Program Registration
Registration for all programs featured in this newsletter will begin on August 8,
2015 and run through December 2015. Registration can be done in person, over the
phone, online as well as mail-in registration forms. Payment is required at the time
of registration for all programs and camps. Please call (937)848-3535 if you have any
questions or need assistance signing up. If your plans change and you are unable to
come to a program you have signed up for please let us know so that we can open up
your spot to someone else or adjust our supplies needed. We can’t wait for you to join us
in the parks and see what the Park District can do with you!

Grab a camera, get out in the parks and capture the beauty
of our special community. The top 12 photos (as voted by
the public) will appear in the “Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Parks
2016 Calendar”. Deadline to submit a photo is October 7th, 2015. Voting
on facebook and in person at the community center will
take place from October 14th -28th. The calendar will be
available at the community center in November 2015.

CHRISTMAS
IN THE PARK
FUN RUN!
Saturday, 11/21
at 9am
Before you chow down let’s wobble all over Sackett-Wright
Park at the 1st annual Wobble Wobble Gobble. This all ages,
family friendly fun run will go through Sackett-Wright Park.
We will have activities and other surprises for the entire
family to enjoy a morning in the park. The first 50 registered
participants will receive a meal ticket to Harvest Mobile
Cuisine that will be on location from 9-11:30am. The run will
start at 9:30am. Register for the race by 11/9. Space will be
limited. For details about race route, schedule of events and
how to volunteer visit our website.

Saturday, 12/12/15 at 5-7pm
BELLBROCK PARK
Come out for a Bellbrock Park tradition! The park lighting
ceremony at 5pm, local music groups performing the seasonal
favorites, hot chocolate and a visit by the big jolly man himself.
See our website for details on the schedule of activities. Canned
food items or new/gently used winter hats and gloves will be
collected and donated to the Family Resource Center. There will
also be a bake sale that will benefit Partnerships for Success,
the high school group that volunteers to partner with the park
district for this event. No registration required. Spend the
evening with family and friends at Bellbrock Park as you get
into the holiday spirit.

These programs are geared towards
adults who want to get out and meet
people within our community, learn new
trends or just relax and enjoy a simple
time with others in the park. All of these
ideas started from a fun conversation, if
you want to join the conversation these
programs are perfect for you. Give us a

afternoon/evening.
Hike and a Movie
Saturday, 8/29 at 1pm
Set out on an adventure at Sweet Arrow
Reserve then relax in the A/C to watch a
movie. We will take a quick hike through
the reserve to see one of the oldest trees
in this area and then meet back up at the
community center for some social time and
a movie. Meet new people and relax for an
afternoon. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking.

Do you love the popular website
“Pinterest”? Get ready to make all of that
“pinning” a reality! We will have supplies
to create a variety of the most popular
“pins” of the past year including seasonal
ideas, delicious creations, as well as home
décor projects. Check out our Pinterest
page with the board titled “Pinterest
Parties 2015” to get a preview. We will
supply everything needed for fulfilling
your pin-interests! Register for each class
by the Friday morning before each class so
that supplies can be purchased in advance.

Mondays, 10/26, 11/16, 12/21 at 3-4:30pm
Join us for a meet and greet for our
residents wanting to get out and socialize
with other people in our community. Play
cards, discuss books, listen to music or
just enjoy a nice fire in the fire place.
Invite your neighbor, invite your friend
or just tell a stranger at the store! We
will provide beverages and light snacks
as well as a welcoming atmosphere.
November’s Meet Your Neighbor will be a
special Thanksgiving Potluck, call for more

Bee Keeping 101

Local beekeeping expert Bill Starrett will

Building a Home Rain Barrel:
Understanding the management of
rainwater in your yard
Wednesday, 9/16 at 6:30-8pm
Learn about the benefits, site selection,
maintenance and construction of a rain
barrel. This informative program will
be presented by Greene County Soil
and Water Conservation. Rain barrels,
supplies and guidance will be available to
participants with paid registration is due
by 9/9. We will have a limit of 30 barrels
available, walk–ins are welcome to attend
and learn the process.

