TECHNICAL OPERATIONS
We recommend continuous hands-on monitoring of the broadcast. In the event
of a rain-delay, MRN will send programming back to local stations.
LIVE EVENT BOARD-OP INFORMATION
A) Time Checks – Prior to all live event and pre-produced program feeds, MRN
will count down to the broadcast with a time check. Time checks for, NASCAR
Sprint Cup Series events, NASCAR Nationwide Series events, NASCAR
Camping World Truck Series events, TUDOR United SportsCar Championship
events, “NASCAR LIVE”, MRN 360, and NASCAR U.S.A. will be ten (10) minutes
in length. Time checks for all other feeds (NASCAR TODAY, Monday Morning
Race Refresher, Ned Jarrett’s “World of Racing”, etc) will be five (5) minutes in
length.
B) Local Commercial Breaks and Cues - Every MRN live event has a specific
number of local commercial breaks. Most commercial sets include a sixty (60)
second network break followed by a brief description of on-track activity, your
local commercial cue, and then a seventy (70) second local commercial break.
All local commercial breaks are seventy (70) seconds in length allowing you sixty
(60) seconds for local spots plus a ten (10) second station rejoin liner. Since
each race event varies in length, so do the number of local commercial breaks.
Please refer to your event specific format/cue sheet for the exact number of local
commercial breaks scheduled for that event. Your format/cue sheet will also list
the local commercial cue. Upon hearing that cue, your seventy (70) second local
break begins. In the event you do not have enough inventory scheduled to air,
MRN will always fill the local commercial breaks with audio for sixty (60)
seconds. **Please note** MRN does not fill the additional ten (10) seconds
allotted for the station rejoin liner. Local commercial breaks may be automated.
C) Bonus Commercial Breaks - In some cases a race broadcast may exceed
the original allotted time. In the event of an extended broadcast, MRN will insert
additional network and local breaks. You may use this time to manually insert
additional local inventory. In the event you do not have additional local spots
scheduled or wish not to fill your local bonus time, MRN will always fill the local
commercial breaks with audio for sixty (60) seconds. **Please Note** MRN will fill
the additional ten (10) seconds allotted for the station rejoin liner with a NASCAR
driver liner ONLY DURING LOCAL BONUS COMMERCIAL BREAKS. MRN
does not utilize Relay Closures or Netcues for local bonus commercial
breaks so as not to impede scheduled automation.
Motor Racing Network Radio Partner Operations Guide
Page 4-1
LIVE EVENT BOARD-OP INFORMATION, continued:
D) Station I.D. – At or near the top of every hour that occurs during a live event
broadcast, MRN will allow ten (10) seconds for legal station identification with the
following cues: “LET’S PAUSE TEN SECONDS FOR STATION
IDENTIFICATION ON THE MOTOR RACING NETWORK” for live events,
“LET’S PAUSE ON NASCAR USA FOR STATION IDENTIFICATION” for
NASCAR U.S.A. You should insert your station’s legal identification. Station
I.D.’s may be automated.
E) Final Cue – At the end of every live event broadcast, MRN will provide a final
cue signaling the conclusion of our broadcast. Please refer to your event specific
format/cue sheet for your final cue. Final Cues may be automated.

LIVE EVENT BROADCAST
AUTOMATION INFORMATION
Motor Racing Network will feed WestwoodOne Wegener i6420 closures to
radio partner stations for all live event broadcasts. We will provide closures and
Netcues for broadcast start, station billboard, local commercial break, station I.D.,
and broadcast end. In the event of a rain delay we will provide rain delay
breakaway and rain delay rejoin closures that will alert your system to send
programming back to your station and then bring it back to the network at the
appointed time.
COORDINATES
Satellite: AMC-8/139 DEGREES WEST, TRANSPONDER 23

*Due to possible live event schedule conflicts, some events may be moved to
secondary coordinates. In this event your format/cue sheets will reflect this
change and MRN will email notification to your station. ALWAYS check satellite

