Engaging Students’ Minds and Bodies
Our mission is to enrich
the lives of students with
wholesome, skill-building
activities that improve
academic performance,
health and wellness,
attitude towards school,
self confidence, character
and values, and opportunity for lifelong employment.
Sports & Arts in Schools
Foundation (SASF), a
non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, is the largest
provider of school-based
after-school programs in
New York City and the
metro region, serving
more than 25,000 students
in more than 150 public
schools.
Some SASF programs are
publically funded while
others are school or
parent-funded. As a result
of decreased funding for
free after-school programs
in NYC, SASF created the
Family Sustained Initiative
(FSI). The FSI will provide a
Champions Club afterschool program model
with a balanced mix of
academic support, sports
and visual/performing arts
activities at a low monthly
cost.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IMPROVES
EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE
According to a study conducted at the Centers For Disease Control (CDC), physical activity
can help improve academic achievement -- including grades and standardized test scores.
The study found that physical activity can have an impact on cognitive skills, attitudes and
suggest that schools should maintain and develop school-based sports programs.

HELPING MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS PREPARE FOR HIGH SCHOOL
MIDDLE SCHOOL TODAY
6 HIGH SCHOOL TOMORROW
Choosing the most appropriate high school is the single most important decision
middle school students and their families will make.
INDIVIDUAL ADVISEMENT
Advisors provide one-on-one and group sessions to help students understand
the high school admissions process and choose the best high school. Students
receive individual attention to prepare their high school application and followup should another application be necessary.

GUIDED TOURS
Our program brings students and parents to high schools for an in-depth look at
what’s offered along with the opportunity to meet key personnel for Q&A.
SPECIALIZED TEST PREP
Students taking the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT) are offered
comprehensive test prep, including subject-based instruction and test-taking
strategies. We also help students prepare art portfolios and interview for
screened high schools.
GROUP WORKSHOPS
Students learn how to conduct themselves in a mature and self-reflective manner
with resiliency and good study habits. These workshops focus on several aspects
of Character Education and Career Awareness.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT
Decisions that will impact future success in high school, college, and beyond are
made during middle school, so parental support is especially important. Our
workshops provide timely and relevant information, as well as a forum for
parents.

COLLEGE COUNSELING
Advisors meet regularly with students on the admissions process, selecting the right
college, writing a strong essay and working through the financial aid process. Each
student completes an in-depth assessment at the beginning and the end of the year to
determine his or her level of college readiness.
nNew York City Housing Authority
TEST PREP
Our academic support includes test prep coaching on standardized tests such as the
PSAT, SAT, and the ACT. A good score on these tests will demonstrate a high level of
proficiency increasing the opportunity of acceptance to a college of choice while potentially qualifying for scholarships.
COLLEGE TOURS
Often just setting foot on campus can inspire a student to study harder and motivate him
or her to strive for college. During tours, participants are encouraged to ask questions
about entrance requirements, course of study, retention rate for freshmen, extracurricular activities, career opportunities and more.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
We offer individual sessions, quarterly newsletters and College Readiness Workshops to
assist parents in all aspects of the college selection process, along with educating parents
on the critical process of applying for Financial Aid.
COLLEGE PREP WORKSHOPS
These workshops provide everything you need to know to get into and succeed
in college.
WORKSHOP OFFERINGS
The High School Today College Tomorrow program offers workshops in our three core
areas -- College Readiness, Character Education and Career Awareness.
