Mexican, lives and works in Mexico City, *1967 La Habana, Cuba
Ivan Abreu’s work integrates different processes of art, design and technology; based on the synergy of these disciplines he uses a broad range of media such as drawing, photography, installation, electronic devices, software development, sound experimentation, Internet and industrial design. His work is founded in the creation of artistic gestures
that demonstrate a hypothesis to the public that proofs and perpetuates a fact, a strategy that he calls “The poetics of
demonstration”.

Natural Order (Mexico 2012), 2012, C-Print, 29,7 × 42 cm, 1/2 +2 AP.
Three photographs are showing architectural fragments, each of which depict a brilliantly white
wall looming against a seductively blue sky. The brutal, windowless wall belongs to a functional
theater building from the 1950’s, upon which one can perceive a sharpshooter along the roof
line. Abreu rationally describes his performance as a geometric exception between a sniper
black dress and white architecture (Action performed by the artist on July 5, 2012) but actually raises the issue of the presence of weapons in public spaces. The title of the work, “Natural
Order”, is a philosophical notion that questions hierarchy and power relations in the absence of
law or secures or civil rights.
Dot shooting distance, 2012, military laser sight, mirror, tripods and drawing cardboard mounted.
The work is a graphic gesture generated from a military laser sight placed more than 80 meters
away on a roof top neighboring a military area.
M(R.P.M.) Deutschlandlied, 2011, disc player, freezer, cast of a vinyl disc, water from river Spree.
Temporary sound sculpture to hear the German hymn from an ice disc made out of frozen water
of the river Spree in Berlin in a cast of a regular vinyl disc with national hymns.
––
Climate agent, interactive video installation, 2012
Interactive installation with a black book that, when flipping the pages generates the air that
makes the Mexican flag wave. The flag is an animation projected on the wall so, the installation
worked with a sensor for movement which animated the displayed flag. The idea is to think and
reframe national notions.
––
Multiple vortex tornado, interactive sound installation, 2013
The installation could be summarized with the notion that, as a visitor leafs through the pages of
a book, he finds himself in the middle of a tornado. For this, a special book stand was designed
with a sensor which registers the draft of the air that occurs while one flips through the pages.
While leafing through the book the visitor can interactively create the acoustic illusion of a tornado, as the sensor is controlled by software developed by the artist, and the output is fed to
several speakers spread throughout the room.

Rollin Beamish
US American, lives and works in Bozman/Montana, USA, *1977 Cleveland/Ohio
“I have been producing works in drawing and installation responding to tensions within the social and political framework of globalized society. The work is highly metaphoric in structure and conjectural in its ordering in installation; involving the creation of a “cosmology” based on fact and observation. Source images and
subjects are typically taken from the “immanent archive” of the world-wide-web and then translated (or as
I see it, embodied) meticulously by hand, and altered compositionally to accentuate the contextual deficit
that often plagues the information its original form online.
As a result of this process viewers must parse highly symbolized and ritualized fragments; the ordering (or
syntax) of which is as vital to the generation of meaning as the physical investment borne by each piece. I
owe a large conceptual and formal debt to surrealism and mannerism, particularly in the representation of
the fictitious or subversive within the conventions of pictorial verisimilitude. The irony of meticulously and
painstakingly re-creating a fleeting, utilitarian mass media documentation, or engraving a curse or one-liner
with the gravitas of a tombstone epitaph is not lost; indeed these are important tools in staging internal tensions within the work. They mirror the larger irony within much of our contemporary reality as we are faced
with our own “truth” -the “facts of life” of our societies that are taken for granted - and that are simultaneously so suspect.
At the same time, I believe that despite the generalized effect of alienation that the works engender, they
also possess (or are possessed by) an odd sense of intimacy which I feel is one of the most important side effects of the manner in which they are produced. This inexplicable corporeality, perhaps due primarily to the
indexical characteristics of the labor they require, is reminiscent to me of the inherent “surplus” of our being
that thwarts complete understanding. As such, this intimacy has become one of the most salient aspects of
my work that I diligently pursue.
Ultimately, however, it is the tension; the sensation that we are collectively “dancing on the edge of a knife”,
that I am most interested in. Where do we turn as we face the ideological sublimation of our prominent
but ailing social and political structures? What do we do when opposing movements fail to provide viable
alternatives? What are the limits of the unbearable equilibrium of the present? The conceptual helplessness
created by this situation is a source of great interest to me.”

Vanessa Farfán
Mexican, lives and works in Berlin, *1977 Mexico City
The trajectories as a result of the analysis of the time, space and motion in the urban context, are the raw material of her
work. The line, understood not only as the succession of physical elements but also succession of historical, philosophical and social elements, is how the trajectories are manifested. The result is abstract mapping articulated in painting,
objects and collages that point out the parallels between form and culture in contemporary cities like México and
Berlin.
Her painting refers to cities as autopoietic organism, it means, systems the produce themselves. Her collages integrate
volume, drawing, painting and text and are a reflection about empty spaces in the urban context like Berlin. Her background as a stage designer is evident in the structure of her three-dimensional pieces which gives the impression of a
scale model of an urban monumental system..

