Yulia Beygelzimer Joins Loriet US Open 2011 -‐ Flushing, NY – Release date Sept. 2011 Every summer the best tennis players in the world arrive in New York City for the US Open. This year’s star studded roster of talented players included Yulia Beygelzimer, a professional female tennis player from the Ukraine. Yulia was born October 20, 1983 in Donetsk, Ukraine and has been playing professionally since 2001. She is best known for her excellent performance at the French Open against Jennifer Capriati, and for her WTA success in doubles. While in New York for the US Open, we had the opportunity to sit down with Yulia to hear about some of her favorite tennis memories and to find out what she likes to do off the court. Yulia began playing tennis in the Ukraine at the age of seven, when her father took her to tennis school, an experience she playfully describes as different. “I think it's a bit different here, we have about 40 kids running around one court, when we start to play at this age.” When asked if she had a favorite player growing up, Yulia says, “Tough to say if I had one player, who I wanted to copy, I liked Hingis for her way of thinking on the court, I liked Seles, because she was taking the ball early, Sampras, of course, I think he is one of the greatest players ever...” Throughout many memorable tennis moments, Yulia recalls one of her most favorite. “My favorite memory is the victory at the Junior European championships in Klosters in 2000, it was great atmosphere and I was happy to win there, to play and win for my country was a great honor.” When Yulia is not playing tennis, she enjoys spending time with her friends and reading. An avid reader who appreciates different literature, Yulia currently describes Mark Levy as her favorite author. Yulia can also speak an impressive seven languages, from Russian, Ukrainian, English, French, to some German, Spanish and Italian. As a representative for the Ukraine and a WTA Tour player, Yulia appreciates the benefits of knowing many languages. “I like it, it makes it easier to communicate with different people around the world and also you can learn so many things if you speak different languages.” Loriet is excited to announce its partnership with such an impressive woman and athlete and is looking forward to Yulia’s many successes in the months to come.
