Cone Beam CT Technology: A Must-Have Diagnostic
Imaging Modality for Any Modern Dental Practice
Instructor: Dr. Bart Silverman
January 31, 2015* Washington, DC
4 CE Credits
Treatment planning is the most important aspect of implant dentistry. Radiography is a vital part of the planning
process and new technology has made this planning process much more accurate.
2-dimensional (2D) images have inherent limitations that can result in incorrect and/or incomplete diagnosis and
treatment planning. Using a 2D image will increase the risk factor of violating opposing anatomical landmarks near the
implant site. Cone Beam CT technology has brought the power of 3-dimensional (3D) imaging to the dental office.
With the rapid growth of 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), dentists now have tools available for more
accurate diagnosis and treatment. CT-Guided dental implant planning and surgical techniques are far superior to
traditional 2-dimensional imaging and “freehand” placement of dental implants. This results in a less invasive surgical
procedure, minimizes surgical risk factors by having awareness of anatomical challenges ahead of time, increases
precision of implant placement, reduces surgical time, and enhances patient recovery.
Points of Discussion:
• Understand the basic fundamentals and application of cone-beam CT
• Identify clinically significant anatomy and pathology
• Discuss the shortcomings of traditional implant planning and surgical guides
• Introduce 3D CT volumetric implant treatment planning
• Identify the hardware and software component variables in applying CT technology
• Make practical choices for implementing CT in private practice

Let our new products tackle
your toughest procedure
Modern technology has changed the dynamic of today’s dental practice. Procedures such as implant site
enhancement have traditionally been referred to specialists because of the higher associated risk and the difficulty
of technique involved. With the introduction of piezosurgery technology, clinicians can now perform those same
procedures with an increased margin of safety and even greater surgical precision. Piezosurgery technology enables
clinicians to selectively cut only hard tissue (e.g. bone) avoiding damage to important anatomic soft tissue structures
(e.g. nerves, gingiva, sinus membranes). These benefits are paramount to risk management, simplifying surgical
techniques, alleviating patient apprehension and allowing you to offer both surgical steps of implant site preparation
and implant surgery in your office, instead of referring the patient out. This technology has been proven to generate a
significant return on investment for the modern implant practice.
Points of Discussion:
• Explanation of how piezosurgery technology selectively cuts hard tissue while leaving soft tissue intact
• Comparison of safety and precision of piezosurgery techniques to conventional surgical methods
• Review of specific applications in implant dentistry
• Surgical step-by-step techniques for implant site preparation utilizing piezosurgery, including:
o Atraumatic extractions
o Maxillary sinus augmentation
o Alveolar ridge expansion utilizing the “Ridge Split” technique
• Criteria for case selection to minimize risk and failure
• Evaluating the return on investment (ROI) of piezosurgery in the modern implant practice
Hands-On Training:
Participants will have the opportunity to operate the piezosurgery unit and perform various bone cutting
exercises to experience the tactile feedback of the handpiece, ease of operation, and surgical precision of
piezosurgery. Also, each participant will perform simulated access preparation to reach a thin and fragile
membrane similar to the sinus membrane.

Clinical & Technological Updates in Fully Edentulous
Implant Therapy: What an Implant Surgeon Must Know to
Stay Competitive in the New Dental Implant Market
Instructor: Dr. Hamid Shafie
April 11, 2015 Miami, FL
May 2, 2015 Newport Beach, CA
July 11, 2015 Washington, DC
November 14, 2015 Dallas, TX
7 CE Credits
Traditionally, the patient treatment protocol for fully edentulous patients involved all members of the dental teamsurgeon, referring/restorative dentist, and laboratory technician. In recent years, there has been a shift in the already
competitive implant dentistry market. Substantial growth in the number of edentulous patients, most with limited financial
resources, has resulted in the demand for lower cost implant overdenture solutions. In response to this demand, more
General Practitioners have expanded their treatment options to include the placement of lower-cost dental implants.
In order to remain competitive, Specialists need to equip themselves with a wider range of options, from premium to
cost-effective solutions, while maintaining quality treatment for the patient. The Specialist will have more opportunity to
sustain and grow their implant practice by offering their patients and referrals multiple treatment options.
This program is designed for the Specialist and will explain how alternative clinical options address this growing patient
population, how to deploy a program that can augment and invigorate the referral network, and how to establish
fee structures to create a more affordable patient solution while not compromising the profitability of the practice or
the quality of treatment provided. In the last several years, narrow diameter implant solutions have made substantial
progress including designs specifically indicated for implant-retained overdentures. These contemporary designs share
little in common with the “mini implants” of times past. Their narrow diameter, solid Ti-alloy implant body construction,
minimally invasive placement, and all-in-one packaging (inclusive of restorative components) present a solution that can
address the edentulous patient population with both financial and/or anatomical constraints.
Points of Discussion:
• How to incorporate new treatment solutions utilizing overdenture implants into a specialty practice with a
roadmap for practice growth.
• Different implant overdenture designs and the advantages and disadvantages of each design for various
treatment options.
• The relationship between the number and location of implants, taking into consideration biomechanics and
functional capabilities of the implant overdenture.
• Attachment assembly designs based on available bone and level of desirable retention for the patient’s
manual dexterity to ensure proper hygiene and maintenance.

Sedation: Streamlining a Complex Topic
Instructor: Dr. Ziad Ali
June 12, 2015 Washington, DC
7 CE Credits
With life expectancy in the United States and throughout the developed world approaching 80 years, dental
practitioners are quickly adapting to an aging population. Whether you are placing a single and simple dental implant,
or whether you are performing more complex surgical procedures, it is important to be comfortable managing
patients’ various medical conditions. Once the practitioner has a clear and confident understanding of these medical
conditions, management of medical emergencies becomes second nature. Also, it becomes easier and safer to use
oral sedation in the dental office, a definite competitive advantage in the highly competitive field of dental implants.
This course emphasizes a simple and bottom line approach, and participants will receive a summary for quick
reference in the dental office.
Points of Discussion:
• Management of medical conditions such as Hypertension, Coronary Artery Disease, Blood Thinners
(including newer blood thinners), Oral Steroids, Liver Disease, Kidney Disease, Bipolar disorder,
Schizophrenia, Thyroid disease, and cocaine use, to give a general overview.
