Alastair Moock - the Discovery Theater!
Discovery Theater has presented live educational performances at
the Smithsonian to young people throughout the Washington,
D.C., area and beyond since 1979. With programs that enrich the
Smithsonian experience for nearly 50,000 children annually, Discovery Theater is a gateway to the exhibits, collections, and themes
contained in the museums and galleries on the National Mall and
in our community. There’s so much to do and explore at the
Smithsonian—and Discovery Theater is the ideal place to begin!

ABOUT THE ARTIST
TRY IT AT HOME
Your toddler learns a lot from movement and music. Help them make some
instruments using household objects so they can dance and sing!
.
Alastair Moock is a 2014 Grammy Nominee,
Parents' Choice Gold Medal Winner, and
three-time National Parenting Publications
Awards (NAPPA) Gold Medal Winner. One of
Boston’s premier folk artists, Alastair turned
his attention to family music after the birth of
his twin daughters in 2006.
"Moock’s wonderful knack for filling catchy
ditties with humorous lyrics will bring a smile
to your face." - National Parenting
Publications Awards (NAPPA)
In July, 2013, Alastair released Singing Our Way Through: Songs for the
World's Bravest Kids, an album which grew out of songs co-written with his
daughter after she was diagnosed with leukemia in 2012 (she's doing
great). Since its release, he’s already distributed digital and hard copies of
Singing Our Way Through to nearly 1,500 patient families at hospitals, clinics, and patient camps around the country.
Jingle Bell Roller
Materials: an empty coffee can with lid and jingle bells or metal jar lids
1. Put bells or metal jar lids inside the empty coffee can. Securely glue or tape the
plastic lid onto the coffee can.
2. Decorate the outside of the coffee can
3. Have fun shaking the can or rolling it across the floor.
Easter Egg Maracas
Materials: Small plastic Easter eggs; Pennies, dried beans,
small rocks, popcorn kernels, beads, etc.; glue gun; and an
empty egg carton.
1. Gather a variety of items to fill the plastic Easter eggs.
2. Fill each egg with a different substance and securely glue
the two pieces of the egg together.
3. Store in an egg carton. Toddlers will enjoy taking the eggs in and out of the carton and shaking them to hear the different sounds they make.
.
TIP: For an older child, fill two eggs with each substance. Then, have them match
up the pairs by listening to the sounds they make.
