r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES We inventeD tHe seLF-PrOPeLLeD cOMbine in 1923 Making the harvest more productive is all we’ve ever done. That’s why you’ll find exclusive features on our combines and many of our older inventions on our competitor’s machines. Curtis Baldwin, Inventor r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES We’ve been reinventing it ever since The 2010 R6 features our best technology and construction to date. This year, we have taken popular options and made them standard. We have made design changes in particular areas based on feedback from the many farmers and harvesters who put their combines to the test during harvest. We are making the R6 Series even more powerful, reliable and comfortable for your dependable use, year after year. bUiLt tO PerFOrM WHere it cOUnts A Gleaner R6 Series is not the same as other combines. Our transverse rotor keeps the crop moving in a continuous line reducing bunches and plugs. Our patented accelerator rolls propel the grain through a curtain of air cleaning crop with amazing efficiency, even on slopes. Our unloading system will have you back in the field bringing in crop while others are waiting to unload. Because at the end of the day, all that counts is getting the cleanest sample possible without wasting valuable time doing it. Building combines with the farmer in mind is the heart and soul of every Gleaner R6 Series. This performance comes from the combination of our own patented processes and components and a design unlike any of our competitors. Here’s what makes a Gleaner unique: 1 Two-stage, four-strand gathering chain system. This allows the cylinder to be smoothly fed at the same angle regardless of the header height. Long feeder house with lowered rear feed floor with 65 in2 (420 cm2) to allow a smooth flow of material. 2 Natural Flow™ transverse rotor keeps crop moving in one uninterrupted direction directly from the header, into the rotor and out the rear of the machine. 3 4 Distribution augers to spread material evenly before entering the cleaning process allowing a uniform ribbon of material without the uneven feeding and bunching of other designs. Accelerator rolls that speed the crops descent allowing more air to clean the crop more thoroughly and the process to be less susceptible to hills and slopes. 5 Transverse fan with exclusive two-stage cleaning. The first stage cleans heavy material right beneath the accelerator rolls pushing chaff out the rear of the combine. The second stage comes up through the sieve and chaffer lifting remaining chaff and carrying it out the rear of the combine. This greatly improves cleaning efficiency over competitive designs. 6 A fully welded frame keeps the R6 Series solid, strong and provides a solid foundation for all shafts and components. 7 A low center of gravity, heavy final drives and welded frames on the R6 Series provide for large bin capacities of 300 bushels (10,570 L) on the R66 and 330 bushels (11,629 L) on the R76, which is the largest standard bin capacity in the industry. 8 Unique “Direct Flow” two auger design features a large 12” (305 mm) grain bin cross auger that feeds the 14” (356 mm) swivel unloader auger. Because we use only two augers versus competitive three auger turret systems, it means better grain quality, less wear, and reduced horsepower and fuel requirements. 9 Galvanized exterior panels prevent rust, corrosion, expensive repairs and static electricity build-up associated with steel or plastic designs. r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES UnDerstAnDing tHe nAtUrAL FLOW sYsteM One of the main things that makes a Gleaner R6 Series unique is the Natural Flow feeding and threshing. With the rotor sitting the width of the combine, the crop does not change direction when moving from the feeder house to the rotor. A variable-speed corn header drive allows the operator to change the corn header and feed chains’ speed to adapt to crop changes for the best productivity. The process begins as grain enters the machine through the 69-inch (1,752 mm) long by 39-inch (990 mm) wide feeder house which is powered by a 8 5/8-inch (219 mm) diameter front feed drum. The feeder house can be reversed with the touch of a button from the operator’s seat in the event of a plug. The feeder house pivots vertically at the first chain, anchoring the rear chain on a fixed angle regardless of header height. The second chain outpaces the first by 6 percent to prevent bunching. Four-strand undershot feed chains offer 33 percent more chain support than competitive three-strand feed chains to help prevent bent feeder slats. Two undershot four-strand feed chains provide high capacity and reliability. (Compression springs maintain feed chain tension.) In addition to keeping the crop moving in a smooth ribbon from feeding to threshing, the Natural Flow system has an additional feature that distinguishes it from competitor’s designs. Because the rotor is moving in line with the way the crop is fed into the machine, material is pulled into the rotor rather than being pushed in from the feeding system. This is a significant advantage in ensuring smooth feeding and reducing plugs. Bottlenecks are reduced because a Gleaner R6 does not narrow the crop mat when moving from the feeder house to the rotor. The width of crop mat remains the same from the time it enters the feeder house to the time it enters the rotor also reducing plugs and increasing threshing efficiency. r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES MOre eFFicient tHresHing AnD sePArAting Once in the rotor, separation takes place throughout the full 360 degrees of the rotor cage, meaning better effectiveness with less power. One button varies rotor speed via an electro-hydraulic valve. Concave settings are also adjustable to changing crop conditions, all from the operator’s seat. The 24-inch (610 mm) diameter CDF rotor uses six rows of 3/4 inch (18 mm) high-profile bars that are chromed and reversible— the grain configuration uses 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) bars in the threshing area. The bars build just enough pressure to release grain that often escapes other rotors, while taking less of a toll between bar and cage