While I am away Mrs Wilson, Mrs Doig and Miss Jones will each have a week as Relieving Principal and Mr Johnson, Miss Flammia and Miss Dawson will be replacing the Assistant Principals in my absence. Our Stage 3 students are currently involved with a maths project with Ryde Secondary College. We have eight students who go with Mrs Wilson and Mr Johnson to Ryde Secondary and link up with a number of our local schools learning about using maths in practical situations. Yesterday students from Ryde Secondary College came to our school to support our Stage 3 students with their work as they made a Fun Park on the moon, and managed its budget. Last week we received a book for our Library from the Ryde District Historical Society. The books title is “Ryde Goes to War 1914 – 1918”. The Society very generously donated copies of their book to all the local primary schools. In this book it talks about locals who went to war in the service of our country. As I read, I was fascinated by the number of names I recognised, having grown up in the Ryde area. This weekend all the carpets throughout the school are getting their yearly shampoo. Just a reminder - if a child brings a toy, Pokemon cards or any special treasured item to school, the child is responsible for his or her own property. On Friday 12th June we will be holding our next Gold Card Assembly at 9.20am in the school hall. If your child has three Merit or Gold Card certificates please make sure they are in the Gold Card box in the school office by this Thursday 4th June at 9.30am to be processed for this assembly. Now that we have delivered a number of strong fundraising activities this first half of the year, it’s time for us to think about what’s next. There are spare catalogues in the wall pocket in the office foyer if you wish to browse other age groups. The most positive feedback from parents, who have chosen the LOOP system of payment, is that you can pay directly online and not have to worry about order forms and their child losing money or forgetting to put their order in the P&C box. If you wish to use this LOOP (Linked Online Ordering and Payment) system, please go to www.scholastic.com.au/LOOP. Otherwise, cash and cheque are still accepted as methods of payment. Thank you to all the families that ordered from Issue 3. I was able to acquire $450 worth of books for our library and book prizes for the readers club.
