Elfin Sports Cars Pty Ltd was founded by Garrie
Cooper in 1957 and was the oldest continuous
manufacturer of sports cars and motor racing cars
in Australia.
Elfin was Australia’s most successful constructor with 29
championships and major titles including two Australian
Drivers’ Championships, four Australian Sports Car
Championships, three Australian Tourist Trophies and
four Formula Ford titles, the Singapore Grand Prix (1968)
and twice won the Malaysian Grand Prix.
The previous factory was located at Conmurra
Avenue, Edwardstown in suburban Adelaide, South
Australia building over 245 cars.
Drivers of Elfin cars included World Formula One
Champion, James Hunt and French Formula One
driver, Didier Pironi. Others were Vern Schuppan,
Larry Perkins, John Bowe, Frank Matich, John
McCormack, John Walker, Bob Jane, John Harvey,
Allan Grice and Peter Manton.
At the 2014 Clipsal 500 Adelaide event you’ll have the
opportunity to see a cross section of these famous
highly desirable race cars.
This is an opportunity for students to explore and
learn more about the history of a successful South
Australian who made a huge contribution to the
development of sports cars and motor racing in the
Australia. Discover the numerous ways Elfin Sports
Cars Pty Ltd has influenced the Clipsal 500 Adelaide.
New Holland Tractor Pull National Championships
Highly modified, high-octane, diesel spewing, dirt
dispensing, merchants of muscle do battle in the 6th
round of the Australian Tractor Pull Championships.

These competition tractors don’t have much
resemblance to a normal farm tractor. They use
super-charged car engines or even gas turbine
engines with thousands of available horsepower they could probably pull an Air Force Hornet fighter
along the track if they had to!
The Tractor Pull display presents an opportunity to
design a device that can be used to rate a tractor’s
ability to pull or investigate the physics behind the
theory.
Thursday times for the 6th round of the Australian
Tractor Pull National Championships are:
10.00am - 11.00am

Ezy Plates Route 66
The American muscle and luxury cars from the Route
66 era that drove the famous stretch of road from
Chicago to Los Angeles will be on display at the 2014
Clipsal 500.

Get up close to over 50 of the best with Chevrolet,
Pontiac, Ford, and Cadillac plus the moves that
groove from Rock and Roll dancers and memories
galore with the Coca Cola memorabilia display.
This is an opportunity to travel through American
motoring history and map out the significance of
the geography of Route 66. Students could learn
about the Rock n Roll dancing from the 1950’s and
1960’s. As part of your ‘Persuasive Text’ unit of work,
challenge your students to identify the marketing
and advertising techniques from the Coca Cola
Memorabilia display.
V8 Supercars Paddock
Get up close and see the V8 Supercars teams
working on their V8 Supercars preparing for the
weekend of racing!

Students will witness different brands of cars, drivers,
teams and sponsorship. Did you know these powerful
machines can reach speeds of 298kph, weigh an
amazing 1400kgs and on a hot day, drivers could face
temperatures of up to 60 degrees inside the car?
This is an opportunity to explore the science of
fuel, the engineering behind the large temporary
facilities and understand the impacts of motorsport
on the body.

A hive of activity at the GoPro TrAction Zone, check out the Porsche Kids Driving School, Honda Motorcycle Junior
GP, ShowTime FMX, Matt Mingay and the Stuntz Inc team.
The GoPro Traction Zone holds the Porsche Kids Driving School and the all new Honda Motorcycle Junior GP.
These interactive activities are good opportunities to highlight safety and caution in all areas of motorsport as
well as everyday road safety.
Porsche Kids Driving School
Honda Motorcycle Junior GP
The Porsche Kids Driving School is free and is
designed to teach children about the theory of standard
road rules and provide the opportunity to test their
new knowledge in a Porsche Pedal Car. Classes run
for approximately 40 minutes each with a 15 minute
theory session in a classroom marquee followed
by registration and approximately 20 minutes of
supervised practice.
The Honda Motorcycle Junior GP allows children to
learn the basics of motorcycle riding. Supplied with full
safety gear, children will be provided with instructions
and permitted 20 minute sessions with a maximum
of six children on the purpose built track at one time.
Children will ride the Honda CRF50F bikes with singleshock rear suspension, inverted fork and bulletproof
four-stroke 49cc engines.
The Honda Motorcycle Junior GP is open to children
who meet the following criteria:
• Due to the motorcycle manufacturers’ specifications,
are under the maximum weight limit of 40kg.
• Are between 5 and 10 years of age
• Accompanied by their parent or guardian during the
experience. The parent or guardian is responsible for
the child at all times.
The average age of children able to participate is 5-9
years, however this is dependent on height and if they
will be able to fit into the pedal cars. A height scale is
used to determine this at registration.
Showtime FMX
Showtime FMX
Showtime FMX team are back again with their
gravity defying stunts in the TrAction Zone. Their fully
choreographed performances include Australia’s top
freestyle Moto X performers jumping dirt bikes 80 feet
ramp to ramp and reaching heights of over 45 feet.

Matt Mingay and the Stuntz Inc team are Australia’s
Number 1 Stunt Team and voted best on track
entertainment. Matt and his boys will be performing
on track at the Clipsal 500 Adelaide on their stunt road
bikes. They will be setup in the GoPro TrAction Zone all
weekend so make sure you stop in to check them out.

Make sure you head to the Concert Oval and reserve your spot to see
the special lunchtime concert featuring The Potbelleez and Sheppard.
Come and meet the characters of the 2014 Australian V8 Ute Racing
Series. Back-to-back champion Ryal “The Kid” Harris, Kim “The
Assassin” Jane, Rhys “Stormin” McNally and your local favourite, Craig
“Thirsty” Dontas are just a few of our Ford and Holden drivers who will
be on hand at the V8 Utes 14th appearance at the Clipsal 500.

Australian Defence Oval
The ADF Oval will again offer the chance to get up
close and personal with military equipment
and personnel.

Armygeddon will be on display.
• Step into the special Woomera Test Range
‘command bunker’ and see just what it is like to
launch a Hifire hypersonic rocket into space or
an air-to-ground missile from an Air Force
Hornet fighter.
• Other Defence Force Oval displays will feature
state-of-the-art military technology such
as night-vision equipment, aviation training
simulators and aircrew equipment as well as
Defence Force Recruiting.
• South Australia’s Army units 16 Air Land
Regiment and 1st Brigade will have the new
Mercedes G-Wagon maintenance vehicle and an
armoured personnel carrier as well as the RBS70
surface-to-air missile system on display for
motorsport fans.
• As always, Defence Force personnel will be on
hand to show kids of all ages the equipment they
use and talk about their experiences in serving
Australia both here and overseas.
