We were able to offer Christmas Cactus this year which were very popular and which we hope to be able to offer again this coming year. As always, our sale runs the week after Thanksgiving at PeaceHealth Hospital, Fairway Village, Touchmark, Legacy Hospital and the Shared Services Building on 164th Street . On August 29th, Macy’s was a little busier thanks to the efforts of the volunteers of Friends of Hospice, SW. This nationwide effort raises over $47 Million for charitable organizations. For just $5.00, shoppers could purchase an opportunity to save 25% off almost all merchandise and also play a role in supporting a worthy cause. There was also a drawing for a $500 shopping spree which our own organization’s President Deb Iverson won! A big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in this fundraising event either by working on the set-up or by purchasing plants. This event is only successful because of all of you! The only stipulation is that the amount given must be at least $10.00 and of course there is no limit! We were very happy to get a large donation through the Community Foundation of SW Washington from a single donor. We will enroll in this great event again this coming September so check our website for the date: www.friendsof-hospice.org. Over twelve committed Friends of Hospice, SW volunteers rallied at Hazel Dell Car Wash to encourage passerbys to motor in to get their car washed and help raise donations for this wonderful organization. This event raised over $350, another step closer to helping a hospice patient or family member in need. Membership Drive Paula Palmer We all loved and admired Paula; she was the example of what we all aspire to be within the Friends of Hospice Southwest Washington organization. We will ALL miss her. Your gift of Paula’s 20 year pin as a volunteer for Friends of Hosice, moved the entire membership meeting on April 18th. It was such an unselfish gesture on your part. I know that you have also given hundreds of hours of your own time. The entire organization has frequently sung our praises for both you and Paula’s involvement and dedication throughout the years. “Good people are never forgotten”. As the current 2016 President, I proudly accept your gift; I will wear Paula’s pin at all F.O.H. meetings and to all other community functions that I attend representing F.O.H. It is always important for an organization to get new members. New members bring new energy, new ideas and new friendships that helps sustain the vitality of an organization. This year we made a special effort to get new members. We formed a committee, asking our membership for names of potential people that might be intersted in joining Friends of Hospice and be active in the fundraisers and activities, without feeling pressured. We mailed out many letters and received twenty new members from our Membership Drive. The Membership Committee put together two tables for new members at the Annual Friends of Hospice Luncheon. This was very successful and well received by the new members. We are looking forward to working with our new members on our fundraisers and hopefully keep growing our membership. 20 Years Pin “Paula’s Pin” Next January, I will present Paula’s pin to the incoming 2017 President. This new tradition will be carried on year after year. We wall discussed that wearing Paula’s pin will be considered a huge honor. Paula’s pin has been placed in the right hands. With love and appreciation, Debbie Iverson, 2016 President, Friends of Hospice Southwest Washington. 6/13/2016 8:39:26 AM
