Supporting the ARH Foundation is vital to helping our
rural healthcare system maintain the latest technology,
quality facilities and services that have made ARH a
regional healthcare leader. As a charitable, tax-exempt

opportunity to invest in the health and quality of life
of those living in our communities. An investment

Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center Expansion Project
Opened in 1987 as one of the most modern and technologically
advanced hospitals in the mountains, the 308-bed medical
center continues to expand its services and is one of the largest
and busiest healthcare facilities in Eastern Kentucky.
Annually, the Hazard ARH Regional Medical
Center cares for more than 14,000 inpatients,
100,000 outpatients, 25,000 emergency room
patients and offers patients local access to
some of the most advanced healthcare services.
Local access to these advanced treatment
options and high demand from neighboring
counties has brought an increase in the
number of patients seeking care at Hazard ARH
necessitating the hospital to continue to grow
along with the demand.
A $47 million expansion project is underway
at the Hazard ARH Regional Medical Center
to add 50 inpatient beds, and an additional
100,000 square feet to the medical center and
will create approximately 150 new healthcare
jobs, injecting millions of dollars into the local
economies of the region.
The project will include:
• A new patient tower with a new 24-bed
emergency department on the first floor
• A dedicated 16-bed cardiac critical care unit
on the second floor
•34 private rooms on the third floor
• The hospital’s helipad will be relocated to
the top of the new patient tower to facilitate
safer and timelier air transports to and from
the facility.
The ARH Foundation for Healthier Communities
is leading a capital campaign for Hazard ARH
Regional Medical Center. With a total project
cost of approximately $47 million, the ARH
Foundation for Healthier Communities is undertaking a campaign to offset a portion of the total
project cost. Through careful analysis, the Foundation staff has determined the campaign goal
for this project is $5 million.
