Why SOA References?
 Mission
 Identify key business scenarios where customer adopted SAP‘s SOA strategy
 Focus on business challenges that customers try to address with SOA
 Focus on different industries and on different SOA aspects
 The SOA references use productively
 Either SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1
 Or SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1
 SOA
 Stands for service-oriented architecture
 SAP SOA infrastructure helps customers to apply SOA
 Example SOA principles are
– Governed, model driven service provisioning and service consumption incl. use of
Business Process Management
– Design SOA artifacts in Enterprise Services Repository
– Leverage re-usable Enterprise Services (SAP or custom build)
– Publish services (SAP and non-SAP) to Services Registry
– Service enable legacy applications

SAP SOA Infrastructure –
Live @ AXAWinterthur
Before
Customer related information dispersed across
different applications :
After
Single customer view by integrating various
legacy systems with SAP CRM based on a
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
 Inefficient information retrieval because of partly
redundant and in some cases incomplete or
inconsistent customer data:
 The potential of a customer could not be fully
utilized, due to lack of consistent and complete
customer view across all lines of business
―
 Single customer view, contact history and
sales leadership information improve sales
efficiency and increase cross selling potential.
 Improved lead management and direct
marketing efficiency by integrated marketing
campaigns and automatic lead generation.
With SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 we are able to meet today's integration requirements in a
heterogeneous IT landscape and to move forward on our SOA roadmap.
SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 provides the functionality and scalability needed to integrate our
legacy world with SAP on an enterprise level.‖

Improve the process accuracy – SAP SOA
Infrastructure Live @ CARSA – Red Megatone
Challenges and Opportunities
 Need to improve and adopt new services
for customers in a fast and effective way
 Daily operation changes frequently, mainly
in sales, logistics and payment areas
Objectives
 Improve employee productivity via
tailored application
 Eliminate delays between the POS and
the logistic system to provide accurate
data to the business and offer a better
purchase experience to the customer
 Business process optimization
100% Real Time Information
No delays, 100% Data Accuracy
Benefits
 Master data, pricing and conditions are now centralized in SAP ERP and not replicated in both systems
(SAP ERP & POS) as previously implemented
 Stock information is updated in real time, in both systems (SAP and POS). Previously business
objects were updated every 3 or 12 hours, depending of which data was transferred and the number of
transactions.
 Operation problems because business data were not updated were eliminated. Example: Selling goods
that were not available in the warehouse, pricing differences, etc.

Feedback About SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 From
Endress+Hauser
―
The ESR and SR equip us with the tools we need for our SOA governance.
The AAE enables us to use the PI also for synchronous scenarios with user
interaction due to the much faster message processing.
PI is now much more open and accessible towards development environments.
PI developers will love several features like Function Libraries, parameterized
mapping.‖

ccBPM (Cross Component Business Process
Management)
Collecting, enrichment and transfer data
triggered by SAP ERP using ccBPM
Challenges and Opportunities
 Gain greater visibility into information across a
highly complex IT environment
 Reuse existing ERP processes e.g. Delivery or
Invoice IDOCs
Objectives
 Usage of integrated standard solution. In the
past this scenario would have been implemented
with several scripts, and several single interfaces
using different technologies and monitoring tools.
Now we just have one!
 With ccBPM monitoring it is now possible to check
at which state the interface currently is.
SOA Value Delivered
 Usage of ESR as central repository for SAP and Non-SAP Services
 Support of newest web service standards
 Lower TCO and higher developer productivity through usage of SAP NetWeaver PI as central
platform
 Significant reduction of processing time
 Governance processes have been simplified and centralized

It is a relieve to see how SAP respects the Java openness in SAP NetWeaver: A Java
programmer easily finds his way now.
SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 is our key technology to integrate the outside world.
The transition to SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 went smoothly given the fact that the supporting
Java programs easily could be re-used in the new environment.‖