on the green-stem material. Three rows of three separator knives break up green material and reduce horsepower requirements. Standard equipment is an easy-close rock door that ejects foreign objects before they reach the concaves. Also available is an optional stone trap for fewer stops in extremely rocky conditions. The high-wire concave, unique to all Gleaner R6 Series, brings 1.4-inch (35 mm) spaced wires closer to the threshing surface for complete, gentle threshing. Font grate adjusts independently of the concave assembly for varying conditions. Chromed and reversible cylinder bars encourage long life. Available 1 /2-inch (12.7 mm) and in 3 /4-inch (19 mm) spaced rasps to accommodate tough crops. Factoryinstalled reverse rasp bars help reduce grain loss. 68” (172.72 cm) pitch helical for enhanced throughput capacity. The 24-inch (610 mm) diameter CDF rotor spins at optimal tip speed at the point of first crop impact, ensuring a thorough job of separation without grain damage. r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES Distribution augers in the separating system ensure uniform delivery of grain and material other than grain (MOG) to the accelerator rolls. cLeAner grAin Gleaners are renowned for the ability to clean grain and reduce loss on slopes. This is possible because of the patented accelerator rolls and two-stage cleaning process. The cleaning process begins with distribution augers just underneath the threshing and separating system distributing the material flow evenly into an even ribbon. Rubber accelerator rolls, tilted 15 degrees toward the front of the cleaning shoe grain pan, accelerate grain downward four times faster than simple freefall speed. Two fluted rubber accelerator rolls accelerate grain and chaff downward at four times the speed of free fall. The grain is then propelled through an evenly distributed air curtain from an 11-inch (279 mm) diameter, cab-controlled transverse fan. Dual-stage outlets provide air for precleaning at the upper duct and final cleaning at the lower duct. The two-stage, high-velocity cleaning provides a high-quality clean tank sample, even at the highest harvesting rates. The separated grain lands on a cushion of grain in the flat louvered pan ahead of the chaffer. As lighter chaff blows out the rear, material from the precleaning is processed by the chaffer. A high-volume, low-pressure curtain of air provided by the 1,150 rpm transverse-flow fan blows away light chaff as the accelerated grain passes through unaffected. r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES UnMAtcHeD UnLOADing The unique DirectFlow™ swivel unloader on all Gleaner R6 Series accomplishes a marvel of unloading speed with a larger 12-inch (305 mm) grain bin cross auger that feeds a massive 14-inch (356 mm) unloader auger. This DirectFlow two-auger design is the basis for our R6 Series unloading system. Because we only use two augers versus competition with a three-auger turret system, Gleaner has a more efficient system with better grain quality and less wear. No gearboxes. No open drives. No vertical augers. With the transition angle between the grain bin cross auger and swivel auger reduced, it means less horsepower and reduced fuel consumption to achieve this impressive unloading rate. The unloading auger was lengthened by 3 feet (91 cm) to provide a 15-foot (4.54 m) discharge height and a 23-foot (6.98 m) reach from center. On the R66, with its massive 300-bushel (10,570 L) grain tank, the unloading time is 75 seconds. The R76 unloads its 330-bushel tank (11,629 L), with the largest Class VII standard bin capacity, in 83 seconds. cLAss vii UnLOADing cOMPArisOn How much time do you invest to fill ten 1,000-bushel grain trucks? This allows full adjustment of spread pattern to match the header width and current cropping practices. better resiDUe MAnAgeMent The hydraulic spreader fingertip control allows variable speed from 75 to 400 rpm via an in-cab control. Chop residue even finer for faster decomposition and easier incorporation with the redesigned two-speed, fine-cut straw chopper with heavier knives. The standard chaff spreader on the Gleaner R6 Series is an integral part of managing uniform seed emergence, pesticide and fertilizer incorporation, and conservation tillage practices. The chaff spreader on all R6 Series efficiently uses the high volume of air passing below the accelerator rolls to blow chaff out the back of the combine. An adjustable tailboard and fins help spread shoe material as it leaves the machine, spreading it into an even wider swath. There is no stripping of material and no mechanical drives in the process. Straw, corn stalks and stems exit the rotor discharge where non-grain material is handled by either spreaders or choppers. To bale the straw or stover, simply remove the standard spreader and drop the residue into a clean, compact windrow. For extra heavy chaff spreading, add the optional hydraulic chaff spreader. Two hydraulically driven impellers promise extra-wide distribution. r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES eAsY tO rUn eAsY tO KeeP rUnning The R6 Series is designed to have the fewest number of belts, chains, augers and gear drives as possible. This is to reduce the total number of moving parts, points of potential wear or breakage and the number of hours you have to spend on service. A optional auto-lubrication system eliminates one more tedious service task. The walk-in rear engine compartment is the industry’s largest, and the combine’s overall low center of gravity puts most machine parts within easy reach from the ground. Easily accessible suction-type hydraulic filters, single reservoir and sight-level tube all work to limit service time demands without risking hydraulic system integrity. A portable work light, which can be plugged into any one of three power connections, has a magnetic base for light when and where you need it. Standard front and rear power ladders add simplicity and efficiency. r6 SERIES TRANSVERSE ROTOR COMBINES ALL DAY AnD intO tHe nigHt cOMFOrt Optional heated leather seat (cloth seat standard) The Gleaner ComforTech II™ cab and controls put comfort and convenience to work to improve the efficiency of every task and every operator.
