Wecontinuetomonitorourguests'commentsandcontemplatewaystoimprovetheirexperience
atOceanLakes.Manyguestshaveheraldedthepolicymodificationsthatwehaveimplemented
duringthelastfewyearsandwehaveseenguestbehavior,andthusguestexperiences,improve.We
appreciateandvalueeveryone'sfeedback.Consistently,wearereceivingcomplaintsaboutthree
issueswherethefewimpactthemany.
So,beginningonJanuary1,2015wewillalterthewayweaddresstheseissuesbyrevisingour
currentpoliciesandtheconsequencesofdisregardingthesepolicies.Mostofourguestswillnotbe
worriedaboutthefollowingchangesbecausetheyalreadyabidebyourpolicies.
WewanttoemphasizethatQUIETHOURSare11PMto7AM.
Cruisingongolfcarsduringquiethourswillnotbeallowedandviolatorscouldbesubjecttoa
$100fine.Understandthatwearenotouttoharassguestsutilizingnecessaryfacilities,suchasthe
bathhousesorSoapySuds,etc.Wearetargetingguests"cruising"aroundthecampground,generally
makingnoiseorlookingfortrouble(coolers,bikes,alcohol,unlockedvehicles,etc.).Loudmusic,
language,noisewillnotbetolerated.Wehavereceivednumerouscomplaintsaboutgolfcarsblaring
loud,sometimeslewd,music.Someofourguestsenjoythe"volumecontrolgame"forcedonour
Securityteammates,however,wehaveallheardenough.Anyguestplayingmusictooloudforthe
restofusmaybesubjecttoa$100fine.
Weunderstandthatourguestsareonvacationandwanttorelaxwithfamilyandfriendsandenjoy
themselves.Thatmayincludeanadultbeverageandthatispermittedattheirsite.However,open
containersofalcoholarenotpermittedonvehicles(thatincludesgolfcars)foritisagainstSouth
Carolinastatelaw.Itistrue,weareprivateproperty,andwechoosetoupholdthestatelaws.Any
guestcaughtwithanopencontainermaybesubjecttoa$100fine.
Onceagain,weunderstandsomeguestswillnotagreewithourpolicies,buttheymostlikelydonot
shareourperspective,theliability,andthelackofrespectourteam(andmanyguests)have
witnessed.OurultimateobjectiveistomakeOceanLakesthemostsafeandenjoyablefamilyorientedvacationdestinationthatwecanbe.

PetsareoneofthebigreasonsthatpeoplecampandweconsiderthempartofthefamilyatOcean
Lakes.Wetrytokeepourpoliciessimpleandonlymodifythemwhennecessary.Unfortunately,a
modificationisnowanecessitytoaddressoneofourguests’#1complaints.
Therearealotofgoodpetparentsouttherewhodotherightthing,andweappreciateit!Butit’s
timetoalterourtacticstogettheattentionofthosewhorefusetocleanupaftertheirpet.Wehave
debatedhowtodothisforyears,andourrecentexperiencehasproventhatsomepeoplewillnot
complyunlessthereisaliteralcostassociatedwithignoringthepoliciesandrequeststobecourteous
toothers.So,beginningonJanuary1,2014wewillbegintoenforcea$100fineforguestswhodonot
cleanupaftertheirpets.
RestassuredthatthisisnotasourceofrevenueforOceanLakes.Everypennywillbedonatedtoour
favoriteanimalcharity.Ourteamreliesonlocalpetcarecharitiestohelptakecareofinjuredanimals
foundinourpark,suchasswansandducks.
TherewillbenoDNAtestingnecessary.Wehaveplentyofteammatesandundercovereyewitnesses
whoarewillingtohelpreducepetpollutionbyreportingguestswhorefuseto“scoopthepoop.”In
season,wehavenearly500teammates,manynotonlyworkhere,butliveandplayhere,too,making
themvaluableeyewitnesses.Evenintheoff-season,therearenearly170teammates.
Petwasteismorethangross-itisdetrimentaltoourenvironmentandhumans.Petpollutionis
carriedbystormwaterrunoffthatcontributestohighbacterialevelsinourwaterwaysandbeaches
afteritrains.OceanLakes’iCareProgram,establishedin2009,focusesoneducatingourguestsabout
issuesthatimpacttheenvironmentinourareaandsuggestsactiontoaddresstheseissues.Aplastic
shoppingbagworksfineforcollectingpetwaste.Also,thereare28iCare“DoggieDooStations”
locatedthroughoutthecampground(theyaremarkedonourmaps).Eachstationprovides
biodegradablebagsforgueststousetocleanupaftertheirpet.Thesebagsamounttoquitean
investmentforOceanLakes,sopleasetakeonlywhatyouneedsothereisenoughforothers(we
aren’tsurewhysometakeanentirerollastheyaren’tsogoodforpackinglunches).
