Welcome to the 66th UFDC Annual Convention,
“A Dream Come True”, in Kansas City, Missouri. The largest city in Missouri,
Kansas City is known as the “Heartland of America” and its residents take pride in
their spirit, hospitality and famous barbecue. KC is the home to the UFDC
Headquarters and Museum. For UFDC members, the dream of a world-class
museum has been realized and the highlight of convention will be exclusive tours to
our newly renovated museum
Our host hotel, the Kansas City Marriott Downtown, is located in the heart of
Kansas City's Power & Light District. This vibrant eight-block neighborhood links
the Convention Center to the Sprint Center, with more than 45 unique and
captivating shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues easily accessed by
walking. Our hotel consists of two towers connected by a walkway. The Marriott
Tower houses our seminars, workshops, programs, meal events and exhibits. The
Muehlebach Tower including the historic Muehlebach Hotel houses the UFDC
Salesroom and Helper room.
Our convention journal, edited by Lynn Murray, is filled with interesting articles by
experts in the doll world and gorgeous photography which will include many of the
dolls from the UFDC museum collection. Our souvenir doll artist, Susan Fosnot,
has designed a very special doll that will delight you. Our special exhibits are
unique and inspiring. The UFDC salesroom will offer attendees the opportunity not
only to shop for new treasures, but to learn from our always accommodating dealers
who feature the best on offer in antique, vintage and modern dolls as well as dolls
by some of the most talented doll artists working today.
Ticketed meal events help support convention expenses and give attendees an
opportunity to enjoy fun-filled programs and take home a limited edition doll. This
year’s events include some new presenters as well as old favorites. Ticketed
seminars and workshops are available to continue educational pursuits. Free
programs are offered throughout the week by presenters who volunteer their
expertise on a variety of topics, providing an enjoyable learning experience. A
tentative list of Doll Dialogue topics, as well as Gatherings for special interest
groups are included in this booklet. These popular events are free and all are
encouraged to bring dolls to share.
This booklet is designed to give you a tentative overview of convention and is
subject to changes. Please take the time to read carefully and consider participating
in special activities that have been carefully planned to enhance your convention
experience. Please complete and mail in your registration form no later than May
15th, 2015.
I am looking forward to seeing you in Kansas City!

Convention Activities

the opportunity for your club delegates to vote on matters pertaining to the
functioning of UFDC. Annual reports are presented by officers of the
corporation. Elections of Board Members are held at this time. All UFDC
members are encouraged to attend. No other activities are scheduled to
conflict with the Annual Business Meeting. You must bring your UFDC
membership card to attend the meeting. Replacement cards will be available
from the Mini Office on Thursday and Friday.
“At Your Service” Open House
Wednesday evening plan to attend our annual “At Your Service” Open
House. Meet your Officers and Regional Directors while enjoying an ice
cream treat. Join us as we thank our many Chair people and volunteers who
worked to make this convention a reality. This year donations will be used
to maintain “Our House” - the UFDC Headquarters, Museum and Library.
Banquet
If you are unable to attend the Sunday Night Banquet, please take your
ticket to the UFDC office in Convention Offices in Lido on the Trianon
Level of the Muehlebach Tower, before noon Thursday to have your

released to a third-party or be shipped. There will be an extra charge to ship
your souvenir. (Please make sure a shipping form is filled out.)
Camera/Video Hour

Competitive Exhibit
The Competitive Exhibit categories are listed in the enclosed Competitive
Exhibit Booklet. Entry forms can also be found in this packet. One of the
most rewarding and educational experiences of convention is participating
in the Competitive Exhibit. By their willingness to share their dolls, UFDC
members provide each other with the greatest opportunity for doll study in
the world. Entries must be postmarked by June 10th.
Employment Booth & Convention Charms
One of the best ways to make new friends and learn about UFDC is to
volunteer, check in at the Employment Booth in the Mini Office at the
Muehlebach Coat Check on the main lobby level of the Muehlebach Tower
to find the right job for you.
A special charm or tie tack is designed each year as a token of appreciation
for Convention volunteers. Three hours of work qualifies you for one of
these mementos. There are a wide variety of volunteer jobs available. UFDC
appreciates the members who volunteer their time during a busy convention
week.
Convention Mementos
You will find convention mementos in the UFDC Supply Booth. The UFDC
Supply Booth also offers you the opportunity to purchase UFDC pins for
members and club officers, and educational and fundraising items. The
Supply Booth is only open during posted Salesroom hours. Be sure to
~7~
include a visit during the week and select special souvenirs for friends back
home. Sales from the UFDC Supply Booth help support our convention.
Dynamic Doll Dialogues
Attendees are encouraged to participate in round-table discussions focused
on a variety of doll topics on Thursday morning and Friday evening. Nine
participants can be accommodated at each table in 50-minute rotations. No
pre-registration is required and no fee is charged. A schedule of topics will
be posted at the entrance and in this booklet. Share your interests with others
or learn about something new.
Gatherings
Want to meet other collectors that share your interests? Look for gatherings
listed in the tentative schedule. UFDC provides space for special interest
and collector groups to gather during the week. Everyone is welcome and no
fee is charged.
Helper/Auction Items
These are donated items which “help” defray the costs of convention. The
Helper/Silent Auction items include antique, collectible and modern dolls
and doll-related items. They will be displayed in Truman A/B on the main
lobby level of the Muehlebach Tower. Stop by and purchase your tickets or
place a bid. Winners and successful bidders will be announced Sunday
morning.

Ticketed Theme Events
Every year a few artists and companies are selected to hold smaller events
featuring a limited edition item produced specifically for UFDC — most
with a value equal to or higher than the cost of the event ticket. Events are
brunches, luncheons, teas, dessert parties, or dinners and a program is
presented to entertain attendees. To apply for and purchase your ticket, use
the ‘Event Request Form’ included in this mailing. You may write one
check combining all your workshop, seminar and theme event selections, or
you may pay by credit card. Do not send separate checks for each event.
Please mail your check and form for theme events, workshops and seminars
together in one envelope to the Central Office postmarked on or before May
15th. Refund checks for filled events will be mailed to you after June 15th.
