funds for a Spray Pad at the Sandra Schmirler Leisure Center on Prince of
Wales and Woodhams, is now a reality.
The project has been broken down into two phases. Phase I is for a fully functioning spray pad. This was made possible by funding of $235,000 from AECA
and our donors. The spray pad was dug, plumbed and concrete poured last fall.
This spring the contractor, Acupulco Pool Ltd. will return to complete the water
hookup and landscaping. The Phase I water features are functional but pretty
basic. With the help of the East Zone Board we received funding to add three
Phase II fixtures ahead of time so that they will be installed for use this summer.
Phase II of the project involves adding more spray components to the pad. The
options available include a misting entry sign, castle slide, pine tree with tumbling buckets, barrel pool and falls, spinning toadstool, serpent cannon, treasure chest, and city wall cannon. These fixtures are interactive and will greatly
increase the “Fun Factor” at the spray pad. The price tag on these features is
$150,000 of which $50,000 has been funded. The spray pad committee will have a

Don't forget to apply for the AECA $1000 Post-Secondary Scholarship - (Deadline is June 6, 2015)
The AECA is again sponsoring one (1) $1000.00 post-secondary scholarship for the year 2014-2015. This scholarship
highlights the valuable contribution young people provide through their volunteer community involvement. It is intended
to assist the recipient financially to achieve their post-secondary educational goals. The AECA will pay the approved
amount to the successful candidate upon receipt of proof that he/she has enrolled in a post-secondary institute in the year
following graduation from high school.
Scholarship criteria includes:
1. A letter of introduction including career and academic objectives as well as
description of other interests or involvements, other than volunteer work.
2. History of volunteer involvement in detail.
- This section is very important and should include duties and length of service for each volunteer activity. See table below.
- Because we are a community association, we put greater emphasis on the volunteer (unpaid) community service activities as opposed to those that are undertaken to fulfill obligations to an organization such as school, church, sports etc.
3. Resident in the area served by the AECA.
4. Membership in the AECA in the year in which your application is made.
5. A commitment letter to attend a post-secondary institution in the year following highschool graduation is required.
6. Achievement of an average of at least 65% in your Grade 12 year (as evidenced in midterm and/or final Grade 12
marks.) A transcript is required.
7. Letter of references supporting your application.
8. Any other information you wish to supply that will attest to your qualifications regarding the above criteria.
Send your application to: Attention: Yashu Bither, - 3860 Buckingham Drive East, - Regina, SK, S4V 3A1
Include your name, address, postal code, telephone number and your AECA membership number.
