Thirty percent – that’s our jump in volunteer participation from last year!
And this year, we’ll capture the enthusiasm of 2,500 volunteers who will work
alongside a brand new cohort of partner families as they start on their sweat
equity hours in May. In fact, Habitat engages an average of 13 volunteers
every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This is just remarkable and
we’re very humbled and inspired by you! We know volunteers are essential to
our work – and we welcome you to come join us and make a difference!

Spotlight

so MUCH MORE! Our volunteer photographers are an integral part
of Habitat’s success, and help us tell our story. After four years of taking
photos for Habitat, Ellie Sief shares her thoughts on volunteering with us:
“Every time I enter a Habitat site, my spirit soars. It’s the energy that
emanates from everyone, the values and the heart that make me feel so
‘at home.’ I’ve photographed several dedications over the years, and my
favorite subject to capture is the pure joy of a new Habitat homeowner.
When they talk about the extraordinary challenges they’ve overcome to
receive the key to their new home, to turn the key in the door for the
first time—I can’t help shedding tears behind the lens.
Sol Levy, a long-time friend and Habitat photographer, first recruited me
to take pictures. Sol sadly passed away last year, but thanks to him I’ve
been hooked on Habitat since day one. The advice I’d give to a new
volunteer photographer is to come out, meet the folks, start shooting.
You’ll be drawn in—try it, you’ll love it!”
Women Build
Construction Classes:
Registration open!
It’s time to take spring cleaning one step further! If your
home is in need of basic repairs, now is your chance to
learn some basic construction skills taught by women, in
a class for women! Habitat holds Women Build Construction Classes every fall and spring – and registration
is now open for the spring 2012 session! Find more information on habitatphiladelphia.org, or contact Kristin
Caldwell at [email protected].
Outside of Habitat, Ellie exhibits her photos locally and sells prints to raise
money for the Picasso Project, which provides arts grants to Philadelphia
Public School teachers. We can’t thank Ellie enough for her years of work
capturing Habitat Philadelphia’s accomplishments!
You can photograph our work, too! Contact our Volunteer Coordinator
at [email protected] or 215.765.6000 x10 to learn
more. And to see some of our fantastic photographs, search Habitat for
Humanity Philadelphia on Flickr.
