Pleasant walks along the Esplanade can be enjoyed with views across the fine golden sands of the beaches stretching over the bay to the English Channel beyond. The beach at Sandown Bay holds 'Blue Flag' status offering safe bathing and also being popular for windsurfing and water sports. The cliffs are one of the best places in Britain for dinosaur hunters. Redcliff is made of clay and is continually eroding and changing revealing much of what is buried below. Many dinosaur bones/fossils found here are displayed in the Natural History Museum in London. Sandown also hosts one of the Islands few remaining piers offering amusements, cafe, bar, children’s play areas and designated areas for sea fishing – great for the keen sea angler! In addition, there can also be found the Isle of Wight Zoo (big cat sanctuary), Dinosaur Centre, tennis courts, putting greens, leisure complex, tea rooms and restaurants. At night, Sandown comes to life with a variety of pubs and clubs where you can dance the night away. A great destination for a holiday with so much to do and being a perfect base from which to explore the rest of the Island... THE ISLE OF WIGHT The Isle of Wight is situated approximately 3 miles off the English Southern Coastline. It is known for its breathtaking scenery with much of the Island being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Island first became popular as a holiday destination during Victorian times and its unique charm still entices over 2.5 million visitors each year. It is quite easy to appreciate why the Island attracts so many, with its scenic coastline, award winning golden beaches, charming little villages and temperate climate – in fact the Island can boast more hours of sunshine than most other destinations in Britain. For the more energetic, the Island offers over 500 miles of maintained footpaths and 200 miles of cycle ways, which makes it ideal for walkers and cyclists alike. Bicycles can be hired locally. The Islands towns offer a comprehensive range of shops and amenities including many 'High Street' names together with popular cafes, bars and restaurants some even being awarded the 'Michelin Star'. All in all the Island is a wonderful holiday destination, catering for all ages and with activities for all interests. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Bed linen & electricity is included.
