Company’s vision and innovation paves the way for sustainable growth
Tuss Group is a privately owned Western
Australian company delivering a diverse
range of capabilities within the civil
concrete and construction industry for
clients in the mining, oil and gas, utilities,
defence, commercial, industrial and
infrastructure sectors across the state.
Company Director Phil Jack said since 2003,
Tuss Group had experienced continued
growth through the delivery of quality, safe
and reliable services and products.
“This sustainable growth has enabled us to
retain our key assets – our people,” he said.
“Tuss Group is now in a position to offer
quality and strength with individual and
collective experience and capability beyond
that of most of our competitors.
“Our business is structured in four core
divisions driven by the needs of our
specialist and growing markets: civil,
precast, construction and concrete supply.
“These disciplines are offered individually
or alternatively combined as a synergistic
package.”
Mr Jack said Tuss Group’s vision was to
become the provider of choice, by building
and maintaining trusting relationships and
continuing to offer world-class ‘value for
money’ concreting solutions.
This has earned Tuss Group six Golden
Trowel awards for the world’s flattest
floors, setting a new world record in 2014.
The Golden Trowel is the most coveted
and prestigious award in the concrete
construction industry.
To complement this success and innovation,
Tuss Group recently introduced its new
Somero three-dimensional (3D) profiler
system.
WA’s first 3D laser screed is a system which
allows for automatic, accurate paving of all
contoured sites.

2016 PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE IN BUILDING AWARDS
Challenging CBD project produces efficient build for the client
Priding itself on providing brilliant thinking,
genuine partnerships and incredible
workmanship, PACT Construction was
recognised for its work at this year’s AIB
Professional Excellence in Building Awards.
The team at PACT Construction successfully
completed one of its largest projects to date
at 999 Hay Street, Perth – QUBE’s largest
office project.
The 11-storey, 13,000sqm, A-grade
office project was awarded a Professional
Excellence Award in the Commercial
Construction $10 million to $50 million
category.
PACT Construction General Manager Jason
Kunkler said the company secured the
project thanks to its strong 11-year working
relationship with QUBE.
PACT Construction’s finished project at
999 Hay Street, Perth.
“Being engaged from an early stage enabled
us to add value from the outset,” he said.
“For this development we looked at a number
of cost-effective structural design solutions
to get the most efficient build for the client.
rating and 4.5-star NABERS rating.
“The facade is certainly striking and was quite
a challenge to complete, incorporating fullheight curtain wall glazing with an ellipticalshaped glass and composite aluminium
clad feature with pocketed elements for
balconies.”
It comprises 10 open-plan office floors, a
rooftop boardroom, entertainment deck,
multiple balconies and a cafe at ground level.
Another challenge in the project was the
difficult location, with busy Hay Street and
one-way Elder Street posing a few problems.
“It is an outstanding achievement that
showcases the possibilities of PACT’s whole
project approach and focus on collaborative
project and construction management,” Mr
Kunkler said.
“The need to demolish one side of an adjacent
building on the eastern elevation of the
project provided some challenges coming out
of the ground,” Mr Kunkler said.
“Along with this we had to navigate our way
through a myriad of in-ground services,
including high-pressure gas, water, electricity,
fibre optics, old copper telecommunication
cabling, storm water drains and more.”
The building was specially designed to
deliver key environmental sustainability
features including a five-star Green Star
The team from PACT Construction were
extremely happy to collect their award.
Industry body ensures its members’ efforts are recognised

companies in Australia.
AIB Chief Executive Officer Greg Hughes
said the Professional Excellence in Building
Awards recognised a number of companies
and individuals for their contributions and
successful projects at state and territory
level.
“It is important for us to recognise and value
the contribution that building practitioners
make to the economy and our everyday lives,
after all the fruits of their efforts is evident
in the infrastructure and built-environment
that we utilise, enjoy and rely upon every
day,” he said. “I look to actively promote the
practice of building as a profession and to
ensure that the professionalism and goodstanding of our members is highly valued and
appreciated in our industry and society.”