Installation Steps:
Here is the step-by-step process to get your i6420 receiver online and
receiving your programming from WestwoodOne.
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
Connect the receiver to your satellite dish.
Verify your dish alignment and signal quality by looking at the
Eb/No (Should be 9.0 or higher) and RF Level (Should be
above 20 and less than 60)
Move your audio from your Starguide receiver to the AUDIO 1
output port on the receiver.
Move your relay connections from the Starguide receiver to
the RELAY 1 outputs on the receiver… Please note the relay
assignments are different on this receiver than the Starguide.
The conversion chart is shown below.
Connect the receiver to your station’s LAN. If the LAN is
behind a firewall, please use the LAN port. If there is no
firewall between the receiver and the public Internet use the
WAN port. Finally if your station doesn’t have a dedicated
internet connection you can connect the MODEM jack to a
normal phone line. The receiver can share the line with a fax
or other device. The LAN/WAN or phone line connections are
necessary to make the receiver work correctly. Because of
this we regret that we are unable to authorize receivers that
are not connected with this “return path”.
Once the connections are made please contact WestwoodOne
Network Operations at (720) 873-5177 for authorization.
Remember, we’re standing by to help you… Call (888) 435-7450.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Event Postponement
In the event of inclement weather at the track, NASCAR makes every effort to complete
a race on its scheduled day. However, a race may be postponed by NASCAR and
rescheduled on the first available day with favorable weather conditions. If, for example,
a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is scheduled for Sunday and has to be postponed
due to inclement weather, it may be rescheduled for the next day (Monday) or even
Tuesday. Again, this is solely determined by NASCAR with the idea of completing the
event on the first raceable day. Please refer to Paragraph 11 of your MRN Broadcast
Agreement for clarification regarding your obligation to air a rescheduled,
postponed or suspended event broadcast.
Rain Delay
In the event of a rain delay Motor Racing Network will come on the air as scheduled to
inform listeners. However, we will not stay with the broadcast for extended periods of
time. Instead we will send programming back to local stations in order to allow you to
fulfill local sponsor commitments. Broadcast delay information will be shared over the
air in order to keep your listeners up to date on when the broadcast will resume. Please
refer to your event specific format/cue sheet for additional rain delay procedures.
Sun Transit Outages
Please be aware that every Spring and Fall you may experience Sun Transit Outages.
Sun transit outage, or sun fade, is caused by the increased noise received by the
downlink when the sun aligns with the satellite and the downlink antenna. While nothing
can be done to prevent this phenomenon, which affects all geostationary satellites,
MRN will keep you informed with regards to geographical areas that may be affected
and MRN satellite feed times that may be rescheduled or repeated. We hope the effect
of this force of nature on your satellite reception is minimal. Outage times will vary with
the characteristics of your receive antenna.
Receiver Issues During an Event
If you experience receiver issues during a broadcast call WestwoodOne Technical
Operations at (720) 873-5177. They will be able to offer you an ISDN line until your
technical problems are solved.

Motor Racing Network will make available, at your request, all logos approved for
use by affiliate stations for the purpose of promotional materials, billboards,
television campaigns, station vehicles, etc. Please note, affiliate stations do not
have the right to use the NASCAR “bar” logo by itself. These rights must be
secured through NASCAR. However, you are granted the right to use the Motor
Racing Network “THE VOICE OF NASCAR” logo, as pictured below, in
conjunction with your station logo.
THIS LOGO IS TO BE USED AS INDICATED HERE. YOU MAY NOT
SEPARATE THE MRN AND NASCAR LOGOS. For further details regarding
logo usage please refer to Paragraphs 8 and 13 of your MRN Broadcast

Motor Racing Network will make available network talent for use in voicing radio

regarding local sponsor mentions. Please contact Steve Tate at [email protected]
or 704-262-6715 for more information and talent availability.
SPONSOR GUIDELINES
Motor Racing Network does not impose local advertiser restrictions. However, we
do ask that you do not traffic a competitive sponsor in the same network/local
commercial set and for this reason make network sponsors available in advance
on live event format/cue sheets. Please adhere to these guidelines out of respect
for both of our sponsors.

PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
From time to time, Motor Racing Network will organize promotional opportunities
for our radio partner stations. In most cases these are regionally focused
promotions tied to a specific track or event weekend. MRN will contact your
station should an opportunity arise in your area.
You may also wish to create your own station promotion with the NASCAR
sanctioned track nearest you or propose your own fly-away promotion with a
track in another part of the country. While MRN can not grant these opportunities
or guarantee these promotions will be approved, we may provide assistance in
making contact with the appropriate promotions personnel at the track. MRN also
strongly encourages your promotions and programming staff to sign up for
access to www.nascarmedia.com. NASCARMedia.com can provide you with
valuable contact information for race tracks, race teams and more.
RACE EVENT TRACK ACCESS
Media Credentials and Hot and Cold Pit Passes are only issued through your
local track. Please contact the appropriate Media/Communications Department
personnel at the track to arrange access. In most cases, applications for
credentials must be submitted four to six weeks in advance of the event
weekend. Contact the track for specific details.
The rights to broadcast live from a track are solely granted by the facility. In the
event that your broadcast time and date is approved, please note that per
Agreements between MRN and the track, MRN has been granted the exclusive
right to broadcast during our scheduled broadcast time. No other radio broadcast
can originate from the track while MRN is on-site and live on-air. This includes,
but is not limited to, the live race broadcasts. Please contact your Radio
Partnerships Representative with any questions.