Fire Extinguisher Safety Class
Wednesday, 9/23 at 7-8pm
Join the Sugarcreek Fire Department
for an informational evening on the
importance of fire extinguisher safety.
Knowing what type of extinguisher is
needed in the kitchen opposed to the
garage is very important to keep your
family and property safe. This course will
be taught at the Firehouse on Clyo Road.

Watersheds and Flows
Wednesday, 9/30 at 7-8pm
This overview will address aspects of the
watersheds in our areas. Hands-on model
demonstrates land uses and pollution
potentials in a watershed. Learn how we
fit into the watershed “puzzle”. Presented
by Greene County Soil and Water
Conservation District. Registration is
encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome.

Fly Fishing in the Miami Valley
Wednesday, 10/7 at 7-8pm
Learn the basics of fly fishing from local
angler, Matt Parker. Matt is a Wildlife
Biologist, fly fishing guide and General
Manager of both the ReelFly Rod Outfitters
and Sugar Creek Fly Shop. He will discuss
his “into the wild” fly fishing on the Little
Miami River in and around the Bellbrook
area. This will include where you can fly
fish, what species are available and what
equipment, flies and gear is necessary
to explore this waterway. Additional
information on the biology of rivers and
streams will also be presented. Registration
is encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome.

Beekeeping 201: Winter is coming
Wednesday, 10/28 at 7-8pm
If you are fairly new to the beekeeping
scene this will be your chance to learn some
valuable information to keep your bees
happy all winter long. Proper preparation
is key to a happy hive throughout the year.
Beekeeping experts Stephen Hollen and
Mike Pittman will present the information
you need to be successful and a question and
answer session. Registration is encouraged.

Ohio Wildlife History
Wednesday, 11/4 at 7-8pm
Join our Chief Naturalist Kendra Schide
as she explains the history of our Ohio’s
native wildlife species. Ohio’s wildlife has
undergone major changes since settlement
and the status of many species has been
altered over time. Discover which animals
have been extirpated or endangered
and which ones may be harvested or
hunted currently in Ohio. Hands on
exploration of many mounted species and
pelts is included in this interesting and
educational program.

Ohio Watersheds
Wednesday, 10/21 at 7-8pm
Environmental Specialist Michelle Waller
of the Ohio EPA will be speaking about
the Little Miami River watershed-a state
and national scenic river. She will be
presenting a summary of water quality
and how it is assessed, along with some
background on regulatory language. If
the weather cooperates she will collect
samples of macro-invertebrates to
demonstrate which species are good
water quality indicators. Registration is
encouraged. Walk-ins are welcome.

Hatha Yoga is a system of relaxation,
breathing, exercise and meditation
designed to reduce stress and increase
energy. This class is for beginning or
continuing yoga students who also want to
enhance strength, flexibility, and balance.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing

is required no later the Friday before each

ODNR - Stream Quality
Monitoring
Wednesday, 10/14 at 7-8pm
Join staff from ODNR as they discuss the
importance of stream quality monitoring
in the state of Ohio especially in the Miami
Valley. If this sparks an interest they will
have information on hand so that you can
get involved in their volunteer program.

Hatha Yoga
Gentle Yoga
Thursdays 9/17-10/22; 10/29-12/10; 12/17
at 11:30am-1pm
This class is for beginners as well as more
experienced students who want to try a
gentle, slower and relaxing practice. We
will combine relaxation techniques, proper
breathing, gentle stretches and meditation.
People with injuries, health problems, or
other issues that limit mobility or cause
pain can also participate. Please wear
loose, comfortable clothing and bring a
mat or blanket. Registration is required no
later than the Friday before each 6 week
session begins. No registration needed for
12/17, it will be a drop in only class. NO

Okinawa Karate
Mondays and Wednesdays at 6-7pm,

Okinawa Shogen-Ryu Karate-Do is a
traditional martial art that teaches selfdefense, discipline, respect and confidence
while providing health and camaraderie for
young and old alike. Karate is something
that parents can do with their children and
it can be done for a lifetime. Instructor Brad
Earich is a 3rd Degree Black Belt. Uniforms,
called keikogi can be purchased from the

Concert Series
ZUMBA Toning
Tuesdays, (on-going) at 7-8pm
When it comes to body sculpting, ZUMBA®
Toning combines targeted body-sculpting
exercises and high energy cardio work
with Latin-infused ZUMBA® moves.
Torch calories while strength-training at
this dance fitness-party. Learn how to use
lightweight, maraca-like Toning Sticks to
enhance rhythm and tone target zones,
including arms, abs, glutes and thighs.

