DECEMBER 20, 2015
A message from our Pastor:
Dear Parishioners,
On behalf of the entire staff here at Holy Spirit,
please accept my best wishes for a very Merry
Christmas. It is our sincere prayer that the coming
this week of the Christ child fills your hearts and
homes with abundant blessings of love and peace.
In the chaos of the upcoming few days, please
try to take a few moments to step back from it all
and let Jesus touch your soul with the full meaning
of this wonderful mystery about to unfold before
us; God becoming one like us so that we could
become more like Him!
O Lord of hosts, look down from heaven and see; take
care of this vine, and protect what your right hand
has planted.

Is there anything more heart melting than the
fact of a very young child upon seeing his first
Christmas tree? It is that same sense of awe,
wonder, and joy that should fill the presence of our
Lord in the world. Approach these days with that
same child-like spirit. Allow yourself to be
enveloped by His love and truly Christmas will be
a day to celebrate, not just endure.
On a practical note, the schedule for Masses on
Christmas Eve and Day is printed in this bulletin.
Please take two keep one for yourselves and give
one to someone who would benefit from it.
Finally, may I beg you, at this giving time of
year, to please consider making a truly sacrificial
offering to your church in the upcoming Christmas
Collection. We are all well aware of how
expensive life has gotten, yet so many people are
making the same weekly offering that they have
been giving for years. Your church also has
expenses to meet, so please, do something extra
special for your parish this year. God will bless
you always for it.
Fr. Armand

the Quadriplegic Center as well as a Christmas

were involved in these projects. God Bless them
all!

Oplatek: Many parishioners of Holy Spirit are
of Polish ancestry and keep the tradition of
sharing the “oplatek”, the most ancient and
beloved of all Polish traditions. Oplatek is a thin
wafer made of flour and water, similar in taste to
the hosts that are used for communion during
Mass. The Christmas wafer is shared before
Wigilia, the Christmas Eve supper. The head of
the household usually starts by breaking the
wafer with his wife and then continues to share it
with everyone at the Wigilia table. Wishes for
peace and prosperity are exchanged.
If you are interested in purchasing oplatek for
your family this Christmas Eve, please notify
he Parish Office at 908-687-3327. There may
still be some left for purchase. The Cost is
$5.00 per pack

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) is “a gradual process that takes place
within the community of the faithful.” The length
of time of the process varies according to individual need, experience, readiness and commitment. If you, or someone you know is interested
in more information, please call Cathy Drake at
the Office of Religious Education at (908) 9647533.
~~~also~~~
If you are not a Catholic, but attracted to the
Catholic Church, or a Catholic needing to complete your Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist or
Confirmation), this is a time set aside for asking
questions and exploring God’s call in an informal
setting. There are no commitments or obligations required, only questions answered and information shared. Again, call Cathy Drake at
(908) 964-7533.
NATIVITY PAGEANT:
All parishioners are invited to attend the Nativity
Pageant on Christmas Eve. Children of the Parish
will re-enact that Gospel story. The Spirit Singers
will begin at 5 o’clock and the Pageant will begin
at 5:15. Mass will begin at 5:30. As a courtesy to
all involved, we request that all parishioners be in
their seats by 5 o’clock.
Bambino Blessing!
This was such a success last year, we are going to repeat it again this year!
Today, everyone is invited to bring the Baby Jesus from their own home Nativity Set to be
blessed after all of the Masses. This is a wonderful way to make final preparations in your
homes for our Lord’s Birthday, as well as to teach your children that the Nativity Set is not
just another toy.
All Baby Jesus statues are welcome, the blessing will take place just prior to the final hymn
at Mass.
