For the week of 11th - 14th July 2016, the normal College timetable will be suspended for Years 7, 8 and 9. Students and staff will spend the week participating in a variety of activities, not usually available during the normal College day. The week is an opportunity to increase the breadth and depth of the education we offer and also to allow staff and students to work together in less formal situations. This booklet lists all the activities on offer this year, giving a brief description and approximate cost for each one, as well as indicating whether it is College based, off site and/or residential. The duration of each activity is, in most cases, between two and four days and students are asked to select one or more activity to cover all four days. As last year, we will not be issuing medical consent forms (previously the yellow and green SOE3’s). We will be using the information given on the Data Collection form. Please ensure you inform the College of any changes in circumstance or medical conditions throughout the year. Attendance We regard Activity Week as an important part of your son’s or daughter’s education and expect normal attendance. Reasons for non-attendance will be required as usual as the College has to provide details of all unauthorised absences to the Department for Education. Every absence must be supported by a parental explanation which will be authorised by the College if the reason is acceptable. Yours sincerely Mr G Allen Deputy Principal For general enquires regarding Activity Week please contact Mrs Stortenbeker Telephone 01395 255621 or email [email protected] 1 How to choose an Activity All activities are identified by a 3 letter code. The symbols explained: Students should choose 4 DIFFERENT activities and enter the relevant codes on the RETURN FORM at the back of this booklet. Detach and return the form to the Key Stage 3 Reception, from Tuesday 5th January, either before registration or at break times. Residential activity Student must be water confident. Activity description will state if swimming ability also needed All forms must be received no later than Friday 22nd January Confirmation of your son’s/daughter’s place on an activity will not be given until all lists of participants have been agreed. Paying for Activities All costs in the booklet are approximate and can change depending on the final number of students taking part in each activity. We ask you to pay the amount stated for the chosen activity, although contributions are voluntary. In the case of insufficient contributions, then the activity may have to be cancelled. We have ensured that there is a broad range of activities, both in terms of interest and cost, which will enable everyone to participate in a worthwhile activity. In the case of the more expensive activities it may be possible to pay in instalments. If you have any concerns regarding payment please contact Mr Allen. Student allocation letters, sent out in March, will give detail on how and when to pay for your chosen activities. Please note: Details of activities are correct at the time of going to print. We reserve the right to withdraw or change activities if circumstances change, or to withdraw students who persistently misbehave during the year. 2 Activity Week 20 16 at a Glance Places (14) (10) (30) (16) (16) (180) (30) (15) (48) (140) (12) (10) (12) (35) (14) (14) (15) (56) (30) (50) (12) (18) (20) (15) (15) (30) (128) (21) (120) (12) (40) 3 CODE AUS BCD BEA BM1 BM2 BIG BCA CLY CRZ CRW CTD CWR CRP CAR CYE CYD DSC EUR EXE EXW FAL FLM GLZ GOE GRT HOR IQW INC LAZ LTS LON TITLE Mon/Tues Australian Xmas Baby Care Days Beach Art Beck’s Homemade Part 1 Beck’s Homemade Part 2 Big 4 (The) Bushcraft Adventures Clay Sculpture Crealy & Paignton Zoo Crealy & Woodlands Creative Tie & Dye Creative Writing Cricket Plus Croeso i Cardiff Cycling - East Devon Cycling - Tour of East Devon Discover Scuba Diving Eurodisney Exe Wakeboarding Exe Watersports Falconry Filming Glitz & Glam Go East Great ECC Bake Off Horse Riding Ice Skating & Quaywest Introduction to Caving Lazer Learn to Ski London Trip Wed/Thurs All Week COST £69 £20 FREE £15 £19 £70 £79 £8 £33 £36 £5 £15 £130 £140 FREE £20 £300 £392 £125 £120 £49 £10 £26 £26 £15 £92 £33 £92 £40 £175 £320 Places (8) (20) (25) (20) (30) (8) (40) (100) (60) (12) (12) (11) (16) (14) (24) (8) CODE MBM MTA PAP PHO POL SAI SCI SPX SUM SFB SFG TSS TRE UPC WET XFI TITLE Mon/Tues Mountain Biking Mash Up Music Therapy in Action Papercrafts Photography Poland - Krakow & Auschwitz Sailing Science Club Sports Mix Summer Sports Surfing for Boys Surfing for Girls Tall Ship Sailing Total Recording Experience Upcycle Your Clothes Wet and Wild - Haven Banks Xtreme Fishing Wed/Thurs All Week COST £12 FREE £10 £5 £490 £200 FREE FREE FREE £138 £101 £300 FREE £8 £67 £70 The ‘places’ column on the far right lets you know how many student spaces there are available on each activity.