This summer we partied in the parks
twice a month June through August. We
hope that you got a chance to join us for
the variety of activities at each event! If
not there are 3 more events left! This
free event is geared towards all ages and
will certainly be the best place in town to
just relax with friends and family! Bring
a lawn chair or blanket for your family to
sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds
of the park. Parties located in Bellbrock
Park will conclude with live music from
7-8pm compliments of the Summer
Concert Series! The rain location will be
the Community Center.

Calling all dog lovers! This event is for
all of you that love dogs. We will have
fun activities set up for the dogs and their
owners such as dog races, an obstacle
course, and a look-alike contest. There
will be plenty to do for both dogs and
humans! We will also have a special
K-9 presentation/demonstration. No
registration required, but treats and food
is gladly accepted on behalf of our local
animal shelter.

Mad River Railroad is a Dayton, Ohio
based bluegrass/newgrass band comprised

Let’s squeeze all of the fun right out
of this summer! We will wrap up the
evening of fun with a performance by the
German Sauerkraut Band beginning at
7pm. The Sauerkraut German Band was
organized in 1973 by seven civilian and
military members of the U.S. Air Force
Foreign Technology Division. Today 15
musicians, including retired or active
duty military and civilian personnel from
Wright-Patterson and other professions.
You’ll be entertained by polkas, waltzes,
schottisches, marches, and specialty
numbers in additional “oompah” style
along with many of the big band sounds
of the ‘40s and ‘50s. They are a very
versatile band, featuring many vocal and
instrumental solos.

afternoon learning about the equipment
and skills it takes to be a firefighter!

We will search for the treasures (caches)
and gather trash on an adventure
hunt through the park. When we finish
up finding the caches we will reward

exciting partnership with the park district
and the talented boy scouts of troop 375.

or Less is an exciting night of challenges
that will test your speed, aim, focus, and
willingness to do silly challanges! Jeopardy
and Family Feud will challenge your brain
and your trivia skills. Family Bingo Night,
always a classic, will be a night full of fun
prizes and smiles!

beads, and so much more! Registration is

Halloween in
the Park
Saturday, 10/17 at 3-6pm
Our classic Halloween Festival with
something for everyone. Wagon rides to a
pumpkin patch and then to the decorating
station will surely get your family in the
Halloween spirit. Charlie Cadabra will
be amazing people of all ages with his
fantastic magic throughout the park,
so watch out or he might appear out of
thin air! Spooky tales will be waiting for
you under the Winters Library tent with
Ms. Joanne. Games, face painting and
silly autumn themed contests will run
throughout the event.

7th Annual Gingerbread House Contest
Saturday 12/12 at 5-7pm
The contest will be featured in the gingerbread land tent at Christmas in the Park. Please
drop off your entries from 3:30-4:45pm so that entries can be set up and ready for the
public to view by 5pm. Judging and winners will be announced at the event by 6:30pm. All
entries may not exceed 2’x3’ base and must be made from at least 75% food products. Preregistration available, however not necessary to participate.

Nature
Tall Grass Prairie Hike
Wednesday, 8/26 at 10am
Come enjoy a summer morning hike
through our newly planted prairie. Learn
about the special grasses, wildflowers
and animals that call this unique habitat
home. Can you envision the American
Bison and prairie Schooner wagons that
use to cross Ohio when the prairies were
a natural area of our state? Wear sturdy
walking shoes and a sun hat for this fun
hike. Registration required by 8/25.

It’s still Summer Night Hike!
Saturday, 9/19 at 7:30pm
The fall equinox is 4 more days away so it’s
still summer! Come out and celebrate by
joining our chief naturalist for a night hike
through our beautiful nature park. We will
be playing some fun night time activities
and also looking for some of the nocturnal
animals and owls that call Sweet Arrow
Reserve home. Wear sturdy hiking shoes
and be prepared for possible cool night air.

