The top 12 photos (as voted by the public) will appear in the “Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Parks 2016 Calendar”. Deadline to submit a photo is October 7th, 2015. WOBBLE GOBBLE CHRISTMAS IN THE PARK FUN RUN! Saturday, 11/21 at 9am Before you chow down let’s wobble all over Sackett-Wright Park at the 1st annual Wobble Wobble Gobble. This all ages, family friendly fun run will go through Sackett-Wright Park. We will have activities and other surprises for the entire family to enjoy a morning in the park. The first 50 registered participants will receive a meal ticket to Harvest Mobile Cuisine that will be on location from 9-11:30am. The run will start at 9:30am. Register for the race by 11/9. Space will be limited. For details about race route, schedule of events and how to volunteer visit our website. All of these ideas started from a fun conversation, if you want to join the conversation these programs are perfect for you. Give us a call to sign up or just give it a try some afternoon/evening. Hike and a Movie Saturday, 8/29 at 1pm Set out on an adventure at Sweet Arrow Reserve then relax in the A/C to watch a movie. We will take a quick hike through the reserve to see one of the oldest trees in this area and then meet back up at the community center for some social time and a movie. Meet new people and relax for an afternoon. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking. Ages: Adult Cost: FREE event Location: Sweet Arrow Reserve/ Community Center Matinee Mondays Pinterest Party! Mondays, 8/17, 9/14, 10/5, 11/9, 12/7 at 6:30-8pm Do you love the popular website “Pinterest”? Get ready to make all of that “pinning” a reality! We will have supplies to create a variety of the most popular “pins” of the past year including seasonal ideas, delicious creations, as well as home décor projects. Check out our Pinterest page with the board titled “Pinterest Parties 2015” to get a preview. We will supply everything needed for fulfilling your pin-interests! Play cards, discuss books, listen to music or just enjoy a nice fire in the fire place. Invite your neighbor, invite your friend or just tell a stranger at the store! We will provide beverages and light snacks as well as a welcoming atmosphere. November’s Meet Your Neighbor will be a special Thanksgiving Potluck, call for more details. Ages: Adults Cost: FREE event Location: Community Center Building a Home Rain Barrel: Understanding the management of rainwater in your yard Wednesday, 9/16 at 6:30-8pm Learn about the benefits, site selection, maintenance and construction of a rain barrel. This informative program will be presented by Greene County Soil and Water Conservation. Rain barrels, supplies and guidance will be available to participants with paid registration is due by 9/9. We will have a limit of 30 barrels available, walk–ins are welcome to attend and learn the process. Knowing what type of extinguisher is needed in the kitchen opposed to the garage is very important to keep your family and property safe. This course will be taught at the Firehouse on Clyo Road. Hands-on model demonstrates land uses and pollution potentials in a watershed. Learn how we fit into the watershed “puzzle”. Presented by Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District. Ages: Adults Cost: FREE event Location: Community Center Fly Fishing in the Miami Valley Wednesday, 10/7 at 7-8pm Learn the basics of fly fishing from local angler, Matt Parker. Matt is a Wildlife Biologist, fly fishing guide and General Manager of both the ReelFly Rod Outfitters and Sugar Creek Fly Shop. He will discuss his “into the wild” fly fishing on the Little Miami River in and around the Bellbrook area. This will include where you can fly fish, what species are available and what equipment, flies and gear is necessary to explore this waterway. Additional information on the biology of rivers and streams will also be presented. Registration is encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome. Ages: Adults Cost: FREE event Location: Community Center Beekeeping 201: Winter is coming Wednesday, 10/28 at 7-8pm If you are fairly new to the beekeeping scene this will be your chance to learn some valuable information to keep your bees happy all winter long. Proper preparation is key to a happy hive throughout the year. Beekeeping experts Stephen Hollen and Mike Pittman will present the information you need to be successful and a question and answer session. Registration is encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome. Ages: Adults Cost: FREE event Location: Community Center Ohio Wildlife History Wednesday, 11/4 at 7-8pm Join our Chief Naturalist Kendra Schide as she explains the history of our Ohio’s native wildlife species. Ohio’s wildlife has undergone major changes since settlement and the status of many species has been altered over time. Discover which animals have been extirpated or endangered and which ones may be harvested or hunted currently in Ohio. Hands on exploration of many mounted species and pelts is included in this interesting and educational program. Ages: Adults Cost: FREE event Location: Community Center Ohio Watersheds Wednesday, 10/21 at 7-8pm Environmental Specialist Michelle Waller of the Ohio EPA will be speaking about the Little Miami River watershed-a state and national scenic river. She will be presenting a summary of water quality and how it is assessed, along with some background on regulatory language. If the weather cooperates she will collect samples of macro-invertebrates to demonstrate which species are good water quality indicators. Registration is encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome. Ages: Adults Cost: FREE event Location: Community Center Tuesdays 9/15-10/20; 10/27-12/1; 12/8 & 12/15 at 7-8:30pm Hatha Yoga is a system of relaxation, breathing, exercise and meditation designed to reduce stress and increase energy. This class is for beginning or continuing yoga students who also want to enhance strength, flexibility, and balance. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a mat or blanket. Location: Community Center Fitness ODNR - Stream Quality Monitoring Wednesday, 10/14 at 7-8pm Join staff from ODNR as they discuss the importance of stream quality monitoring in the state of Ohio especially in the Miami Valley. If this sparks an interest they will have information on hand so that you can get involved in their volunteer program. Registration is encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome. Ages: Adults Cost: FREE event Location: Community Center Hatha Yoga Gentle Yoga Thursdays 9/17-10/22; 10/29-12/10; 12/17 at 11:30am-1pm This class is for beginners as well as more experienced students who want to try a gentle, slower and relaxing practice. We will combine relaxation techniques, proper breathing, gentle stretches and meditation. People with injuries, health problems, or other issues that limit mobility or cause pain can also participate. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring a mat or blanket. Location: Community Center Okinawa Karate Mondays and Wednesdays at 6-7pm, 6-8pm for intermediate students Okinawa Shogen-Ryu Karate-Do is a traditional martial art that teaches selfdefense, discipline, respect and confidence while providing health and camaraderie for young and old alike. Karate is something that parents can do with their children and it can be done for a lifetime. Instructor Brad Earich is a 3rd Degree Black Belt. No registration required, but treats and food is gladly accepted on behalf of our local animal shelter. We will wrap up the evening of fun with a performance by the German Sauerkraut Band beginning at 7pm. The Sauerkraut German Band was organized in 1973 by seven civilian and military members of the U.S. Air Force Foreign Technology Division. Today 15 musicians, including retired or active duty military and civilian personnel from Wright-Patterson and other professions. You’ll be entertained by polkas, waltzes, schottisches, marches, and specialty numbers in additional “oompah” style along with many of the big band sounds of the ‘40s and ‘50s. They are a very versatile band, featuring many vocal and instrumental solos. Please drop off your entries from 3:30-4:45pm so that entries can be set up and ready for the public to view by 5pm. Judging and winners will be announced at the event by 6:30pm. All entries may not exceed 2’x3’ base and must be made from at least 75% food products. Preregistration available, however not necessary to participate. Learn about the special grasses, wildflowers and animals that call this unique habitat home. Can you envision the American Bison and prairie Schooner wagons that use to cross Ohio when the prairies were a natural area of our state? Wear sturdy walking shoes and a sun hat for this fun hike.
