Clarkson’s ability to drive continuous improvement in a constantly changing and competitive environment has set the benchmark for the way AFL football is coached and played today. Clarkson was appointed in 2005 to rebuild the Hawthorn Football Club and he was prepared to make tough and necessary changes, like many in in the aged care industry are required to do on a daily basis. In an extremely competitive industry, winning is the only indicator of success, and so, the club climbed its way back up the ladder to win the 2013 premiership. In 2014, Clarkson was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Disease, but the resilient Clarkson returned mid-season and coached Hawthorn to win back to back premierships. Alastair’s opening keynote presentation will inspire delegates with a clear and motivating message of substance; how we as industry leaders need to continually evolve and evaluate to overcome challenge and adversity, and in turn, transpire knowledge and experience into a successful winning formula. 16.10–16.55 Keynote Presentation: Live What You Love A Life Filled with Passion and Purpose – Naomi Simson, Founder, RedBalloon Sponsored by The increasing pace of life is no more evident than in our world of aged care. Whether it be at our work or home, time is our most precious asset – we are all given only 24 hours a day and it is how we choose to spend those precious seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks that will ultimately determine our sense of wellbeing, or success. Delegates will be owning their destiny as Naomi shows them how to put significance back into their work, identify and discover their passions, learn about positivity in the challenging world of aged care and be persistent during ever-changing tough times. When you are faced with having to take on bigger challenges, in actual fact you could be allowing yourself to experience the joy of deep accomplishment. Committed to making the world a better place, Naomi’s touching presentation will move and inspire, and hold true to aged care whose dedicated workers must make powerful choices every day in order to live a life that they love, while supporting older Australians to do so also. 16.55–17.00 Welcome Reception Sponsor Address by Stephen Pratt, Prime Super 17.00–19.00 Welcome Reception, Sponsored by Prime Super Exhibition Bays 11, 12 & 13 MONDAY 12 OCTOBER 2015 07.00–18.30 Registration Open Concourse Area 3, Exhibition Centre 07.15–08.30 LASA Member Breakfast Session (Optional) Latest Insights: What’s Happening with Mergers and Acquisitions Room Meeting Room 219, Level 2 Meeting Room 218, Level 2 Chair Patrick Reid, Leading Age Services Australia Trevor Carr, Leading Age Services Australia - Victoria Paris Petranis, K&L Gates, Tony Bridge, Bridge Advisory Group, Fabio Maya, Sapphire Care, Sam Bowen, Commonwealth Bank, Cameron Ziebell, Commonwealth Bank & Andrew Sudholz, Japara Rhod Ellis-Jones, Ellis-Jones, Helen Steel, Shared Value Project, Sandra Hills, Benetas, Dan Woods, RDNS Group & Kerry Jones, TACSI Tickets available at the Registration desk $40 each Sponsored by Merger and acquisition activity has been at unprecedented levels in the aged care sector in the last 18 months. Join a panel of experienced practitioners comprising: an aged care provider; a financier; a commercial advisor; and a lawyer, all with extensive experience specifically in the aged care sector, as they provide a solid basis on current merger and acquisition activity and what they and their organisations need to do to ensure they maximise opportunities and are not left behind. LASA Member Breakfast Session (Optional) Unleashing Innovation in the CDC Era – Redefining Community Partnerships to Co-create Services, Grow Revenue and Improve Outcomes in a CDC Market Aged care providers have always enjoyed high degrees of trust among clients, family members and the broader community. Now that consumers are keenly assessing differences in services and pursuing value for money, providers need to define their value proposition, community by community. Fortunately, aged care is very much part of local community identity. Local people want to be asked their opinion; to co-create tomorrow’s aged services. The best providers are investing in consumer engagement and insights to find new areas for service delivery, achieving better outcomes for care recipients and families while diversifying and broadening revenue. Join Rhod Ellis-Jones and panellists as they share stories from the field and explore community identity, the role of the aged care provider, the evolving product and service mix, and approaches to co-design. But what many don’t know is that between 80 and 95% of organisation’s don’t even know what their strategy is, regardless of how good it may be. This presentation will highlight some of the reasons why communicating strategy fails and, most importantly, you will see how strategy can be converted into a co-designed story that can be told and retold, so everyone knows what you as the organisation is trying to achieve. 09.25–10.25 Protecting & Respecting Older Australians: Say No to Elder Abuse Panel Sponsored by Facilitator: Geraldine Doogue, Journalist & Broadcaster Panellists: Professor S. Caroline Taylor AM, Founder, Children of Phoenix Danny Blay, Policy Advisor and Trainer, Preventing Family Violence and Violence Against Women and Children Hetty Johnston AM, Founder and CEO, Bravehearts Inc. Dr Catherine Barrett, Chief Investigator/Coordinator, Sexual Health and Ageing Program, Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health & Society, La Trobe University Lara Hansen, Technical Manager, Aged Care Steps Gerard Mansour, Commissioner for Senior Victorians Aged care services are an integral part of local community infrastructure and service. The work we do is critically important to the wellbeing of communities and families; and we do this work in concert with clients and their families. Family Violence comes in many shapes and forms – as an important stakeholder in community wellbeing and family health, the aged care provider needs to understand how to recognise violence and how to protect and empower the vulnerable – most often older female members of our community. How do we as Providers help people living in dysfunctional settings, understand that they have choices; that abuse and violence is wrong; and that Providers can assist people to take the first steps to securing safer living arrangements? With over 1000 delegates in the room; the frightening statistics are that 1 in 4 women are being abused behind closed doors. This is our opportunity to shine the light into a sometimes dark and uncomfortable place – to say enough is enough – domestic abuse and violence is not a domestic issue – it is a community issue that needs to be embraced as an epidemic across Australia the impacts all socioeconomic households and all ages. 10.25–10.30 Congress Gala Dinner Sponsor Address by Neil Saxton, HESTA 10.30–11.00 Morning Tea Exhibition Bays 11, 12 & 13 Concurrent Sessions .
