A message from the
Chairman of the Board
Dear Fellow Chamber Members,
What a way to celebrate Jamieson Mackay’s year as Chairman of the Board.
It was a wonderful and very memorable evening at the ball. I hope you all
enjoyed yourselves as much as I did. The committee did a fabulous job of
celebrating Jamieson’s Scottish heritage. I want to thank all the sponsors and
committee members that made the evening so special. We truly couldn’t do it
without you.
We had a very special October luncheon. The program was provided by
Senator Larry Taylor and State Representative Dr. Greg Bonnen. Senator
Taylor heralded that Texas is a leader among states and the oil and gas economy
is booming while our rainy day fund remains healthy. He reminded everyone
that Proposition 1 is on the ballot for November 4th. Proposition 1 will
divert a small percentage of gas severance taxes from the rainy day fund to
provide additional revue for roads and transportation. Dr. Bonnen’s remarks
showed concern for border security issues and the economic impact on our
communities. One cause that he will champion this session is consideration of
funding for University of Houston-Clear Lake’s downward expansion. We lost this battle last session but we must
persevere. Remember to get out and vote!
I had the very special honor of presenting State Representative John E. Davis with an award to honor is sixteen years
serving our community. He has served District 129 with passion and unwavering support. Although his leadership
in the Capitol will be missed, I am confident that he will always serve his community.
Next month on December 13th is our Christmas boat parade. Come enjoy an evening on the Kemah Boardwalk
and marvel at the decorated boats. The captains are sure to delight everyone with holiday cheer. Buy Into Bay Area
by visiting local restaurants, shops, and cozy hotels before, during, and after the parade. There are still many ways
to participate, just contact the chamber staff. Also in December is our chamber’s open house hosted by the board of
director’s on December 18th. Mark your calendars for a fun filled December.
You will be hearing more about the virtual rollout of the Buy Into Bay Area initiative this month. To kick this off,
all day on November 6th, post a selfie on the social media of your choice with the tag #BuyIntoBayArea and show
everyone how you think local. Look for other ways that you can participate. There will be so many options and ways
to Buy Into Bay Area that I’m confident that we can all find a way to get involved.
