Son Altesse Sérénissime, le Prince Souverain Albert II
Le Comité National Monégasque de l’Association Internationale
des Arts Plastiques auprès de l’ U.N.E.S.C.O., est heureux d’accueillir
parmi ses membres le sculpteur Blake résidant à Monaco.
Depuis 1955, le Comité National Monégasque de l’Association
Internationale des Arts Plastiques œuvre à la promotion
de l’Art en Principauté et développe en permanence des
échanges avec des artistes dans tous les pays.
Blake travaille dans son atelier monégasque depuis 1991.
Trois de ses œuvres majeures sont exposées en permanence
en Principauté : “Les atlantes“, “1989” à Fontvieille et
“l’Eveil“ dans les Jardins des Moulins à Monte Carlo.
Nous souhaitons à Blake beaucoup de succès dans ses expositions
internationales et attendons avec impatience sa prochaine
exposition de sculptures dans nos locaux à Monaco en 2012.

Under the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco
The International Art Association of Monaco, in association
with The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), is pleased to include Monaco
resident and sculptor Blake as one of its members.
Since 1955, the International Art Association of Monaco
promotes the work of living artists in the Principality and
encourages the exchange of artists in all countries.
Blake is an active sculptor with a working studio in the Principality
of Monaco since 1991. Two Blake sculptures, Les Atlantes and 1989
are on public installation in Fontvieille and his sculpture L’Eveil is
installed in the Jardin des Moulins in Monte Carlo.
We wish Blake great success in his international exhibition tour and look forward to his next sculpture exhibition in Monaco in 2012.

THE FIGURE
« J’ai toujours été inspiré par la beauté de la forme humaine. Dans la
collection de sculpture figurative traditionnelle, je travaille avec la beauté
pour créer ce que je pense être des inspirations intemporelles de la condition
humaine. Mon but ici, est de fournir une interprétation moderne de la
sculpture figurative traditionnelles pour réveiller et évoquer une nouvelle
appréciation de cette forme d’art antique. »
“I have always been inspired by the beauty of the human form. In
the Figure Collection, I work with beauty to create what I believe are
timeless commentaries on our human condition. My goal here is to
provide a modern interpretation of traditional figurative sculpture
to awaken and evoke a new appreciation of this ancient art form.”

« Avec les sculptures en fragments, mon intention est de passer
de l’antique à une exploration actuelle de la beauté et à ce que je
perçois dans une société de plus en plus fragmentée. La beauté est
toujours là, vous devez regarder au-delà des espaces négatifs. Pour
moi, les parties les plus intéressantes des sculptures en fragments
sont les morceaux non apparents.»
“With the Fragments sculptures, my intention is to modify an ancient
medium into a modern exploration of beauty in what I perceive to be an
increasingly fragmented society. The beauty is still there, you just have to
look past the negative spaces. For me, the most interesting parts of the
Fragments sculptures are the pieces that are missing.”

La Biographie
L’artiste Blake William Ward est né à Yellowknife, dans les Territoires
du nord-ouest, du Canada le 3 juin 1956 et a grandi à Edmonton. Il a
obtenu un degré d’honneur aux beaux-arts de l’université d’Alberta en
1979. En 1985, il a choisi Paris pour étudier la sculpture figurative. En
1991, Blake s’est installé à Monaco et a ouvert son premier atelier.
Blake travaille l’argile pour produire des sculptures en bronze et
en marbre qui sont moulées et fabriquées en Italie. Blake a réalisé
plus de 80 sculptures répertoriées en 3 catégories différentes. La
sculpture figurative traditionnelle ou Blake explore des notions
de beauté idéalisée. La série « Fragments » est consacrée aux
survivants des mines terrestres et des conflits militaires ; la collection
« Re-Think » est dédiée à la promotion des droits de l’homme.
Blake expose actuellement dans le monde entier et est présent
dans de nombreuses collections privées et publiques.

Biography
The artist Blake was born Blake William Ward in Yellowknife,
Northwest Territories, Canada on June 3, 1956 and raised
in Edmonton. He received an Honours Degree in Fine Art
from the University of Alberta in 1979. In 1985, he moved
to Paris to study figurative sculpture. In 1991, Blake moved
to Monaco and opened his first Monte-Carlo studio.
Blake works in clay to produce bronze and marble sculpture
that are cast or carved in Italy. There are over 80 different Blake
sculptures that are categorized into one of three thematic groups.
Traditional Figurative Blake sculpture explores notions of idealized
beauty. The Fragments series of dis-figurative work is dedicated to
the survivors of landmines and military conflict, and the Re-Think
collection is dedicated to the promotion of human rights.
Blake exhibits internationally and has work in numerous
private, corporate and public collections.
