Your dollars keep our community vibrant, helping business owners pay their employees, who in return purchase homes, pay taxes, buy gas, groceries and clothing. We are fortunate to call this community our 1201 NASA PARKWAY HOUSTON, TX 77058 (P) 281/488-7676 (F) 281/488-8981 www.ClearLakeArea.com home, let’s do our part to stay the envy of other communities around the state. One of the best ways to "Shop the Bay Area First" is to participate in or attend our Over the past two years our community has been hit by a major hurricane, suffered from the national economic downturn and ridden a roller coaster of emotion regarding the uncertain future of the Johnson Space Center. This summer we will be facing the end of the Space Shuttle program which means more uncertainty for our community. When talking to many business owners from the construction industries to commercial real estate to the local travel agents I have heard, “2010 was my worst year in business but the first quarter of 2011 is looking better”. That’s good news! The Texas Comptroller Susan Combs reports that the state’s sales tax revenue in March 2011 had an increase of 9.9%, compared to March 2010. This is the twelfth straight month that sales tax revenue has increased. So far this calendar year, local sales tax allocations are up 7.9% compared to the first three months of 2010. We can all help our local economy continue to grow by thinking “Shop the Bay Area First”. Your business makes a difference to our local merchants, restaurants, health care providers, realtors, and any of Business EXPO, on Thursday, May 12th at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. The purpose of the EXPO is to nurture and enhance our local businesses, giving them the opportunity to increase visibility and promote products and services within the Clear Lake area. I hope to see you at the EXPO. I am happy to welcome our newest Distinguished Investor; new member Texas Citizen’s Bank – NASA has joined the ranks as a “Distinguished Partner”. Their annual membership investment increases their visibility on our Chamber website, in our monthly newsletter and at our Chamber events as well as enhances our Chamber’s programs. Thank you, Mike Cornett and Leon Coe for your support in allowing our Chamber to continue to promote the Clear Lake/Bay Area Houston region. Learn more about becoming one of our Distinguished Investor’s by contacting me or Stephanie Rice, our Director of Membership at 281/488-7676 today! I hope you all have a great month, Happy Mother’s Day to all of our wonderful mothers and we’ll see you at the Business EXPO on May 12th. Inevitably, I would find myself sitting down with the executives talking about marketing ideas. I realized marketing was my niche. I began to research franchise opportunities and that's how my involvement with Chick-fil-A came about. I believe that endearing businesses become enduring businesses and Chick-fil-A certainly holds true to that philosophy.
