Honoring Texas Military Members
November 11, 2015 – February 28, 2016
Brandeis High School students honor veterans past and present
through memorial displays including oral histories, photographs,
artifacts, and original artwork.
Sikhs: Legacy of the Punjab
February 21, 2014 – April 24, 2016
Originating at the Smithsonian Institution, Sikhs: Legacy of
the Punjab explores Sikh heritage and culture. Refreshed for
exhibition at the ITC, the exhibit now also includes an overview
of Sikhs in Texas.
Fiesta Medal Mania IV
April 1 – May 29, 2016
Fiesta Medal Mania celebrates the creativity of each year’s new
Fiesta medals. Used as giveaways, for fundraisers, to trade, or just
for plain fun, the range of imagination seen each year is always
enjoyable to behold. Along with an assortment of 2016 medals,
the display also includes medals from the past few Fiestas as well
as a database of medals from long ago.
Culture, Innovation & Locale:
Students Explore Texas Architecture
March 11 – June 5, 2016
Texas High School students explore the creative and diverse
architecture of Texas through their own analysis of Texas’ rich
architectural history and advancements, interpretations of how
architecture reflects both culture and location, and creative
visions of the next generation of Texas designers and architects.
Our Part of Victory: Texans in WWII
September 2, 2015 – January 17, 2017
Some 750,000 Texans served during the war. This pivotal point in
history shaped the direction of future global development, and
brought great changes to Texas. Our Part of Victory explores the
role of Texans during World War II, and sheds light on the impact
it had on the Lone Star State.

Buffalo Soldier Day featuring, Invisible Diamonds:
Stories of Baseball in the African American Communities
of Texas
Sunday, March 13, 2016, 12:00pm-4:00pm (Free)
Witness life in 1870s Texas and see how forts became diverse
communities following the Civil War. The Invisible Diamonds
program will give context to the historical importance of baseball
to the African American communities of Texas.

School is out for Spring Break but the Back 40 at the ITC is open!
Experience the Log House, Barn, Schoolhouse, Adobe House,
and Frontier Fort. Join us for Texas Frontier Week and spring into
pioneer agriculture!
Beyond Texan Cultures: Maasai Warriors of Kenya
Sunday, April 10, 2016, 12:00pm-4:00pm (Free)
Special guest Nelson Lemeria Ole Ngotiek is a Moran (warrior),
youth leader, and music instructor in Kilena Ilaramatak, Narok
County, Kenya, and will present on Maasai culture, dance and
music. Activities will include music, dance lessons and crafts for
the whole family.
Accordions Across Culture
Sunday, May 8, 2016, 12:00pm-4:00pm (Free)
Be one of the first to view the new documentary on conjunto
pioneer Valerio Longoria and enjoy live performances
demonstrating the influence of the accordion on Texas music,
whether Tejano, German or Czech.
Legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Join Jennifer Carpenter, Preservation, Research, and Outreach
Specialist with Texas State Parks’ Historic Sites and Structures
Program, and Dr. Lauren Browning, artist and sculptor, present
their perspectives through lecture and demonstration on CCC
buildings and the men who built them.
Vaquerocation
Sunday, August 14, 2016, 12:00pm-4:00pm (Free)
Cowboy-themed programming offered in conjunction with the
citywide Kidcation. “Vaquerocation” includes opportunities to
visit with cowboy docents, enjoy book readings, and visit
activity tables.
Asian Festival
February 13, 2016
Held the week of Lunar New Year, the Asian Festival is a
celebration of the many cultures of Asia, from mainland China, to
the Indian subcontinent, to the islands of the Pacific. Enjoy food,
music, dance, martial arts demonstrations, a Lion Dance parade,
and more.
45th Annual Texas Folklife Festival
June 10-12, 2016
The essence of Texas in a three-day celebration of the many
cultures that call Texas “home.” The festival features the music,
dance, costumes, crafts, food and diversions of some 40 cultures.

TexEdventures: Bringing the Museum to YOU! (Free)
Take a virtual field trip with a live, interactive video tour! Our
unique programs utilize Adobe Connect® web conferencing
software to connect with classrooms throughout the state. All
you need is a computer with a webcam, speakers, microphone,
and Internet connection!
Professional Development programs are free and open to all K-12
educators. Participants earn CPE credits.
Hands-On History: Bringing the Past to Life with Primary and
Secondary Sources (Grades 6-12)
Teaches students how to identify, analyze, and interpret
primary and secondary sources using real artifacts, images, and
documents from the Museum’s collections.
Teacher Tuesday: DBQ Walk through the Park
Tuesday, February 23, 2016, 6:00pm-8:00pm
Join us as we walk through a series of social studies DBQ
(Document Based Question) exercises on critical thinking. Learn
new ways to engage your students with primary sources.
Native Americans in Texas: A Tale of Two Cultures (Grades 3-7)
Students will use selected imagery and artifacts to compare and
contrast the native Caddo and Apache peoples of Texas. Students
will explore in detail the key role the natural environment played
in the organization of and interactions between early cultures.

Investigating Shelter
Monday, July 18, 2016 – Thursday, July 21, 2016
Project Archaeology: Investigating Shelter is a nationallyacclaimed supplementary science and social studies curriculum
unit ideal for use in elementary and middle school classrooms.
Learn how to seamlessly integrate science with literacy,
mathematics, social studies, and history through this hands-on
exploration of past and present cultures using archaeological
inquiry.
Can You Dig It? Adventures in Texas Archaeology! (Grades 3-5)
This program introduces students to the exciting world of
archaeology, how it can help us better understand the past,
and how to apply some of the same skills archaeologists use in
making observations and inferences about our own culture.