German, lives and works in Berlin/Malta, *1977 Kempten
In many of her works, Bettina Hutschek challenges the content of existing versions of knowledge transfer and encourages the questioning of seemingly obvious contexts and existing theories. Other works concentrate on creating a
magic aura for a different world full of mystic and feelings. Thereby she uses the language of sience, politic, documentation and interviews as well as the poetry in aural and visual
sence creating video works, drawings using the typewriter and photography.

YS or: Doubts about the notion of reality, 2013, Essay film, 2-channel video projection, HDV, 16:45min
According to a Breton legend, God punished the City of Ys with flooding for its sinful behavior. Princess Dahut, King Gradlon’s daughter, was
supposedly the most sinful person; she was transformed into a mermaid at the flooding and continues to haunt the Breton coast.
The Video re-tells the story of Ys, this time out of Dahut’s perspective.
Her feminine new interpretation of the Christian-masculine dominated legend is presented.
YS or: Doubts about the notion of reality, 2013, Essay film, 2-channel video projection, HDV, 16:45min
The fictitious documentary City of Kroy tells the story of a city whose memories materialize in form of dust.
This “memory-dust” infringes upon the city’s inhabitants, thus forcing them to create new movements in the urban space.
The film consists of documentary takes, interviews, performances and interventions in urban space and the poetical narration of a voice-over.
Based onto the post-9/11-reality of New York,
City of Kroy procreates a parallel world where collective memories, facts, daily actions and mythical structures merge.
City of Kroy, 2012, Poetical Documentary, HDV, 09:15 min
Visite Surprise “Brisante Begegnungen”, Völkerkundemuseum Hamburg, 5. Februar 2012, Video13:35 min

Februar 2012, Video13:35 min
Performance-Guided Tour through the exhibition “Brisante Begegnungen” in Völkerkundemuseum Hamburg.
La civilisation horizontale - The horizontal civilization, 2011, Ficticious documentary, HDV, 12:23 min.
The video tells the story of a fictitious civilization on the basis of Bunkers and megalithic structures (Menhirs and Dolmen). This “horizontal civilization”
arises by means of fake interviews, documentary takes (Bretagne) and a mythological background story. This “horizontal civilization” descended from the Neanderthals, who after their retreat underneath the earth have developed a particular culture with rituals and life forms.
Their “ritualistic platforms” for worship of the “God of the Horizon” are known to us as Dolmen or Bunkers. In form of a poetical make-believe
documentary, history and historiography are extended.
La civilisation horizontale - The horizontal civilization, 2011, Ficticious documentary, HDV, 12:23 min.
NEWYORK, 2009, Performance-Lecture, ca 30 min and/or Video, 20:46 min
In form of a performative conference, I tell the story of New York. The city is described as a hyper structure situated between the real, the fictive and
the imaginary. In “NEWYORK”, all memories are stored in the dust which is being digested and controlled by the dust-mites. The form of
a scientific lecture is infiltrated by poetry and fiction. NEWYORK is part of an open series of performative city portraits. It exists as performance-lecture and as independent video.

José Noguero
Spanish, lives and works in Berlin, *1967 Barbastro, Huesca (Spain)
José Noguero has also mastered an amazing range of stylistic possibilities, from rigorous form of minimalism of its
stage-like display cases, to richly orchestrated, formally exuberant new paintings.
The starting point of most of these oil paintings is an almost classical landscape consisting of a few elements: a tree in
the foreground, a wide low tree-lined horizon, under a vast sky. But this seemingly traditional formula is only a starting
point, prompting a vehement and multi-layered painting that frees itself from figurative limitations.

Peter Rollny
German, lives and works in Berlin, *1967 Stuttgart
Peter Rollny incorporates found photographs of figures and objects into his work by pasting them onto the canvas.
Using photo-editing softwares Rollny assembles black and white figures of generic males and females from his own
photographic sources as well as from the pulp of popular culture, such as newspapers, magazines and movie stills.
The abstract brushmarks around them weave a blanket of verticality which appears like a celestial ceiling, Each of these figures is a product of different influences from popular culture. Consequently, these figures exemplify
social stereotypes and psychological clichés.

Soft Turns
Canadian, lives and works in Toronto, *1978/75
“Soft Turns” is the collaborative effort of
Sarah Jane Gorlitz and Wojciech Olejnik
The idea of an encounter with something, as an ever-changing space between the foreign and the familiar, the accessible and inaccessible, in a central theme of their practice. Their work features elements of public and private space, and
contemplates the significance of the way we interact with such space - with these brief moments that weave the background of the everyday. Building sets from found objects, common, easily available materials (i.e. paper and plywood),
and D.I.Y. methods, their collaborations employ experimentaton as much as intuition.