Did you ever want to try out the sport of
archery?! Could you be the next Katniss
or Legolas?! Join our certified archery

Holiday Hike
Stars, S’mores and More!
Saturday, 10/24 at 7-9pm
Families are invited to join local
astronomy experts for an evening of
stargazing through various telescopes
at the beautiful waxing moon and other
cosmic features. A cozy campfire will keep
you warm while you enjoy a tasty s’more
and quick hikes to test your night vision
at a sparky party. This program will be
cancelled during inclement/cloudy weather.

Fabulous Fall Foliage Hike
Saturday, 10/24 at 10am
Enjoy the colors of the beautiful trees of
Sweet Arrow Reserve as we hike through
our largest nature park. We will visit 3 very
large trees along the way and observe many
other trees as we hike the woodland trails.
Wear sturdy hiking boots for rugged or wet
trails. Registration required by 10/22.

We’re NUTS about Nature!
Saturday, 11/14 at 11am
Discover the variety of nuts that can be
found on this fun nature hike. Hickory,
walnut, beech and of course Ohio buckeye,
our state tree can all be viewed easily
along our woodland trail. Please wear
sturdy hiking shoes for rugged trails and
possible wet creek crossings. Registration

Tuesday, 12/29 at 1pm
Enjoy a break from the hustle and bustle of
the holidays and get outside and explore our
beautiful nature park in the winter with our
Chief Naturalist. Children will find some fun
holiday trail surprises as we hike along that
will teach them about the wonders of nature!
Wear layers of clothing for cold weather
hiking and sturdy shoes for rugged trails
and possible wet creek crossings.

Thursdays, 9/10-10/15/15
Beginners will receive instruction on the
fundamentals of the game, developing skills,
ball control, stroke techniques, practice
habits and court etiquette. Intermediates
will improve on basic tennis fundamentals,
but will begin to learn how to play the game
of tennis in match situations. Every level
will work to learn and improve on forehand,
backhand, serve and volley. Participants
will be divided into age and skill levels.
Participants are required to bring a water
bottle and a racquet. Children should
wear shorts, a tee shirt and tennis shoes.
All participants will receive a Jump Start
Sports Tee shirt.
Ages: 3-5 year olds from 5:30-6:30pm and
6-9 year olds from 6:30-7:30pm

This informative and interactive personal
safety program will dramatically increase
your child’s ability to stay safe by teaching
your child how to get help when in trouble,
how to identify “bad” people, how to say
“no” and mean it, how to respond to a
bully and much, much more. The class is
physical and involves running, jumping,
yelling, and everything kids love. Kids
discover that being safe involves having
an excellent plan. More information

Babysitting
Monday, 11/23 at 9am-4pm
This course is designed for young adults
who will be babysitting or providing child
and infant care. You will learn emergency
action steps, fire/water safety, infant care,
and also CPR, basic first aid and choking
management. The program will be taught
by a certified American & Safety Health
Institute (ASHI) instructor, Athena Haus.
Participants will receive certification cards
for CPR; Basic First Aid & Child and
Babysitting Safety (CABS) upon successful
completion of the program. Bring a sack
lunch. Register by 11/13.

just a few hours to relax. Camp will be
offered from 9am-4pm for full day, or opt
for a morning (9am-12:30pm) half day
or afternoon (12:30pm-4pm) half day!

Registration for all programs featured in this newsletter will begin on
August 8, 2015 and run through December 2015. Registration can be
done in person, over the phone, online as well as mail-in registration
forms. Payment is required at the time of registration for all programs
and camps. Please call (937)848-3535 if you have any questions or
need assistance signing up. If your plans change and you are unable
to come to a program you have signed up for please let us know so
that we can open up your spot to someone else or adjust our supplies
needed. We can’t wait for you to join us in the parks and see what the

Sackett-Wright Park
Our classic Halloween Festival with something for
everyone. Wagon rides to a pumpkin patch and then to
the decorating station will surely get your family in the
Halloween spirit. Charlie Cadabra will be amazing people
of all ages with his fantastic magic throughout the park,
so watch out or he might appear out of thin air! Spooky
tales will be waiting for you under the Winters Library
tent with Ms. Joanne. Games, face painting and silly
autumn themed contests will run throughout the event.
