produced and used for decades. They are distinctive and loyal to their design principles. They do not produce their own work, but rather get master craftsmen and/or
brands to produce it for them – after all, an architect is not a builder. Well respected and talented designers usually work for a number of different companies and are
paid in royalties. Their portfolio consists of an array of international design awards and usually a variety of materials. Their education is with world renowned design, arts
or architecture institutes.

Arne Jacobsen (11 Feb. 1902 – 24 March 1971) is one of the most influential Danish architects and designers of the 20th century. He graduated from the
Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in Copenhagen, where he was also a professor of architecture for a long period. Arne Jacobsen put
his modernist stamp on architecture and design for more than 50 years – not only in Denmark but also internationally. His output was enormous, originating in a
philosophy of creating total concepts, where everything was thoroughly designed, with a common thread running through all his work – buildings, furniture and other
interior decor. Arne Jacobsen’s productions are more relevant than ever – and have enjoyed a strong revival over the last 20 years. He embodies the balancing act
of elite creator and household name.

Rosendahl has acquired the rights to recreate and manufacture the Banker’s, City Hall, and Roman wall clocks. Arne Jacobsen created the Banker’s Clock when he
designed the building for Denmarks National Bank in 1971, while Roman was designed for the Aarhus City Hall in 1942, and City Hall for the Rødovre City Hall in
1956. To ensure the clocks are recreated entirely in accordance with and true to the style and spirit of Arne Jacobsen, the Rosendahl design company has initiated
close collaboration with the architect and designer Teit Weylandt, who for many years directed product development at Arne Jacobsen’s studio and later at Dissing
+ Weitling. “My willingness to enter into this project was solely conditional on the manufacturer going the distance. At any time throughout the process, I had the
opportunity to say no, and I acted as guarantor to ensure the products match the original design as closely as at all possible,” Teit adds, continuing: “No stone was left
unturned: the hands, the casing, the shape of the lens – we’ve gone over everything.” Teit Weylandt, 2009.

As part of the celebration marking Stelton’s 50th anniversary, the leading British fashion designer Paul Smith has taken a fresh look at the Danish Design icon Cylinda-Line.
For design lovers everywhere, “Paul Smith for Stelton” is a stunning encounter between form and colour. What would happen if one of the world’s hottest contemporary
designers took a new look at a design classic from the 1960s? That is what Stelton wondered when considering how to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. The
brief was simple: “Dear Sir Paul, please have a look at Arne Jacobsen’s world-famous Cylinda-Line, and give it your own look to celebrate Stelton’s 50th anniversary”.
Bridging almost five decades, the stage was at last set for two design greats to meet, and for Stelton’s classic products to be borne into a new decade in a new millennium
by a contemporary designer with an exceptional sense of modern trends.

Massimo Vignelli was born in Milan in 1931; through his teenage years, he became enthralled with design and befriended many of the great architects of his
day. From 1957 to 1960, Vignelli visited America on a fellowship, and returned to New York in 1966 to start the New York branch of a new company, Unimark
International, which quickly became, both in scope and in sheer number of personnel, one of the largest design firms in the world. The firm went on to design many
of the world’s most recognizable corporate identities. Massimo Vignelli also designed the iconic signage for the New York subway system during this period. In 1971,
Massimo founded Vignelli Associates with his wife Lella who co-designed the Halo Watch in 1994. This invincible design team has designed for Knoll, Heller, Venini and
many more brands. To view their extensive design profile go to their website.

Tobias Jacobsen describes himself as a nostalgic
designer, designing everyday objects for a modern era.
His ambition as a designer is to create dynamic homes
with a sense of nostalgia and function in the form of
multi-purpose furniture and ‘honest’ kitchen utensils.
In his work, the idea for a design often springs from
studying objects that are characterised by high-quality
craftsmanship and history. A little known fact about
Tobias Jacobsen is that he is Arne Jacobsen’s Grandson.

How to know if the product you are looking at is an authentic piece of design? On a piece of authentic design there are three key factors, the producer,
the designer and the quality of material and craftsmanship. These three key factors in authentic design generally mean the end cost is high, extended
supply times and are only sold through carefully selected quality retailers with similar ethics to the designers and producers. If the price of the item
seems like a bargain, it probably isn’t a piece of authentic design; so check the three key factors for the item and the retailer’s other product selection.
The internet is a great way to check on the background of the designer and producer. At the end of the day if you are purchasing a Barcelona Chair
you want to know if it is the real chair or not, and then make an educated decision. The authentic Barcelona Chair is produced by Knoll, designed by
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (both names are imprinted on the chair) has a supply time of about 12 weeks and retails for around $14,000NZD.
