SENIOR WALKS: EXPLORING MARIN’S CONSERVATION HISTORY ON FOOT Presented by Marin Conservation League, in association with Marin County Parks. Marin Conservation League welcomes you to Walks into Conservation History of Marin County. In this program, which is designed for senior walkers and is free, we visit some of the special lands in Marin that have been acquired over many years for people to enjoy and to protect the plants and wildlife that inhabit them. Each has trails to walk and stories to tell. Our focus is on the County’s Open Space Preserves, but we will visit other public lands. We transport you by van, take leisurely walks on easy trails, tell stories about the lands and how they were conserved, introduce you to the plants and wildlife, and enjoy a light snack. The current program features two walks in 2016 and continues Indian Valley Open Space Preserve with four walks in 2017. There are numerous trails that offer loop hikes, mostly through shaded forests of oak and bay trees. Our walk will offer 1 and 2 mile options, both mostly level with gentle slopes. No longer a true island, this preserve of 154 acres rises above the eastern edge of Novato from an area that was once part of the extensive wetlands in the Petaluma River Delta. This walk is a 1.8 mile loop, and is mostly level with gentle slopes.
