
Listed below are the competitions that ASB has participated in so far this year. We are so proud of all of
our dancers, teachers and choreographers for their huge achievements.
